I went to a party.  What did you do?

Now I am back working on a big project.  I think maybe I'm gonna go take a break.  See if I can find something cooked with charcoal.

Pedro's birthday almost always falls on Labor Day weekend -- he was born on Labor Day Monday back in '79 -- so we celebrated with his family and a big ol' vat of pulled pork barbecue last night. Today we went to a lake and swam in our clothes.

We told the kids it was a "surprise adventure," so we didn't want to put on their swimsuits and give them a hint about what was going to happen. Also, we weren't 100% sure that swimming was allowed at this particular lake, but fortunately it turns out there's a small area designated for swimming that was only chest-deep on my 6-year old and it was very nice. Tomorrow, we're going to the local children's museum for their Labor Day event. "From ice cream and ice castles to solar jewelry and beach ball volleyball, join us for a Summer Fun finale! We will be wrapping up the season with the best of our summer games and activities." So, yeah...full weekend, packed with fun and games.

Tuesday: Back to the grind.

Cancelled the annual paella event due to circumstances, but spent the day today on Lake Allatoona in a couple-friends' boat and at a fire ring, had a great time. Working tomorrow to cover some backlog Sad

Getting fucked up right now. My liver's had a long enough break, so this labor day it'll work. I won't.

I was just going out with the littlest boy to see a kid movie. Pulled up at a major intersection and stopped at the crosswalk, waiting for the light to change. Heard a big CRASH and looked to my left and saw a Mitsubishi SUV on its side sliding at me roof first. It stopped about 8' away and I could see mom & dad struglling up front and hear children screaming. I popped out and helped a skinny dude drop  in the side window that'd been blown out and he handed me a bloddied up three year old little girl. I passed her off to a latina lady and we saw the other girl had one of her legs out the window and pinned under the car. We tipped the car enough for the guy inside to get her leg in and then she was handed out too. Then we tipped the car up on all four wheels again and got dad out, a couple of other guys had already helped mom get out the topside window. By then the police and fire guys were pulling in and everyone was out and readied for their attention so I took.

I hope it doesn't bug my guy too much. I had to leave him in the car with the A/C running while I helped out. He had a lot of questions. We missed our movie because of the extra time and an unexpected crowd. Prolly for the best, I just want to stay in away from the crazies right now.

When I got home I had blood all over my arms so I had to tell the oldest boy what was up while I washed it off. Probably a good thing I didn't walk into the movie theater like that, I didn't notice the blood until I got home.

The oldest boy said I did hero stuff. Maybe I did, but I don't want to do hero stuff. I'd have rather seen a stupid zoo movie.

Time to drink a few. (little girl screams bother me)

Save that for Ash's post.

Going to a bar with the dude was actually great, because it made me realize he is a kind of annoying but mostly nice person, instead of a horrible monster who will somehow steal my girlfriend or beat me up.

Ugh, Ash, that kind of stuff is what should happen in the movie, not before it.

Yikes Ash, that sounds pretty traumatic.  I hope the family is going to be okay and that your little guy will be too.  Likewise, I hope you can feel assured that you did the best you could in bad circumstances.

As for me I had a big pasta lunch with the hubby, then spent the rest of the afternoon trying to not nap.  Going back to work tomorrow after a week off, which is... ugh.

They're all gonna make it. One little girl will prolly need a little leg work, but I didn't see anything that would cause her to lose it. I always figured you could judge yourself by how you done did when the axe falls and anything else is fluff and bullshit. You wanna know what has me keeping faith with hope and humanity, it was the eight or nine other dudes and ladies who got right out there and did what needed to be done. People suck, but not damn near all of them no how.

But yeah, coming home and washing little girl blood off you ain't no holiday picnic. I'm drinking beer and teaching the youngest to cast his giraffe pole is the pool so we can go to the dam next week. That makes me feel alrighty.
