Hey all, the SO and I are looking to plan a trip to somewhere warm this winter and are seeking suggestions to all inclusives.  I've had enough of the "you take care of yourself" travel lately, hence the cop-out all-inclusive.  We're thinking either Cuba or the Caribbean, maybe Mexico.  Anyone been to any they recommend?

Isn't Cuba in the Caribbean?

I'm just sayin'.

Well you know my opinion... you already went to Indonesia, may as well complete the trip.

is all inclusive the kind of thing where they give you a wristband that allows unlimited drinks at the bar and trips to the buffet? If so I want to come.

Yeah, the places we've been looking at usually have two a la carte restuarants, a buffet, a few bars - often a swim-up bar, a couple of pools, beachfront local, free snorkeling, windsurfing, etc.  It's all included - all the booze, lobster and sun you can get over one week.

Aug - why... is there something wrong with the Caribbean?  As far as I can tell the Caribbean is awsome.  I only know one guy from the Caribbean.  But he presents it as awesome.  Lots of folks I know have had awesome times in Cuba.  All sitting on the sand by the ocean in February.  All pictures of being kissed by a Dolphin.  All coming back with a tan and those terrible braids.  I want to do all that... except the terrible braids.

I stayed at an all-inclusive resort in the Dominican Republic 5 or 6 years ago. I'm pretty sure this was the one: http://www.holidayhotels.com/hotel.php?HID=20040610130627317814

This included meals, booze, snorkeling, private beach. It was a great experience, especially being in the hot sun drinking Mai Tais while everyone back home was shivering in the cold (I went in Jan.). Few notes:

* Swim-up bars are 10 kinds of awesome.
* So are topless beaches
* There was no night-life where I was. Everything shut down at around 10pm, and we were told that if we left the resort we would probably be mugged and/or beaten. There was one really crappy "disco" on-site which played 5 year old one-hit-wonders and was the one place where the drinks were not free.
* The sun sets early in the winter there (maybe all year? I really don't know). That means if you want to swim and sunbathe you really need to get up before noon.
* When the resort is all-inclusive, there really isn't any good reason to stop drinking
* Where we were, breakfast and lunch were all-you-can-eat. Dinner was based on tickets I think? You could eat once at most of the restaurants there.

All I can think of right now. It was a great experience and the all-inclusive aspect of it took away a good deal of the thinking aspect. One price and you know you are not going to spend much more than that (except on trinkets for friends and $2 liters of local rum and maybe a pipe in the shape of a naked lady). Good luck and have fun!

If you're thinking about the Caribbean I'd say take a look at the all inclusives  on St. Thomas. Full service airport and about 90 jillion resorts to choose from. Lots of options also if you want to go to town or local islands (Anguilla, for example) via short ferry. After Alaska we'll be going back.

No, I was just being pedantic.  You said Cuba or the Caribbean, and like a dick, I meant to slyly point out that Cuba is the Caribbean.

Sorry.

If it were me, I'd go to Arizona.  I like the desert.

I don't think I have ever seen a desert. I didn't realize this until just now.

I've had friends say the all-inclusives in Cancun are good. In the airline industry, they are the Holy Grail of travel, mainly because we like the drinkin'.

Ah yes, that should have read "elsewhere in the Carribean."

I just realized there's only a select few on the board who can legally visit Cuba...  Which is actually why the SO is so into going there.  He's very much about avoiding the 'Merican tourists.  It's his way.  He wont even travel to the states.
