I think it's about time I learnt how to make a meal, and if there's anyone I could turn to, it's you guys. Can you recommend any simple, easy, 'proper' meals that I could make for a family of six? I want it to be something fairly interesting but not too vegetabley, as I have very fussy brothers.

I can already make pizzas!

How about spaghetti of some description?  Add a green salad and garlilc bread and you have a nice meal than can be pretty simple to fix yet is open to infinite variations.

Pasta is a good choice. I've had really good luck with chicken in marinade, too; usually some marinading will offset the dryness problem with chicken, and this is typically fall-off-a-log easy to cook ("Mix up marinade. Put cut-up chicken in it for a while. Bake the chicken until it's done. Serve with some carbohydrate or another").

Spaghetti is good. Lasagna is not hard either once you get all the stuff, it's mostly assembly.

Are you looking for simple but really impressive looking or just simple?

How about this very simple recipe for Shrimpy Linguine:

1 large juicy tomato
1 clove of garlic
1/2 a bag of pre-cooked, ready to eat frozen shrimp (you can use the whole bag if you want to be extra shrimpy)
Linguine noodles (the amount when dry that fits in between your index finger and your thumb when you touch the two finger tip to finger tip)
1 tablespoon of Extra Virgin Olive oil  (get the good stuff - it tastes better)
Basil
Oregano
Black Pepper
Parmesan cheese
Green onion

Unthaw and drain the shrimp (most bags will have instructions, but running them under cold water for 15-20 min in a strainer of some sort should do the trick).  Mince garlic, Dice tomato.  Put noodles in a large pot, heat on high, stir while boiling - if you use a wooden spoon to stir, you will know when the noodles are cooked because they will sort of stick to the spoon.  While the noodles cook, stir occasionally while doing the following: Heat the olive oil in a skillet on medium heat, add garlic, stir around until the smell of it hits your nose, add the tomato, stir, add in Basil, Oregano and Black Pepper, and maybe a dash of salt if you like - this is all to your own taste, so ad as much or as little as you like.  Cook until tomato starts to soften (but not dissolved) - about 5 minutes, add your drained and unthawed shrimp, continue to stir and cook until fully heated through.  Take pasta off head, drain, and add to the shrimp, stir.  Evenly divide on to two plates, top with Parmesan cheese and bits of green onion.  Enjoy. (serves two)

Once you get the hang of this one, you can add veggies to suit your taste - I've made it with added green peppers and sweet onions - just add them in at the same time as the tomatoes.  It's very simple, but quite tasty especially now, when tomatoes are getting good.
