jesus christ I am the only person reading Achewood at 6 am CST

Not only is Pat a tool, he is an esoteric tool.  I am kind of glad they used his esoteric tool for a lightning rod.

PS: I know who the Jains were (are? any Jains out there?), but what in the name of Zoroaster is a "sky-clad Jain"? The phrase almost makes me want to found a sect.

PPS: Has the library ever called you to return a book by phone? What was the book and why could you not be bothered to recheck it out?

PPPS: Achewood has taken away my ability to use contractions.

Strip.

My latest library débacle was over a book on Jung that was lost in my locker for most of a semester.  I got angry slips of paper from the school once a week on the desk in my first period class.

It is for the best.  Apostrophes are for the weak.

Oh....  and I liked the strip, too.

I love how Onstad is getting back into the original characters a little more.

The nostalgia is almost heart-warming.  Almost.

If this strip is implying that Pat is dead, then we should totally have a few strips of him in heaven. I want to see what Pat-Heaven looks like.

If all is right with the world, then Pat would be in Hell - not heaven.

This is true, but not as potentially funny, IMHO. We already pretty much know what Pat hell looks like ('cause he seems to live in it everyday), but Pat paradise? The possibilities are endless. Would there be a Molly of some sort for Pat?

Of course, this is all assuming that Pat is going to be dead, and not just passed out with a crotchload of third degree burns...

I'm on board with bluebird, it's been cool to have this storyline with characters we haven't seen for a while.

Pat probably is just out on the crapper floor, but a Pat version of heaven is awesome to think about.  I bet it would be very orderly, and Pat would always be right and everyone would agree with him and just act PROPER.  No one would throw sammiches at him and would never, never discuss boning.

Damn, Pat heaven and the Moral Majority version sound kinda similiar...

Raise your hand if you, too, cringed at that phrase.

Well done.

Sky-clad means Nekkid, but I think the Jain connection is an Onstad original.

I doubt he's dead but I thinking maybe Pat's heaven is other people's hell. Like when Disco Stu had a vision of heaven and Sinatra was there because an eternity of disco was his hell.

I'm also thinking Pat's Subway site would get the most hits of any other site, the message board would be totally civil, and everybody would always have exact change.

Sky-clad means Nekkid, but I think the Jain connection is an Onstad original.

"Divisions among Jains
There are two groups of Jains:

The Digambaras (literally "sky clad" or naked): Their monks carry asceticism to the point of rejecting even clothing (even when they appear in public).

The Shvetambaras (literally "white clad"): their monks wear simple white robes. The laity are permitted to wear clothes of any color. "
from http://www.religioustolerance.org

From my study of eastern reliqions at university I know that the most extreme form of (sky clad) Digambaras Jains go so far in avoiding taking life that they wear masks over their mouths to avoid inhaling and accidentaly taking the lives of small insects and use brooms to gently sweep the ground in front of them to avoid stepping on insects.  A Fundamental Jainists' ultimate desire is to avoid taking any life including plants and bacterial life.  This includes carfully straining water and eventual starvation.  This, again is a very extreme form of Jainism, where it is honorable to fast oneself to death and a symbol of ultimate non-violence and non-clinging to the material word aka total asceticism.  As far as I understand it only the most extreme Jain Monks go this far.

Because this is the least funny post ever I now include the word "poo" just for fun.

Pat's Heaven would be a place where clothes from the "Unique Guy" catalogue would be both respected and mandatory. This means that it's probably Ray's Hell.

I knew a mechanical engineer who was very much alive and a Jain.  He was not a monk - he wore ordinary business attire and was a nice Indian man whose jokes weren't very good but whose poetry was nice enough, and who taught a math class on the side.
