And I quote: "As Onstad has proven, a successful artist doesn't need to keep providing daily updates to reward his longtime fans."
Someone please help me... at what point has Onstad not done daily updates!? Yea so they come at various times during the day, but as far as I can tell they come daily. And it's not like Drew Weing who states "As daily as we wanna be".
Jesus man it's FREE! And it's somewhat on schedule daily.
Ok, now I'm just ranting! But I guess it just kinda, it brings me down a little that something I enjoy this much, and that supposedly others do, get whinged about because of what really are little and utterly pointless things. If one person goes off it, surely it's better for them to get over it and move on than to bitch about it ad nauseum and piss others off!?
OK, but now I'm bitching about the bitchers. And this is a whole thing related to the 'wood that I wanna get over and move on from too. So that's it, that's me vented!
Let's vent people then move on!

Yea, that's where I found the link from. It just pissed me off enough to rant about it big time!
He was afaik (well ti was only a week or so ago) the one who started a whole bing row that lasted about 3 pages of topic on the dumbrella board and I feel partially at least made Onstad close the board. I mean I know it was long in coming, but something had to push it over the edge.

It's "fuddes" and I think he's also the one who keeps sending "Ray" the explosive diarrhea (I'm sure I spelled that wrong) questions.

A few things:
1. You'll notice that the first thing I say in the column is that Onstad is a genius. So I still love his work. But whether it's free or not, he still makes his living and pays his bills off the money we pay him, so I felt something needed to be said about the lack of production. So far I've received four e-mails from people agreeing with me and thanking me for writing it, and none from people who dislike it.
2. Keep in mind it's a humor column. While it does have some harsh jabs, overall it's meant to be an inside joke for people who read Achewood and have noticed the sporadic updates. As I said before, you're my first complaint.
3. My post on the previous board wasn't what shut it down. What shut it down was the fact that I was right about the quality of Onstad's new variety hour, and even his superfans saw this and started giving criticism on the board about it. Anyway, this new board is a lot better. There's room for everyone to actually discuss things without fear of being flamed.
4. To set the record straight, I wasn't the one sending Onstad letters about explosive diarrhea, but I did make a joke about that in a post in J's Place. My colon is very healthy.

Well, I still don't understand the complaints about lack of production. I've never known a day when he hasn't posted what he promised. Maybe I missed something, but checking the page everyday I don't see I can have missed something worth mentioning.
If you mean the variety hour not being as good, well, he promised it, and it was there. That's not a lack of update.
As for the variety hour, as I have asid other places, give him time. Ray's place was great first time round, but maybe the variety hour will pick up in a week or two. Got to give it a chance before complaining.
As I said (well maybe it was masked), I'm not straight out complaining about your article, I'm just saying my part, disagreeing you know, and I do feel somewhat brought down by something I enjoy day-in day-out being whinged about by people when the guy is on the button, humour wise more than anything, far more often than you or I could hope to be, and more so than any other comic I've seen.

The lack of production I was pointing out was in the strips. I can't count the number of times the strip would be delayed, and then never be done at all. As for the new variety hour feature, I'm willing to give it a chance, but I still don't think getting away from the comics is a good idea. But I could be proven wrong in a few weeks time. We'll see.
Slink, I have no problem with you saying your part. I appreciate any and all criticism. If the column upset you, then there was probably a better way to write it. So feel free to tear my articles to shreds. It will help me get better at what I do.

Well, I've had a couple of drinks now, so all I can think of as constructivity is erm, don't bother *'ing out the word shit
OK, constructive, the line : "You truly are a genius, albeit in a Republican sort of way" is great. Helped muchly by my love of anything that stabs at a republican.
I guess, IMHO and all, less saying things matter of factly, and slightly more surrealism would have helped make it more humourous for me.
I guess what you were after is the kind of thing I really like over at
theninhotline.net
- meathead perspective, a very cynical, satirical view of NIN news, often slagging Trent, but never coming across as anything but blatantly humourous. It just seems more sarcastic, and less 'trent's a shithead'.
But, I guess I'm less pissed at him, as is Meathead, then you may be at Onstad, or the people who appreciated your article.
Anyway, my 2cents for you.
