What's racist about his comment? It may be accurate or inaccurate; to tell you the truth I've never paid attention to Mexicans and their cars. But how is the comment racist?
It's racist in that it seems to be "a belief or doctrine that inherent differences among the various human races determine cultural or individual achievement, usually involving the idea that one's own race or color is superior." I don't know what Pat's race is, but if he's not Mexican and just being ironic, I'd say it was pretty racist. Really, are you a closet racist? "No, I just tell it like is." I imagine that's how Pat would respond to such a question. The real idea behind Pat's comment is that Mexicans are lazy. You really don't see that as racist?
is "mexican" meant racially or culturally.
perhaps pat is a "culturalist" rather than a "racist".
also,
i would posit that from what little i've seen of pat's thoughts etc that he would not be of the belief that his race or demographic is superior to any other, but that _he_ himself is superior to any other personage, singular or of a group.
as such, is one who feels singularly and individually superior to each and every single other entity a racist or simply an extreme egotist?
it would seem to me that racism is a crutch used to prop up one self's poor individual self concept on the notion that while individually the person may not be worth shit but that as a member of a superior race that they therefor are superior.
pat does not, to the extent that i have seen, seem to have any problems with a poor self-concept.
on the other hand, his self-righteousness may very well stem from a belief in his own racial superiority.
to wander further from pat, however:
as i understand it, racism is "bad". ie, to make a determination as to an individual based upon raciallity.
is "culturalism" bad, then?
to make the statement that "members of the mexican race take too long to get out of cars" is intrinsically racist since the maker of the statement is assuming that the consequences of the individual stem from raciallity.
to make the statement that "members of the mexican culture take too long to get out of cars" is not racist, though, it is culturist.
it is a mistake to consider that race is determing factor in individuals.
is it a mistake to consider that culture is a determining factor in individuals?
to wander back to pat:
a joke:
pat is such an asshole.
how much of an asshole is pat?
pat's such an asshole that he shoots someone, runs away, hides, and then calls into a radio show to make a broad statement about a large collection of demographically aligned people because he was, possibly, inconvenienced by one member of said group while trying to get away from the crime scene.
