is this anecdotal or made up?
http://laweekly.blogs.com/joshuah_bearman/2004/10/how_they_do_par_1.html
in local news,
the pro-kerry signs in my sister's, mom's, and girlfriend's yards were removed the night of nov. 1 by parties unknown.
i noticed yesterday (the 3rd) that one of the homemade kerry signs on the main highway to memphis had a green "w" vandalized across it.

why does modern politics seem like a professional sports league to me?

Probably true, but not very much different than the guerilla street theater you would find around urban college campuses, GAO summit meetings, and the like. It's not what I'd call a standard Republican tactic and it's kind of low. I think it should be more over-the-top and the people should not lie and identify themselves as Kerry supporters. That's over the line. And if they are such pussies as to not want their picture taken then they are obviously doing something even they don't believe in, which is just plain stupid.

Plus the one woman wasn't lying. A vote for Kerry was a vote for letting women control their own bodies.

Not only their own bodies, but the bodies of their unborn children as well!
Man, I want that kind of power. I was in a restaurant the other night and would have loved to perform a 12th trimester abortion on this screaming kid.

i'm not familiar with "guerilla street theater".

It's similar to what these guys were doing; you spring a political message on the unsuspecting usually in a public place by doing something shocking, engaging in political discourse, and then disappearing as fast as you appeared in order to do it again. This was the kind of political speech popular during the 60s; it still happens sometimes in more liberal and politically charged college towns.
Here's an explanation that may contradict some of what I said just now from a historian:

very interesting reading.
thank you for the url.
i'm only very early in on the article,
but it would seem to me to be rather different than pretending to support the other party in an effort to turn people's votes away from that party through lieing about a very strong/inflammatory issue important to the specific cultural demographic of voters at a location.
but maybe i'll get to the lieing later on in it.
