Yeah, no matter how big of a music geek I may be, I still can't enjoy Jimi Hendrix without some help from my pal psilocybin. (Apparently it helps whe you can "see" the music.)

Axis:Bold As Love should sound just as good straight as tripping. Then again, I've never listened to Jimi while tripping.
In fact, the only music I've listened to on 'shrooms were Steve Tibbetts' super-obscure
YR album and Frank Zappa's video
Does Humor Belong in Music ( awesome! ). Those 'shrooms were so killer they made selections from David Lee Roth's
Skyscraper sound good.
Oh, and I saw Leo Nocentelli and Ziggy Modeliste from the Meters in that condition too. (I mean, I was tripping, they weren't, as far as I know. And when I saw them, they were playing music, not, you know, waiting for a cab or anything. )
