Puzzling:
Quote from: Mr Bear
You gonna scare the giraffe even more than the ball with all that yellin’.
Is Cornelius mocking Ray's speech pattern? Because obviously it's out of character for him. Also, the local neighborhood parks around here frequently explicitly state on signs that golf is forbidden (along with motorized vehicles, model rockets, and R/C toys). Theories on the ban I've heard are safety - as Beef implies - and groundskeeping: practicing chip shots will raise quite a few divots.

I thought that was out of character for Cornelius as well, but then I realised it was supposed to be Beef talking:
Quote
Cornelius eyed them with a barely perceptible measure of displeasure.
Roast Beef
sensed immediately that Ray’s ball had disturbed the water, sending any already-skittish aquatic life darting beneath distant logs and shadowy outcroppings. “Sssh,” he hissed at Ray. “You gonna scare the fi
sh even more than the ball with all that yellin’.”

Is Onstad writing like Nice Pete now?
Is he trying to tell us something about what he has been doing with his time?

Another blog post! From Teodor. It's mostly about a breast, and drinking.

Well, this situation is certainly more promising than the last Teodore found himself in..

Is Teódor a douchey-douche man in the end? He doesn't come off as one in the strips, but his blogs entries, man... Something about them makes me want to unstitch his face.

So sinister.
Teódor is a little bit douchey, I reckon. He's kind of a more mild Pat. Teódor is a spring water and balsamic vinegar douche, and Pat is a Clorox douche.

Teodore has always been a bit of a punk tear-down artist on his own. Mostly though, that is because he is a born natural No. 2 man. In this latest blog post, look how easily he slips into pack with Cornelius, even imagining them doing a little thing together a time or two.
I think this conception of Teodore goes
all the way back to the well
.

man, something about Onstad mentioned Vampire Weekend in this blog post and also in that interview bums me out a little bit.
Even though it definitely makes sense for Teodor, since he is a 30-something (40-something?) desperately trying to be cool and interesting and hip.

Chris Onstad is also a 30 something, like Teódor. I believe there is previous author's confirmation that Teódor is written the closest to auto-biographical.
Since I am also a 30 something, this obviously explains why we all three of us like Vampire Weekend.

I was afraid that that post would come across that way, but sometimes trying to explain makes it worse.
I like Vampire Weekend. They are good. Or at least, the album I have heard is good. He is right about what they sound like. I like that sound.
But something about Onstad mentioning a band that I was really into in 2008 makes him sound like a dad. "I heard this really cool band on the internet, Vampire Weekend." He has always had a way of placing cultural references PERFECTLY, especially with music, and this is no different. Teodor is kind of an aging wannabe, and him wondering if this lady has heard the new VW is perfect. Also, I am not sure what counts as the "new" Vampire Weekend single.
Before anyone misunderstands or there is a miscommunication, there is nothing wrong with not following current music, or being older than me, or mentioning a band that you like even if they are not a new band. It is only in the context of Onstad/Teodor that this is funny to me.
I also have a thing about VW, because they do a cover of Everywhere by Fleetwood Mac. When I realized they did a cover of that song, I could basically hear it in my head. I could hear how they would turn the melody into a catchy african-influenced guitar part. I could hear the jangle and the layered polyrhythms.
But it sounds nothing like that.
Which is too bad. The version in my head is AWESOME. I should write and record it and tell people this is what the VW cover SHOULD have sounded like.
