Good morning.
I'm curious to know the details of your most recent breakfast. Food, brands, ingredients, weather, accompanying side dishes, reading material, personal company, &c. For sociological purposes, I'd also love a barebones idea of who you are: where you're from, your approximate age, line of work/situation (college student, former US President, professional welder, &c) and the like. Any comments on the general concept of morning food will also be greeted with great interest.
Sadly, "great interest" is the closest thing to a financial reward we can offer for your participation in this study.
I ask this with a vague sociological interest and also with a desire to broaden my repertoire of breakfasts that occur to me in the morning before I have eaten breakfast.
My recent breakfast: a simple homemade jalapeño-cheddar frittata, inconsistently spicy and slightly overcooked, accompanied by grocery store brand sour cream, tomato-based salsa of a medium spice level from a jar, French pressed Green Mountain Coffee Roasters Breakfast Blend*, and two hot homemade buttered corn muffins, along with a side of the extremely crappy Portland Press Herald and a gorgeous rainy day. I'm a graphic designer/almost-grad-student born, bred, raised, and living in Portland, Maine, the beautiful city with the most restaurants and gay people per capita of any place on the east coast.
Yours in breakfast,
[ Franz. ]

This reminds me a lot of the early days of Chris's blog.

If you can ever call lunch breakfast...
I'm not up 'til after breakfast, and if I am, I can't actually persuade myself to feel not ill for long enough that lunch is easier.
If I ever do... Toast.
Oh, and, I'm not as old as I feel. I'm just a grouch. And I spend all my time working towards a career most people my parent's (or my for that matter) age would consider 'not a fuck*ng career'.
-
I'm at work. I didn't work out this morning, (I couldn't get to sleep last night and I don't like to work out on little sleep), so I only had coffee for breakfast. Yesterday was two eggs scrambled with crap salsa, one piece wheat toast with butter, some parmesan home fry-type things, a cup of pineapple and a pint of non-fat milk.

I'm a computer programmer, and one of the types who waits until the absolute last second before I get out of bed. Luckily, the little lady has been keeping portable oatmeal in the cabinet, so I can grab one on the way to work and eat it there in the morning. Today it was Fantastic® Banana Nut Barley Oatmeal. It was not very Fantastic, and I'll be avoiding this type in the future.
I really only eat real breakfasts on weekends.
-
Portable oatmeal? What a country!

Canadian, about to turn 18, currently pursuing higher education, and I love pancakes more than life itself.
However, my most recent breakfast was a bowl of red lentils and several cups of black coffee (French-pressed Nabob, medium roast). My wallet was stolen on the weekend and I just got a new debit card and haven't been grocery-shopping, so my food options are severely limited. I wholeheartedly believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and it is my favourite as well...
I take all my meals in front of the computer, so reading material is generally this very board, Metafilter, or any number of internet comics.
Also, when I woke up this first of December morning, it was snowing big puffy flakes of snow, the second snowfall and the first to stay on the ground. However, I didn't pick up my advent calendar until later this morning, so the experience was not entirely complete.

American of no fixed abode, 21, college student, and hot damn I cannot remember the last time I had breakfast.
That said, my breakfast tastes are quite plebeian -- mmmmmm, cereal. I've been doing a sort of brunch thing on the days I have time for it, if by "brunch" you accept that I mean "a thing of some Odwalla juice with a stupid name* and a cookie, eaten during an 11:00 class." This is getting fairly wretched, though.
I like omelettes and cinnamon toast when I have the time, though.
* I am seriously about this close to boycotting Odwalla just because they sell nothing that I can order with a straight face. No grown human being should ever have to request a "Tropical Calci-Yum Monster" from another in any context that does not involve a seven-year-old.

There's lemonade. Of course I liked Fresh Samatha better, simply because they weren't a front for Coca-cola.

Fresh Sawha? Odwha?
I generally drink squeezed OJ of some sort (pure, Sanguinello or a mix) though always watered down somewhat. Though I have just discovered the Apple and Mango I think it is that the chain that took over Safeway here do, and it's rather good. Peach and Mandarin makes a nice change.
It's either that or the 'dilutey OJ' as transparent as I can get it without it just being water.
But then, that's what I drink all day now I can't drink coffee so much.
-
This is by no means an average breakfast for me, as I usually have coffee with either cereal or a bagel.
Today I made a cranberry and sausage breakfast risotto, which was delicious. I know cranberries and sausages don't generally go together, but this particular recipe worked wonders. The sausage in question was a mild northern italian pork sausage that had a light nutty and smokey flavour. The cranberries were really only used to flavour the rice - no actual cranberries appeared in the dish, although the cran-tastic flavour was evident but not overpowering.
As for the other parts of your question, I don't really do anything for a living. I'm *cough* *cough* years old, from the Philly area, and have four degrees, split between English Literature and Philosophy, but no PhD YET.
As far as breakfast thoughts go - it is my favourite meal of the day. I generally eat it when most other people have already finished lunch, but I only eat one big meal a day, and two meals total - so since I had a big breakfast today (mmm... sleepy...) I will have a lighter dinner.
I really like breakfast dates, or meeting someone for breakfast rather than lunch. There's something about getting together with someone when you've both recently woken up that is special. Breakfast just feels more intimate and I'm not sure you can really get to know someone until you've had breakfast with them.
Also, I am of the old-fashioned opinion (being an old-fashioned kinda guy) that if a woman is good enough to sleep with you that it is your duty to take her out to breakfast the next day, or perhaps cook her breakfast if you're in a relationship with her. It's not a matter of quid pro quo - it's just the right thing to do, and a tasty way to do it.
-
I love all breakfast foods and will happily eat them at any time of the day given the opportunity.
On weekdays, I always have the same thing for breakfast, and I always eat it at my desk at work--a scrambled egg sandwich on wheat toast with cheese, onions, lettuce and tomato. I often read this board while I'm eating.
On the weekends, I usually have coffee first thing in the morning, which generally kills my appetite until noon or so, but hubby and I often fix ourselves a fancy breakfast on the weekends, even if we don't eat until 2 or so. French toast made with Hawaian bread topped with peanut butter is a favorite at our house, as is bagels with cream cheese, capers, tomatos and smoked salmon. We also sometimes go out for breakfast at our favorite neighborhood eatery and have "Crabby Eggs" which is crab cakes topped with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. You cannot begin to imagine how delicious it is.

Fresh Sawha? Odwha?
Fresh Samantha was a family owned juice company who made bottled juices and smoothies. The kind of stuff where the ingredients list is only 3 or 4 items. Which of course meant it cost 3 times as much as the fake chemical "juice-drinks" that Tropicana &c make and had a shelf-life of 9 minutes.
Odwalla is a sub-brand of Coke that does exactly the same thing. About 2 years ago they bought Fresh Samantha. It's usually sold at places like Whole Foods although the Safeway will usually carry 3 or 4 of the more popular varieties as well.

37 YO male ; low-ranking government apparatchnik;
Too busy getting a five year old dressed and fed. 7-11 coffee and a donut. Some days, a nice onion bagel with cream cheese.
When I have time, it's french toast, a nice mushroom omelette, OJ and coffee.

I tried to drop off dry cleaning on the way to work this morning (and failed; the cleaner had gone out of business), and so I stopped at the neighboring Manhattan Bagel. Got a "Philly Steak & Egg" bagel, even though I should be adamantly opposed to such things. Plus coffee. Ate it in the car on the way from the shopping center to the office; drank the coffee at my desk. The bagel-meat thing tasted OK, but then made me feel awful the rest of the morning.
Mid-30's computer-foolin'-around consultant guy 'round DC. Also the Mayor of Banana Town, bitches.

M-39, Government Attorney.
I generally eat breakfast about half the time. I generally eat in the truck on the way to work. I get Egg + Breakfast meat (bacon, sausage or the surprisingly tasty bologna) sandwiches sometimes. Other times I get Pop Tarts. Sometimes I grab a bagel or a tube of yogurt. I generally wash it down with a Diet Mountain Dew.
When I was doing Atkins I was eating two packets of that thin-sliced Chicken or Turkey for breakfast.
Weekends I'll usually eat an everything bagel + cream cheese on Saturday. Sunday I make bacon and eggs for the family.
I like breakfast food, but I'm not a big breakfast eater. My stomach doesn't fully awake until about 11. I had a ham and cheese omelet at Waffle House for lunch today.

Mmmmm, that's what I always get at the Awful House.

Five days a week, my breakfast is cereal (Life this morning, raisin bran and frosted mini-wheats are other common varieties), coffee and possibly half of a grapefruit (no sugar) while checking my email and reading this board. My boss is rarely in before 10am, and even if I get to the lab at 9:30 I usually beat everyone else, so there's no need to rush. Despite this, I only cook real breakfasts on the weekends (scrambled eggs and whatever is handy, especially chorizo, most often). This is surprising, as breakfast is potentially the only good thing about morning, and growing up it was fairly common to have scrambled eggs w/ bacon or crepe-like pancakes (skinny pancakes, as mom called them) for dinner.
Like I said, I work in a lab. I'm a post-doctoral researcher (more pay than being a grad student, but basically still cheap labor for a professor) in my early thirties, currently stuck in the middle of nowhere, aka Rolla, MO.
All this talk about breakfast makes me think it’s time for more coffee...
-
My daily breakfast is either a 20 oz. Cherry Coke or Mountain Dew. About once a week I'll eat some frosted shredded wheat right out of the box.
Basically I can't stand breakfast foods. Waffles and pancakes and such just taste so wrong.

I can vouch for wombat's clafoutis.
Yes! In this thread. (http://achewood.plagiarist.com/viewtopic.php?t=963&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0)
Despite this recipe I am not a breakfast person. Today I had a frozen waffle (Eggo, Buttermilk flavor) and made tea (from real loose tea leaves, Darjeeling Gold Tips) and put it in a travel cup and drank it in the car (VW New Beetle, green) on the way to my volunteer job picking up reptile poop at the zoo.

Excellent!

I was going to comment on Carlos' post (The Mayor) - but oh my word! Congratulations on quite an accomplishment!

taco bell: grilled stuft beef burrito w/o fiesta sauce and a large mountain dew. i was in a hurry.
ETA: actually, i'm 37. i just feel 73 sometimes.

Ohhhh dang. The grilled stuft is the bizzity-bomb.
Today, the first thing I ate was pad thai, around 2:00 pm. I actually was going to go to a French all-night breakfast place when I went on a walk at around 3 in the morning, but I didn't have my book with me. I ate with my friend Shannon and talked about how she used to be goth. Not all that interesting.
-
73?
I was just sitting here thinking "cool!"
-
Hey, I had a Taco Bell Chicken Fajita Grilled Stuft (yes "Stuft") Burrito for lunch today.
It was OK. I've had a Taco Bell jones since they've been running the commercials for those things. Glad that's out of the way.

What, Taco Bell's many breakfast items weren't good enough for your? No, you had to be a big man and order of the lunch menu. You make me sick.
-
Point out the many breakfast items (http://www.tacobell.com/menu/), please.
Ever since Drive-Thru Lobster closed, I've been unable to get the Big Man Breakfast Special ( three scrambled eggs on top of a broiled two-pound lobster ), so I've had to go elsewhere to have my big-mannish needs satisfied. And I am a big man.
-
Man, drive-through lobster? Hot, hot damn.
-
I just imagined a theme song.
"Where can you go
For a lobster on the go?
It's drive! Thru! Lobster!
Where is your station
When you're achin'
For crustacean?
IT'S DRIVE! THRU! LOB STERRR"
-
Bozack? It's 1 AM. You've already made my Thursday. Thank you. Thank you so.
-
Quite. Well, OK, it's 8am here. But I've been trying to work out what the tune I'm singing it to myself (in my head) is. It is so perfect for it, but I cannot for the life of me remember where it came from.
If nothing else you could probably fit it well to a Ren and Stimpy style jingle.
Great. I'm now going to spend the day singing both Log, and Don't Whizz on the Electric Fence.

?! Taco Bells around here all serve breakfast. They open at like 6 and have steak + egg burritos with coffee and such.
Also, here's the required link for the Breakfast Menu (http://www.brunching.com/breakfastmenu.html). The first time I read this I almost fell out of my chair.

THEY DO?!? WHICH ONES, MAN?!!!
When I lived in Albuquerque, the Taco Bells there served breakfast. You could get a smallish burrito with sausage, egg, potatoes, and cheese, for like 79 cents. Frikkin' awesome. When I moved back east, I walked into a Taco Bell in Petersburg, Virginia at 9 AM and asked for breakfast. I thought they were going to call the asylum and have them send a truck over.
If NoVa Taco Bells serve breakfast, this is a life-changing event.
-
The ones in Reston/Herndon definitely serve breakfast. And I'm pretty sure the one on Wilson + Courthouse does. I know people at work get breakfast from others but I'm not sure which ones. For a while they all had window-clings that advertised breakfast but those seem to have come down.
The other popular one is that Philadelphia Mike's started serving breakfast at Taco Bell-esque prices which is awesome. The problem is that I only know of two locations and neither is on my way into work.
-
Wow, that's weird. No Taco Bells out here in CA serve breakfast items, at least none that I've seen. Many of them have also merged with Pizza Hut, but unless you consider an individual pan pizza part of a nutritious breakfast, you're still S.O.L.
-
I think it's also weird that you can go to Taco Bell and get whatever off the menu at breakfast time when none of the items are breakfast items....
I sometimes get the McDonalds Breakfast Burritos. They are OK in a gross kind of way and with enough hot sauce.
-
Is Del Taco another fast food chain? We don't have them up here.
It's hard to find ANY fast food place in the Philly area that has breakfast at any reasonable time. Most of the McDonalds have breakfast until 11AM, but most of the burger kings stop breakfast at 10, and the one closest to me only has breakfast from 7-9AM. That's quite a narrow little window.
If I owned a McDonald's franchise I'd have all menu items available all the time (although you might have to wait five minutes to get an egg mcmuffin at 5PM).
-

I laughed so hard my head hurts. Seriously, I have to go lie down.
Good stuff.
-
That makes sense but what about Burger King? A couple years ago they started advertising lunch anytime. I guess to target people like me who get hungry while travelling but can't stand McMuffins or crasanwiches.
-
In college I would often eat at Sonic because they were one of the only fast food places who would cook a burger at 9:00AM. They do breakfast now too, and you can get their full menu, breakfast and lunch, all day.
-
Asherdan, you sure do know a lot about fastfood.

Geno's and Pat's are open 24/7, and I'll have you know a cheesesteak makes a fine breakfast.

6:59 am woke up in my bachelor aparment in the west end of Vancouver.
7:10 am Looked outside to see it is snowing for the first time this year.
7:12 am Poured myself a small bowl of Kelloggs Raisin Bran, towards the end of the box where the bran is all crushed and small and gets mushy really fast with few raisins remaining.
7:13 am Added 1% milk that expires today to my cereal
7:15 am Crawled back into my fold up bed to eat my cereal and read some Swamp Thing TPB for a few minutes.
7:31 am Had a shower, shaved, cut my hair badly
8:21 am Put on clothes and a toque to mask bad hair.
8:32 am grabbed my headphones and locked the door after myself and was on my way to work for 9am.
I write commercials for Four radio stations here in Vancouver.
I have Raisin Bran almost every weekday. On weekends I spoil myself with porridge one day and take myself to De Dutch Pannekoek house the other day where I order the Boer's (Farmer's) Breakfast. This consists of Sausage, ham, some other meat (?), two pieces of buttered toast which I cover with blackberry jam, two over-easy eggs and what they call a small pancake. I call it a fairly large crepe. I haven't figured out how to eat this crepe yet. Syrup doesn't work, lemon and sugar doesn't work. I just don't know. I usually order orange juice with this. It fills me up for a day of walking around Stanley Park here in Vacouver.
When I get to work in the mornings I usually have a cup of Gensing tea. The intention is to give myself energy to be positive through the day. I'm a bit hyperactive so Coffee is not an option. I life without Caffeine really doesn't sound that bad. I'm just another ***** but I run on different fuel.
