This is a thread to talk about ideas for Halloween costumes and seek advice on how to create them. Later, after Halloween, we can post pictures! Yay!

I have not dressed up for a few years because there hasn't been a reason to, but this year we got invited to a grown-up Halloween costume party so I need one. The party is '80's/90's themed but I don't think the costumes need to be. I still want to go as Dr. Sam Beckett (dress as yourself and pretend not to know anyone), but everybody tells me that's too obscure.

I think I'm going to go as Liz Lemon because she is basically me with dark hair and a better career. Pedro is trying to decide which male character from 30 Rock to go as; I think he could do a bitchin' sexy Donaghy; he would be hilarious as Kenneth; and Frank would be fun to put together. (Trucker Hat Slogan: "TOTALLY FICTIONAL.")

My five-year-old decided he wants to be Elmo Dressed As A Ghost, which I find hilarious, so I'm totally making it happen. Two year old is going to be Abby Cadabby (her costume from last year still fits) dressed as a pumpkin, just to stay on-theme.

What are you all doing for International Grownups Playing Dress-up night?

I'm going as Satan Is My Motor. Basically I'm getting and off-the-shelf devil costume and wearing a red t-shirt with a picture of a motor on it.

Sadly, I'm going as a petroleum engineer again.

Oh no! It is opposite of treat!

I'm thinking of either Frank or Kenneth from 30 Rock. Kenneth would end up being more of a performance thing, but would save me the cost of getting a hat from the flea market.

I am dressing at least one pug up in a torn bloodstained shirt and going on the Zombie Walk the weekend before Halloween.

Otherwise, probably staying home giving out candy. I don't understand a single costume idea here so far except Nabu's and Elmo, so if the others are representative, it's just as well I am not going to a party, it would obviously be a frustrating experience.

My brother is getting married on Halloween this year.  He and his fiance always have ragers on that day since its their favourite holiday - often with pictures not suitable for Facebook.  My family is going Old West, with the exception of my daughter who is dead set on being a witch.  I'm going to be a riverboat gambler.  I might go for spirit-gum muttonchops. Not enough time to grow them out naturally.

You should watch 30 Rock. It is quite possibly the best-written show on television right now. I have recently (this week?) gotten hooked on it and now Pedro is giving me a hard time because I neglected (refused?) to watch it for the first 4 years it was on.

The youngest wants to be Buzz Lightyear so I'm going to take him trick or treating as Woody. I already own what I need for this, so it feels like cheating. I may treat myself and by some big ass rowel spurs instead of wearing my plain old sticking posts.

Thank jeebus he hasn't asked for me to bring Bullseye along with. I'd have to go with Spouses hoss for that and I'm not sure how the neighbors would dig the inevitable "deposits".

"But Ray, Cowboys!"

Cowboys are underated on Halloween.

That is more or less a representation, wombles.

He is the extremely-self-aware semi-competent lead henchman of a butterfly-themed supervillain.

He is more or less rad in a bag.

Classic. My girlfriend is making it for me and she says that she'll have more fun making the classic version so... ain't gonna put demands on a favour, y'know.
