Holy shit. Women still aren't allowed to drive there, and they get beaten in the streets by the religious police if they're not completely covered up, but a woman finally graduated from a Saudi flight school, becoming Saudi Arabia's first female pilot.

And of course, as a Saudi woman living in the conservative religious state, Hanadi Hindi will be forbidden from driving to work in her new job.

Fun fact: I read in the 'paper last year that Saudi Arabia has the highest death rate per owned car/road/something in the world. Women drivers, whip that baby out on any dude who dares doubt your ability to steer large amounts of metal and flammable material at high speeds.

that is terrifying, considering how horrible the kill rate is in some places.

my grandparents/uncle/aunt were afraid to drive for the entire time they lived in Venezuela. They saw accidents with dead bodies on an almost-daily basis.

You have to remember it's Saudi Arabia where the majority of drivers seem to be young (obviously male) and rich. They drag race Ferraris and Mercs and fuck knows what else at night, as well as having all their crazy high powered desert vehicles. Considering how unpoliced it all appears to be, I'm none to surprised by the statistic.
