Post by: V-Adore on February 07, 2005, 08:26:25 am
I call dream sequence. I really can't believe LN would actually act like this, unless there is something mysterious going on about which I am not aware.

I do like Teodor's lines, though. Anyway -- anyone have a transcription of the music of the day? (Also, I think I have actually heard a variation on this song's musical theme. It is rad.)

Quick, do you know what piece this tab is based on!

Minus over seventy thousand points if you mention The Doors.

Minus also another five million points if you mention The Doors.

If you mention The Doors I will cut your stuff between the two balls,
completely Mapplethorping it.

I like the fact that there is an elaborate spy-level exchange given the fact that they are at a party in a private residence where people are openly combusting the reefer.

Also, a "current soundtrack" for achewood comics (similar to what some blog software, or CJ's signature, does) would be neat.

It just occurred to me that I should change the midi patch to something that would sound more like a 60s era Ric. Hm.

"Here is that amount though"

You know, it's funny, every occasion I have bought drugs I have had an eerily similar dialogue.

Charley is definitely the type that would read a magazine about car stereos.

Edit: The midi file is definitely not being played with madness in my computer's heart. This is a problem I am trying to fix. I am trying to piss off my computer's heart.

I didn't realize they were discussing weed until I read the alt-text.  This makes me sad.

But I can't figure out where in the conversation this became the actual topic.  I thought it was when LN mentioned his secret ingredient, but Teodor is already looking sketchy in panel 7.

Why am I giving this so much thought?  Must be the cough syrup....

Fairly elaborate scheming for a deal that takes place INSIDE.

"Cue old timers groaning about the price of a lid."

Now I haven't purchased any in, well, probably eight years, and I certainly don't consider myself to be an old timer, but that seems a reasonable price.  An eighth would cost $40, as I remember it, so $300 an ounce doesn't seem too bad.

And yes, the painting's great.

The guitar music sounds like the beginning of Metallica's "Fade to Black" a little to me, or maybe "Sanitarium."

I did get that they were being coy with each other by the end of the first row of tiny panels (god, this format rocks) but it wasn't until I saw the little bag until I knew what was actually going down.

And doing cool spy-like stuff is fun even when no one is watching.

We always make a point to welcome Matt and all of his many loaves.  And so welcome to you.  As for your getting lost, after the oregano part, you move on to the final frame on the right.  Afterward, you can read the part below and appreciate the guitar tabs which are indecipherable to the general public.  Be sure to convince yourself that this last part is funny.  It'll be hard, but don't worry, life's better when you think things are funny.

In order to keep from getting lost in the future, please remember left to right, top to bottom.

Title: MP3 versions
Post by: Nice Dave on February 07, 2005, 09:19:31 pm
Hi there. Long time lurker, first time poster.

I ran Pierced Lemur's provided midi files through Timidity to get fairly nice .wav versions of the music, and then used BladeEnc to produce (probably illegal) mp3s.

Sequence One (http://voxprojects.dcit.com/achewood/sequenceone.mp3)

King (http://voxprojects.dcit.com/achewood/king.mp3) (tempo reduced by 10%)

As a generally drug-free person, I can't really judge portrays of trippyness, but this whole episode seems to be about what I expected. Brings back fond memories of Beef in the golf cart. The multimedia aspect is also fun. (I wonder what the bird/hallucinatory skeletal guitar player was strumming during Beef's bad trip?)

Blade? Damn, it's all 1998 up in here. That was abandoned (http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/boards/ubb/Forum2/HTML/000290.html) by its deveper 2.5 years ago. It's all about the LAME baby.

As for legality, I think Fraunhoffer pretty much gave up on requiring a license fee for encoders. Although Winamp, WMP, iTunes, &c all ship with encoders now anyway so you must have legal one on your machine somewhere.

Around here when someone has pot or whatever else they ask people on the street if they'd like to buy a pair of speakers.  I have no idea why, but once when I was in the market for speakers I got into the back of this dude's van and all he had for sale was pot and some pills and stuff.  Hopefully whoever found his body just assumed it was a drug deal gone bad.

Yeah, that was local around here wasn't it? And not too far off. I remember this because I firmly believe that Popeye's biscuits are a narcotic in and of themselves, that is until their half life fo ten minutes expires and they become doughbricks.

My favorite was a Taco Bell in Berkeley that sold crank under the name "chilito with double extra sour cream".

Also, $150 for a half-o... eh, wholesale I suppose. $180 seems more like retail for that kind of quantity. Those of you quoting these insanely low prices of yours either were smoking in the 70s or have never had anything but incredibly shitty mexican brown weed, apparently.

Well, this is the 400 mhz machine running a sketchy linux distro...  The machine that gets stuff done. There is no lowercase i this or Windows Media that near this particular box.

I won't try to liken my inferior compression ratio to the warm sound of a 1960 Fender Bassman, but I do think it says something that I got my MP3 encoder back when such things came from mirror sites in Croatia and pissed off The Man right from your command line. (Mostly it says, why don't I use Ogg Vorbis yet? But see, I am retro geek, or something. So bladeenc is a tool with historical significance, like an M1 Garand for home defense.)

Anyway, Pierced Lemur's Sample One, Now with slightly more madness. (http://voxprojects.dcit.com/achewood/sequenceone.mp3)

One thing I do not have is a single musical bone in my body, despite my Von Trapp Family upbringing... I can only guess at what a fast and heart-maddened tempo should be. Ah well.

Today I was listening to 30 Days in the Hole.  They basically mention every drug known to man and apparently if you get caught the worst that'll happen is you'll spend a few weeks in prison.  Today it's more like 30 years in the hole right...  Anyway, most of my drug consumption occured between the years of '78 and '85.  I only paid as little as 10 for an oz once and I quit because the price had risen to the outrageous sum of 30 per qtr.  I see the trend of heavy inflation has continued unabated ever since.  I don't recall there being as much useage of code back then either because no one would fuck with you over weed.  Hell we used to smoke it in movie houses with the cops 20 feet away.    And at concerts, forget about it, they would have to arrest the whole audience and the band as well.

However, in defense of todays weed it's a total skull fuck over weed of yesteryear.  Potency levels something like 1000 percent higher than back in my day.

So I guess it's a trade off.  Nowadays you have to pay through the nose and risk spending a goodly portion of your short life incarcerated, but the shit is so good it'll rewire your brain.

The bit should be played about four times that fast, a la Kottke's "The giraffeerman," and using a heated-up old Washburn instead of an electric Rickenbacker (or a computer program that you got at the grocery store). Emphasize the high notes as in "Back to the Old House."

Let's make this happen.  Together, in learning.

Sadly not true. Recent tests show about a 20% rise in potency in the strongest Dutch weed, but most of it isn't much stronger. That said, from experience, that extra 20% can be quite something. The shit we usually get over in Britain though, certainly isn't much stronger than anything else.
I go for the Dutch shit full time though. Explains a lot I feel.

Dammit Jough, I was all geared up to show the SO (who is also heavily involved in editing your openpoetry/poetryx thing, apparently) your commercial, and the file isn't on your server anymore. What gives, man! Hook a sistah up!

I don't know if that'll see the light of day again.  That was about a year ago already - so I'd have to dig it up.

If anyone has a copy of NutriJough feel free to post it wherever.

NutriJough (http://slink.canadian-studies.net/nutrijough.avi)

This is what comes of having too many hard drives.
It was great though!

Thanks Slink - I can't find a copy myself so I'm re-downloading yours.

Do you have the original commercial, too?  Or can someone CJ the link to the original download?  NutriJough doesn't really make much sense if you aren't familiar with the original unaired commercial.

Good call. It was in the same directory.

It'll be uploaded about 8 minutes from now, but I'm going to bed...

My computer borked the codec such that all I got was sound, but even so, that was a very special experience. Maybe it's best that I just imagine the visuals.

I believe Jough's was in Divx (or possibly xvid) which all the cool buccaneer-americans are using.

Man, I don't know crap for crap about "codecs" or "Xvids" or "moving pictures on my analytical engine." All I know is that I played the NutriJough file, WMP started up its soothing visualizer (I believe it's "Gemstone Matrix," and over the comforting colored lights I heard... THE JOUGH SOUND.

Quite the experience.

Honestly people, just install the klite codec pack, and it will take care of most everything, including installing Media Player Classic, which is by far the best player I've found.

Klite is good but can be dangerous if you let it install too much.

And Windows XP already has WMP 6.4 installed you just have to know where to look. I'm pretty sure that when klite "installs" it just creates a shortcut. Typing mplayer2 in the run box accomplishes the same thing.

Yeah, I have to admit to just using mplayer2.exe most of the time - I have it associated with everything but wmv files.

I either use that or BSPlayer. I like it because it'll play Real and Quicktime without having to install/launch another player

No, media player classic isn't WMP. It's based on it, but it's so much better. Millions of options, stability and a playlist, all in a small, fast package.

(it can be found on it's own on sourceforge.net)

It's my media player of choic when I'm logged in via cygwin and PROGMAN.EXE for that old-school feeling.

Yet another thing I had to lose for Pro Tools. I swear, music makes me sacrifice so much!

Here's a good rule of thumb, if the topic goes into four pages, you can be assured it's due to geek talk.

Page four, for geeks only.

Actually with the exception of the football thread I'd say around here geek talk starts on page 1. It's so glorious I almost don't miss The Random Game.

Your meta-topic is just a quiet ploy to push this to page five, isn't it, Paul?

Sequence One (http://voxprojects.dcit.com/achewood/sequenceone.mp3)

That sounds nice. Still, though, I play this at about twice that speed, and somewhere in the first couple of high notes a paired bass note or two seems to be missing.

Think Leyenda by Albeniz and you will be on more or less the right track. It's the guitar piece (originally piano) that "Spanish Caravan" (?) by the Doors is based on.
