Couple o' comments.
Before now I thought the speculation re: Molly dumping Beef was a lot of hogwash. Now I'm not so sure. He's looking at rings, dammit! Molly, please don't crush Beef's heart (Beefheart?).
Does anybody else believe that Chris really went to the fair yesterday? I would pay large money to go to the fair with Onstad.

Unlike most fairs, I did not go home in a deep depression. Things were generally on the up and up and the nadirs of human ambition were not readily evident.
Well, this is a little out of synch, as he is mentioning "Liz" for the first time, and although I don't have the stalker-style knowledge of knowing for sure, I assume this is his wife? Also, isn't John Arbuckle's "girlfriend" in Garfield also "Liz"? I did feel like maybe this is a "real" post, but then, all of his "what I ate" posts evolved into a Risotto War. It would be interesting to find out how Liz likes living in Achewood, if this is indeed where we are going with this.
Also, I too tend to feel a great deal of sadness leaving a fair. It's an "end of summer" like feeling, like you had all these grand plans to ride all the rides, eat all these crazy fair foods, but really the lines were too long, the rides too expensive, and the food didn't taste as good as it looked or smelled, and you're all tired out, and it's not even worth staying for the two-bit fireworks display. Sigh.

In the right place this time:
leapfrog's uncle is in the marines or whatever and we boosted his digital camera outta his bag when he got back from iraq! ... we're gonna start a website, there are over 500 pics on this camera! hello benjamins
Nice to see that Little Nephew has the same entreprenurial spirit that Ray has. Perhaps LN's gonna have his own butler-type person show up to figure out what kind of a threat HE poses.
-

Whoa, good work; I was wondering what I was vaguely associating that name with.
-
Like AW, I would drop long green to hang about 'stad at a fair. 'Specially if he had an entrant in the weiner dog race (http://www.inmetrodetroit.com/Pets/Dachshund/Frederick/weiner.htm).
Please do not be knocking weiner dogs a/k/a Dachshunds. They are good dogs. Good boy. Yes. He's a gooood boy!
-
Lawrence Swanson, president of the Dachshund Club of America, says his organization is pleased, if a bit mystified, at the interest in watching a group of dogs with 3 inch legs run 100 yards in a minute and a half.
AWESOME.
-
I'm not convinced that Onstad is really married. But whatever.
I mean, how does anyone know for sure?
Anyway, no update to Molly's blog but now Beef is thinking about proposing, so I guess he really liked that finger up his ass.
-
I would pay large money to go to the fair with Onstad.
Watch eBay for "Hang With Onstad At the Dachshund Races." Buy It Now!

Dilbert's on again, off again girlfriend from earlier in the strip was also named Liz.
This week, we've learned that the way to Beef's heart is through his anus, and that Lyle is quite accepting of alternative lifestyles, particularly when they make him money. Lyle's financial acumen and openminded approach to porn continue the progression towards him becoming my favorite Achewood character.
-

I would never knock weiner dogs as they are essentially vertically challenged containers of pure awesome.
And if you do knock them, at least they don't have far to fall!

I copy the Lyle-respect. He's hardly my favorite character (that fluctuates rapidly between Beef and Teodor, depending on my mood and the phase of the moon), but he seems like one of the characters for whom the blogs have been the most useful, particularly since he's not doing strip-worthy things.
IIRC, Liz is in fact Onstad's real for-honest wife. I think this makes the first definitive reference to a real person who is not Onstad in Onstad's blog; a milestone?
Personally, I'm still concerned about the fact that we haven't heard anything from Ray about the outcome of the Hawaiian party. It seems like he'd be quick to brag if it had gone well, after the last few party disasters.
-

How do we know this? What makes you and Asherdan so certain of this? IIRC?

IIRC = "If I recall correctly," in internet slangology. Anyway -- well, I can't be sure, but I know I've seen reference to her before in various interviews and other Onstad-statements, and she usually gets thanks in the various Achewood books. She may or may not actually exist, but my impression is that she does and Onstad is married to her.
-
Well, that time I was stalking Onstad's dog on the Web and found the program for a dog show she was entered in, the alleged wife mentioned in the posts above was one of the co-owners of the dachshund alluded to in the posts above. I assume therefore she is real, because who would lie in a dog show program?

Whoooaaaa, you stalked a DOG on the INTERNET?

we are all so creepy. so. very. creepy.

Maybe Molly has yet to go through with her backdoor escapade with Beef. Although both their blogs pointed towards that possibility, maybe last monday they did something else? I would think that if Beef is willing to write in his blog (presumably) minutes before he gets intimate with Molly, he would mention something about the violation after.
Then again maybe I'm just reading into it too much and Beef likes that kinda thing.

Because speculating on the sexual proclivities of a cartoon cat is definitely not reading too much into things.
-

SIG!
-
The dog stalking actually started with a friend of mine, but this just makes me even more awesome and scary. Because she doesn't even read the comic. She was only stalking the dog because she knew I wanted to know.
As for this trip to the fair I see no reason to doubt it actually happened. None of us seem to doubt that Ray and Beef and Teodor are telling the truth in their blogs. What has Chris ever done that we should single him out?

He was born!
No, really. Think about it.

Well, within the fictional construct of the blogs, presumably all of the cats were born as well. The alive stuffed animals are an ambiguous case, but Teodor and Philippe both have parents, so that's a sign -- also, Teodor has a belly button. (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=01282002)
.. wait, why am I thinking about this?
-

I dunno. The blog is a curious blend of public and personal, so writing down something you don't want to brag about but personally sort of want everyone to know (e.g. "My girlfriend is doing totally awesome things and also I have frequent sex with her") but not something you'd rather not have people know (e.g. "I just got a finger stuck all up in's") is not totally incongruous.

THE INTERNET: so much more than pornography and spurious information about ex-girlfriends

There's also theft!

How can LN post about their new web site, but not put a link to it? What kind of a blogger is he?
-
...having fortified myself with the real-time results on-line.
I am so disappointed in Mr. Bear. It seems he's a bit of a bounder outside of the strip.
It's all part of his slow decent into greed-driven madness. Soon he'll build a vault to house his winnings and begin swimming through them. He'll put that 75 cents in a little glass jar.
-
Ray's latest post about Teodor is what I like about Ray. He may be a complete fuck*ng goofball, but he'd go to the ends of the earth for his friends.
-
If you morons would just look in the back of Achewood Vol II, you would see that he mentions his wife at the end of his little thank you note.
Christ.
Why would Onstand want to spend time with any of you? He couldn't even handle having a forum filled with you people.
-

Obviously we should take charm and civility lessons from you.
Dick.
-
Some people seem to be missing the point of Jough's comment about Onstad's spouse. He thinks he may have made her up.
I just hate to see our Number 1's depth of cynicism about human nature (or at least Onstad nature) going so woefully unappreciated.

Oh, and if you would bother taking a look at the front of Achewood Vol. II, the website, Serializer, the blogs, or 85% of the threads on this board, you would see that the artist's name is ONSTAD. One "N". Not Onstand.
-
THMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Style points awarded: Negative fifty billion.
I'm in agreement with c.del.v re the Ray thing. The dude does have an advice column, after all. He cares about people. And their dignity.
-
He also mentions Roast Beef and Ray in Vol. II of his book - does that mean that they really talk too!?!?!
Make sure you actually understand what others have posted before you call them morons - otherwise you look like an idiot when you address something that isn't even an issue.
Man, I thought only steers and queers came from Texas, but I guess assholes do too.
-
Fair enough. To be totally fair, I cannot prove that Jough is wrong and that Liz is anything but a figment of Onstad's imagination -- so I'll leave the debate there.
"district," are you naturally this much of a jerkwad, or are you giving your best effort just for us?

Wow! a real life Pat Reynolds! Say, why don't you go off and research ways to get a government grant so you can sue people full time?
-

Why would i want to spend any time with a psychologically damaged cartoonist 1/2 way across the country from me?
jeebus, just because people like your ART doesn't mean they like YOU.

He's famous for having the amount of facial/body hair that some other cultures/countries would deem "normal." How very interesting.
-
Jumping topics to a more appropriate place, regarding the characters reading each others blogs:
Molly updates hers because she saw Beef was updating his. Then Molly proceeds to not understand what's preoccupying Beef, despite the fact that she could read his latest blog entry and find out.
Inconsistency makes baby Jesus cry.

It's entirely possible to see someone updating his blog, or hear of the event ("I just posted to my LJ" or whatever) without actually seeing the entry, I've done it before, on both sides.
Also, it's possibly she's deliberately not reading his blog; if they have a sort of Achewood-privacy agreement, I could see her allowing him his own thoughts, even though she's concerned about him.

Yeah, but he's actually not the hairiest guy around. He's 96% covered but there are these brothers in Mexico that are 98% covered. Wouldn't it be interesting to be the record-certifying individual?
Did anyone else try to read the Engrish parts of his website? I got dizzy and I had to click away.
-
I did find the Engrish painful, but the best part of the site is him singing Engrish, with bubbles and flashing lights.

Pretty much what I said over here (http://achewood.plagiarist.com/viewtopic.php?p=23003#23003).
From the people I know these sorts of agreements among IRL friends are quite common.

Really? I would never be able to keep such an agreement. It would drive me crazy. If Molly is not reading Beef's blog because of such a deal she's a better woman than I am.

Wow. I agree, this is nine kinds of stupid. Don't want your diary public? Don't post it on the internet, Einstein!

Ray's party this week sounds freakin' awesome.
-
Yeah, my major problem is how commercialized Ray's party is getting. It sounds like fun, but way too much the paying kind of fun, and I was slightly unnerved to see the link to Onstad's actual hot-sauce selling.
On other Unexplored Blog Mysteries, was there ever any resolution to the four dollars' worth of grated cheese Onstad found on his counter? Did I miss it?
-

I don't think so. My guess is maybe it was Philippe? Or Teodor, grating cheese out of some nervous habit/despondent unfulfilled cooking project?
Damn, Lyle is the porn KING of Achewood.
-

I'm waiting for the inevitable Ron Jeremy cameo. That would rule.
-
Damn, Lyle is the porn KING of Achewood.
He snubbed the AVN Awards. That is so rad. To think, it all started with a Safe, Fun Taco.
I love how Lyle's subplot is taking place amid everything else: Philippe's innocence, Teodor's snarky everyman, etc etc. How long, then, before "The Boy's Medley" is co-opted as the title of a long-running + award-winning series of vile direct-to-videos from Chez Lyle?
-

Yeah, that kind of blows a hole in Molly's theory:
(Ray) puts a lot of thought into them and never even charges a cover. Even though he's a big dumbo, he's a sweet and generous dumbo.
Ray, you are such a fuckin' tool.
Should be a good time! We're gonna have tables with my hot sauce for sale at all the exits, at a slight party discount.
Who knows, maybe he's getting tired of bankrolling these large parties. They certainly sound like fun, but dammit, he sold his soul to the devil and some old-fashioned porno for more money than God. Why the hell does he need to market shit? I guess that he wants to keep living it up Gatsby-style, and I would assume that one not only needs a lot of scratch lyin' around, but has to keep it flowing if one's grown accustomed to a certain... lifestyle.

Does anybody else start singing Jenny Says in the heads when they go to Molly's blog?
-
Does anybody else start singing Jenny Says in the heads when they go to Molly's blog?
I start singing "Jane Says." She's, um...done with Sergio. He treats me like a rag doll.
DAMN YOU PERRY!
-
Well, see, usually Molly's pretty right about Ray -- we've talked a lot lately about his generosity, and usually he is pretty good about (sometimes inadvertently) helping those around him. Maybe that's why the Hot Sauce party seems so, well, off to me. Using his party as a profitable event seems very anti-Ray, and I have to wonder if Waterbury is somehow involved in this sinister turn of events.
(Not to mention it solidifies "Rad Chilis" hot sauce as being an actual part of the fictional world, which raises the question again of the dividing line between actual reality and comic reality. Why is Ray not only apparently aware that Chris runs a site about him and his friends but condones marketing through it? What?)
-
I don't think he wants to make money off Rad Chilis hot sauce. He just wants his hot sauce to be a popular hot sauce which people will buy and use.
-
Enough to make me change my sig.
And Philippe's little first encounter with Judas Priest reminds me of mine. Though less scary.
-
my take: ray made his hot sauce and likes it so much he wants to give everyone in the world the opportunity to try it because it's so good.
ray had someone bottle his sauce because he doesn't know how else to get everyone to try it.
ray gets bored with hot sauce.
waterbury realizes ray has eleventy warehouses of hotsauce sitting around and thinks it would be good for Ray to sell them (and good for waterbury because if ray goes broke...).
in short: It's a Fetid Plan from England, or, The Butler did It. Next time, on Blog Watch!
-
My great regret is that Beef did not actually school that priest. He's right; priests have nothing on him.
-
Does anybody else start singing Jenny Says in the heads when they go to Molly's blog?
I start singing "Lisa Says" by the Velvet Underground, but with Jenny instead of, y'know, um, Lisa.
"Candy Says" works too. But "Stephanie Says" doesn't.
-
Mr. Bear's crush is taller than me and I am pretty tall.
-
And Philippe's little first encounter with Judas Priest reminds me of mine. Though less scary.
This weekend I had some friends visit from out of town, and one of them brought his two year old daughter and a three year old nephew. On Friday night when the grownups decided to go to bed we managed to get the three year old moved to where he'd be sleeping without waking him, but when we moved the two year old, she stirred a bit. It looked like she was going to get back to sleep, so we got ready for bed ourselves. About five minutes later the stereo came on at full volume, waking everybody in the house.
Apparently she had gone over to the stereo and started playing with the knobs and buttons and managed to get it turned on and all the way up. This of course woke the three year old, who started screaming, which started the two year old screaming. This continued for the next hour and a half.
Enjoy, those of you about to have kids!
