Unshelved (I work for the library, so I'm faced with these every day. Someone always has one hanging on his or her cubicle. I have this thing I do where I take them down.)

Irregular Webcomic

Yehuda Moon (Thank you Fuck you, Smick.)

Molotov Cocktail (Terrible art and comic sans dialogue.)

User Friendly

And...

Webcomics which everyone seems crazy about which I find to be so-so at best:

XKCD

Penny Arcade (I'll concede that it's a little funny occasionally, but the art is just ridiculously annoying. It belongs on greeting cards for children or something.)

Dinosaur Comics (Often funny, but I will never consider it an actual comic for obvious reasons. It's not a funny comic. It's a funny....something else.)

This is really just the tip of the iceberg. Seriously, I hate almost all of them.

I like Dinosaur Comics (I just bought another t-shirt today, actually) but I can see how some would question if it's really a comic. I find the comparison to a sonnet to be apt.

Hate is a strong word, man! That Molotov Cocktail is the only one that I could see anyone hating, and even then you'd need to expend actual mental energy on something that looks hosted by Comic Genesis.

Unshelved is basically Library Dilbert, but I just checked the most recent few and found this insane strip, so.

I can't go down this road with you, rowboat. I'm not ready yet.

See the thing about webcomics is that if you hate them, you don't have to read them.

I mean unless you regularly find yourself strapped into some sort of Ludovicoesque setup and forced to read the archives of User Friendly I don't see what the point of making a list is.

Also taking down stuff from other people's cubicles is kind of a dick move, no matter how much it offends your sense of humour.

I just went "Holy shit!  That's still around?!"  I think it is high hilarity that I coudn't find a "previous comic" link, that is standard to all web comics.   Then, when I figured out how to go to yesterday's comic, the navigation layout flipped me off, and vanished.

Oh, Linux geeks.   "What's so frakkin' difficult about 'nohup screen -rdU $1 > &' anyway?" indeed.

My disgust at PBF is well documented elsewhere for me to reiterate it here, I think. Still: Ugh.

Yeah. A sonnet. I'll think about it that way. I know it's a good read. I just have to get past the whole "no comic art" hurdle.

Aw, what's so awful about Unshelved?
I'll let Chump Change answer that one for you:
Unshelved is basically Library Dilbert

See the thing about webcomics is that if you hate them, you don't have to read them.
Yes, but it's always more interesting to discuss shit that you hate, no? I mean, you can jaw about shit you love all day and that's fine, but what really makes you feel better in the end? I'll take hate's great release over love's fleeting warm fuzziness (in regards to discussing webcomics, I mean - as far as actual things that really exist go, I'll take fuzzy, lovey shit everytime. But these ain't real things that actually exist. These are comics. On the internet. Most of which are just screaming out to be hated).

Also taking down stuff from other people's cubicles is kind of a dick move, no matter how much it offends your sense of humour.
That was a joke. I actually just kind of spit on them a little bit and continue on my way.

My disgust at PBF is well documented elsewhere for me to reiterate it here, I think. Still: Ugh.
What is this disgust based on? Just curious. For all I know you're kidding. Or maybe it offends or depresses you. I think it's second only to Achewood in Complete Non-Suckitude.

Aaaaaand I've already lost two cans since starting this thread. So rap battles get you cans (even ones in which you get your ever-lovin' ass handed to you) and dissing webcomics will get them stripped from you. Noted.

I love it when people pay attention to the unspoken rules.

It makes me feel all warm in my tummy.

Rowboat: Well, I gave you a can for thoroughness (also for spitting on your enemies. Flamboyant villainy is back on the menu, bitches).

Regarding PBF: Its premises are lazy, its resolutions are artificial (trying to be "mean" just for the sake of being "mean"). Some punchlines can't punch their way out of a paper bag. The art is consistently great, and there's the occasional gem, but they're very opaque gems, and can only be called gems when compared to the rest of the mediocre output. Except this one which is pretty fuck*ng great.

Most of your links are to random PBF strips. Are you assuming that random strips will demonstrate your specific points or was that accidental?

Regarding PBF....
Well, man, I think we just expect different things from it. I think that's the divide, and that's OK. Maybe if I analyzed it to the same degree the cracks would start to appear to me, too. But as it is, my attraction to PBF is very visceral and I don't think there's a single one that I don't at least crack a smile to. Most of them just completely mesmerize me.
