I remain convinced that this is still a horrible idea.

I am so ambivalent on the subject that I wrote a parody of "Lydia the Tattooed Lady" about Lybia.
This is what I do with my time now, apparently.

Yeah bro, mass murders by a government on its own people are totally not worth paying attention to. I mean, everything worked out with Hitler, right? We should totally make jokes about the guy.

The idea of getting Qaddafy outta there is fine. I am all for that idea.
But holy shit, there are all kinds of ways the fall-out could end up worse instead of better for Libyans and for us and for everybody.
Not to mention that for all our talk about America not being at war against Islam in general, man, it would sure like a move toward being at war with Islam in general.
Just because something awful is going on doesn't mean we can't feel oogy about the way that fixing it might end up making thing worse in the long run.
Just look at... everything in the world since World War One. Basically everything that has happened since the end of World War One. Look at... that stuff.

You are ideologically schizophrenic.

As a side note, I think maybe AC doesn't know the proper definition of the word ambivalent. Ambivalent =/= disinterested, although that's a very common misinterpretation of the word. Being ambivalent, in the proper definition of the word, is about being deeply conflicted about something, which is very, very different from thinking something is "not worth paying attention to."

Yes, I definitely meant ambivalent in the classic deeply-conflicted sense.
I both despise what's going on over there right now with a peoples' revolution being brutally crushed and I am also frightened with the track record of Western intervention anywhere other than other parts of The West, what with how it almost always ends up even worse than before except with a bunch of people dead along the way.
I take the idea of being ideologically schizoid as a compliment. That means that I'm not so married to ideology that I can't consider what's humane to the greatest number of people in the long-view of history.
What is ultimately humane is more important than sticking to a defined ideology as though it is a liferaft upon the deep murderous sea that is reality.

I've come around to a position where I'd like Uncle Sam to look at the other characters in the world cast and say "Fuck it, you figure out what to do and get back to me. I'll pitch in on the back end once you plan it out."
I'm not saying don't help. But I am totally cool with letting people spill blood to determine their own destiny with influence limited to humanitarian-style aid without strings.
