Is this what it is to be high? I have not been.

Nutmeg! It is so obvious.

Some of my favorite high memories are in the bathroom.

And I don't know about the rest of the pot-heads here, but high has never been like that for me.  That is just way too much activity.

The first two panels are priceless, though.

Ray responds to weed in a strange but cool way.
Welcome to my favourite strip yet.
Wonderous!

Pardon my ignorance, but why the fuck is Ray driving a box in the eighth panel? At first I thought it was the front of a tractor-trailer, but it appears to be a cube on wheels on closer inspection.

Is this just a random hallucination brought on by the drugs, or do people drive boxes that say "Ed's Pans" on them when they are high?

:?: This is to indicate that this is a question.

Woww, this definitely is my new fave.

I don't think that I've ever achieved so much activity whilst being high, but I might if I had Ray's means.  Certainly a lot of those ideas have the same tone of things that I've written down while on some drug or another.  Flipping briefly through an old sketchbook for this sort of insight:
"Malleable metals are the greatest invention of mankind"
"Backward wind is crazy"
"the bottom of an avalanche"
"Slinkies often like to speed down the road"

Yes.  I would say there is some sort of correlation.

I've never gotten that high from smoking pot, but I did have pot butter once that had me getting up out of bed and walking around my place making sure that reality still operated the way I thought it did and thinking "We humans look weird."

Yes, the random observations and complete lack of focus are definitely a big part of it.  But I just usually sit there.  Especially if I've had a little or a lot to drink, too.

This is my favorite comic strip EVER!
It is a lot of activity and I don't think he's trying to give the impression that he is actually doing all of those things, but his mind is.
It is all too familiar to anyone who has ever been on that sort of trip and of course like so many others, it ends with him under a table wondering if his mother has witnessed someone dying.

Writing down your stoned thoughts is awesome. I came to the conclusion last time that memory and imagination are the same thing... Give that some thought.
I really really really love this strip. I sure hope Ray gets high at least one more time again.

Awesome strip. I am reminded of one of my suitemates from freshman year, who used to regularly smoke a lot of pot and would record her observations on sticky notes that she would then festoon around her room to be recovered upon sobriety. The only one of these that I remember is "PEPSI CANS ARE TRYING TO KILL YOU   THEY'RE EVIL   STOP BUYING PEPSI," but I think all of them were of about this caliber.

I love the Ed's Pans truck. It just makes me happy in a very strange way.

I'd just like to add / restate that I love the way that Achewood has taken the word "idea" and made it its own.

being in trouble is a fake idea

Also, I don't quite have the same rah-rah attitude re: pot, as a few instances of experimentation determined that I am violently allergic to it, but I think that Roast Beef's first (?) pot experience, in which he wanted to sit under the bathroom sink and read Thrasher, was funnier and more authentic. To me, anyway.

Yes, there are highs, and then there are HIGHS.

Ray's experience has only been mine after, say, many consecutive weeks of copious amounts of marijuana.  At that point the brain immediately recognizes the beauty of THC and suddenly past highs are linked together into one glorious string of crazy secret jokes.

Sometimes they are shared with others, sometimes they are not.

It would take me two or three nights to have this much awesome, but Ray Smuckles is no human, and his mind is of a different plane.

Sweet son of Tarzan I love this strip.

I've been high like that, all walking around and making random free associations. That's my favorite kind. Hell, I've been drunk like that, too.

I saw Nosferatu driving a bus in Toronto one time, and I had a conversation with a Lorax.

Anyone here tried this legal substance? (http://www.sagewisdom.org/usersguide.html)

Just curious is all. And generally on something like a vision quest.

I'm from BC so we get a lot of BC bud. The best bud around. But because I have a career, the hang-over pot gives is a big turn-off. I need to be on-top of my game everyday. This Salvia sounds like a very positive way of going about it and since it's legal I can decorate my apartment with the plant. Hopefully I can get my hands on one.

You really get a hangover from pot?  It usually leaves me feeling pretty good, as long as I can sleep through coming down.  But then again, it's been years since I've smoked tons at one time. (Edit:  this is relevant because back then I rarely got hangovers from even drinking.  Now I can't have four beers without a hangover, it seems.)

Has anyone tried the vaporizer pipes?  The ones that heat up not quite to the point of combustion?  I like the idea of it because it seems the greatest threat weed poses is to your lungs.  Besides the threat of a criminal record, which is why I currently don't smoke much.  Only at someone else's place and if I don't have to be in possession of it.  I'm paranoid.

This sounds bad:

"This is important to understand. Salvia is not "fun" in the way that alcohol or Cannabis can be. If you try to party with Salvia you probably will not have a good experience."

And yes, Beef's experience is much more like most of mine.

Yeah, I've read a lot of trip-reports about salvia and it sounds like it's pretty terrifying if you actually break through (as we say).  I'm whatever the hallucinogen equivalent of a cheap drunk is though, so I probably wouldn't try it.  Mushrooms are more than (sometimes way, way more than) adequate for my universe-leaving needs.

Oh, and vaporizers are pretty ok.  They make a lot of outrageous claims about how much better the high is than other methods, but it's really mostly just that you can hold it in your lungs longer since it's not hot.  So if you've already developed Lungs of Steel, it's not entirely worth the hundred or so dollars they cost (here).

The hangover I was referring to isn't sickness or anything, it is a strange uncontrollable stupidity. The ability to absorb information is lost completely and forming intelligent sentences is difficult.
I write commercials, so forming intelligent sentences is a must. But I'm always looking for new inspirations perhaps transcending reality would be a good one.

Although marijuana, I guess, is considered a mild hallcinogen, I've never really considered myself a fan of tripping.  It takes quite a bit of pot to get that kind of effect.  Only did LSD once.

That said, Yo La Tengo is playing in three hours, and I could really use a certain mild hallucinogen tonight.  Oh well.

As for vaporizers, I'd heard that it reduces the chance of lung cancer?  That true?  From what studies I've read most recently, that's the greatest threat that weed poses.  Brain damage wise, it mainly causes short term memory loss, and some studies suggest that it doesn't cause anything remotely like the long term brain damage achohol causes.

I love how Teodor is reaching for the bong in the second panel.  Beer in one hand, bong in the other.

I'd love to try mushrooms, and I've heard some really interesting things about DMT (apparently, 60% of people who are on DMT have similar hallucinations). Any thoughts?

What variety of Vaporizer are you considering?

I myself am the owner of a Vapor Doc, which is similar to the Vapor Brothers, two piece style. It makes the "bowl" style vaporizers look stupid in comparison, though I don't have a point of reference with regard to the newer, all-in-one space age vaporizers.

To take this sort of off-topic and sort of back on: tonight I, after engaging in a large amount of ice cream with dear friends, have had a very Ray-esque experience. We even, God forbid, went to the supermarket and bought totally weird food because it seemed wonderful at the time. ("I should buy pomegranate-mango juice! That sounds like a super idea.")

I've had what was supposed to be DMT, though I suspect it was in such small doses it was fairly unnoticable (despite the quantities reportedly needed), and it was with mushrooms and weed (pyscho friends in my youth).
Mushrooms can be fun. They are a very natural trip compared to acid, and tend to produce far more hilarity.
Best thing I can say is to be prepared if you do go do it. I spent a while looking into it all before I tripped on anything, and it did me good. I always knew that whatever happened, I was going to be fine, and that I was in control.
I looked into salvia for a while, which seemed really interesting, and it was. It's part of the sage family, and has been used by the Mazatec for centuries, and people reported similar reactions to it - seeing time and thought as some sort of navigable hallucinatory matrix. It is notoriously difficult to get past the threshold with though, and I only managed it once. It was the most powerful trip I ever had though, and it only lasted about ten minutes.

Anyway... I say all that wondering if I'll ever take anything again. I did too  many manmade drugs when I was younger and they are most definitely no fun. I do plan to use mushrooms again, but for now, I will continue my rehab, which as Dennis Leary once put it, should be watching TV with a beer and a joint - staying clear of drugs.
