Questions:
1. What is paella without seafood?
2. What the hell does B.L.N. mean?
3. How does Pat continue to astound me with his dickishness? Also, why does he hang with Arthur so much? And why does Arthur hang with him?

1. Paella without seafood is Pilaf. Yes, the words are related: Pilaf, Plov, Paella, Polo, Pulao all come from the greek word poluv meaning "mixed". It was in origin a food designed by Alexander the Great's armies to be easy to carry yet hearty to eat.
2. Before Little Nephew.
3. Pat is secretly a knob gobbler.

Who is this Mitch Hedberg fellow, and should I see him in Kansas City (http://www.mitchhedberg.net/) tomorrow? At this point, I assume that a Little Nephew recommendation is one strike against him...

Actually, this is one thing that LN has gotten right. Mr. Hedberg is quite funny, in a stoned-monotone, deadpan Steven Wright type of way.

Indeed. Steven Wright is definitely the closest comparison in terms of delivery style. So read a few of these (http://64.233.167.104/search?q=cache:LWMxPl5KeLAJ:www.involution.com/mitchquotes.php+mitch+hedberg&hl=en) in Wright's style and you'll have your own personal Mitch Hedberg simulator.

We are all about education.

Pat takes Bromo Seltzer. I never thought anyone used this any more except my (and other people's, I suppose) old Italian relatives. And maybe people nostalgic for Baltimore. Is this a product that normal people consume?

That was what we in the trade call a "rhetorical" question. Rather than seeking an answer, it was interposed to make a point of its own; namely, paella without seafood isn't paella at all.

Pat is old (and crotchety, and dyspeptic) before his time.

I remain confused by the fact that LN sometimes refers to himself as LN and sometimes refers to himself by his given name (Charley Smuckles). What a strange behavior.

I saw Mitch Hedberg last week here in Columbus and it was HORRIBLE. One of the opening acts, some small woman from Canada, was heckled to the point of leaving stage after about five minutes, which was pretty much a buzzkill. Hedberg comes out and is really mad at the treatment given to the woman and spends the first few minutes of his set asking security to eject "that guy" who keeps yelling out. Bear in mind that this show was on a college campus and the hall was filled with guys who'd yell out random stuff, but security still found a stooge to bounce. Mitch never quite regained focus and he kind of stumbled through a lackluster set.
It turns out the woman is Mitch's wife.
I've seen him before and when he's on, he's VERY funny. Last week was not one of those nights, however, and he aborted about two dozen jokes about three words in. He'd say "I was at the...(pause)...no I wasn't" and then sit on his stool for a few minutes as he thought about another funny joke. Near the end of his set, he made no secret of pulling out a pipe and lighting up on stage. Granted, it was a regular, Grandpa-style pipe and not a "FOR TOBACCO USE ONLY" pipe you'd get from Import House, but still.
The really funny jokes never came.

Hey, half the time I refer to myself as Dr. Tormando. But that isn't my fault...
OK, so it's more that I know a couple who call me that, but it kind of stuck.

I saw Mitch last year up here in Maine with Dave Attell and Lewis Black.
I'd never heard of him before, but he was the highlight of the night. When he's buzzing, he's funny.

Jesus Christ, yes. I have never, ever laughed as hard at stand-up comedy as I have for Mitch Hedberg. I think the Steven Wright comparisons are unfair; he can have quite a bit of energy on stage, it's just that it's laid back energy. His delivery is, on occasion, the verbal equivalent of push-starting a car.
T TURBO NINJA I can see, though, how having his wife basically dissed off the damn stage by drunken college fuckheads would throw him off of his game. He's not an aggressive comic by any stretch of the imagination; I do enjoy it when comics rip into hecklers (e.g. David Cross, Lewis Black), but that's not really his style.

And apparently, Serpentor invented pizza (http://www.myuselessknowledge.com/joe/yb3.html).

This Mitch Hedberg guy sounds like he's funny.
(Need to get my "Posts" number higher.)

what is it that's so damn entertaining when a fictional animal talks about doing his taxes?

My first time to go to a comedy club I had won free tickets. The club was called The Laff Stop and the comedian headlining that night was an unknown Mitch Hedberg. I thought he was hilarious. I remember commenting to my date that I thought he would make it big. About 2 months later he appeared on David Letterman. I remember thinking to myself, that didn't take long.

if you're really curious, hedberg (who i think is hilarious) has two cds out which you can probably download online: "Strategic Grill Locations" is the first, and "Mitch All Together" is the second.
