Title: 3/7/05: This one, prick?
Post by: toddster on March 07, 2005, 11:16:18 am
So much good stuff here: Lyle's non sequitur cameo, Ray's "Can anyone hear me?" even though for all he knows, it's just him and Dr. Andretti talking... but I think my favorite bit is Beef in Panel 8.

Just look at that facial expression. You just know he's thinking "okay fine i'll sit here and listen because the alternative is getting up and walking away and if i just sit here and listen at least i don't have to hear pat talk but if i get up and walk away then god knows he's gonna go off again and maybe i might get shot".

Or is it just me?

I agree.
Also agree with the choice of title.
Pat, I love to hate you. How can anyone call Teodor a prick?!
I foresee an exorcism.
Achewood character's dressed like clergy!
Whooo!

I Also agree with the choice of title.

Clearly the title should have been 'Mayhem.'

This payoff for this cliffhanger was definitely worth the wait.

My current favorite part is Dr. Andretti thinking Ray is simply agreeing with his suggestion to take a pepto bismol by shouting AAAIIIGHT!!

That bit stood out for me too. I had a strange feel that this strip didn't all gel quite. So much is happening in it, but looking at for the third time, it works. It's just, and I noticed due to reading more of the Calvin and Hobbes that Watterson comments on (the Sunday Pages book), that it takes looking back on it having got it. It's not a simple one off gag, it's more complex than that.

So was Pat clearing his throat to make sure all the attention was on him, or was he just trying to focus or what?

Lyle gives terrible hints.

Dude looks constipated.

At first I thought Teodor had a baby monitor in his pocket.  You know, maye Ray's in Philippe's room or something, and for some reason Philippe has to be monitored.

Oh, and I guess Battle of Chickamauga, because it was one of the deadliest battles (the second) and the South won.  Pat, being a dick, would choose a very deadly battle, and definitely supports the South, but not in the name of racism, but because of the holy principle of States' Rights.  I know people like that.  They say things like "I would have supported the South, but not in the name of racism but in the holy principle of States' Rights" and they are total dicks about it.  Like you know they are just saying it to shock you.

Or maybe Chancellorsville.  Spotsylvania (because of the three it was the deadliest for the North)?  (Yes, I'm looking at a site with the top ten costliest Civil War battles.)

Federalism, bitches!

I think I would have to choose Pat's banjo homage to a deadly civil war battle over the prospect of a Paul Prudhomme sex tape. I definitely second the ewwwww!

Nah, you have to watch the Paul Prudhomme sex tape; it compels your attention, like a train wreck. Come to think of it, it's exactly like a train wreck.

I am a little disappointed that there is no readable music for Pat's banjo ballad.

Go Teodor! Nice use of ye olde noggin(e).

Seconding miles on how Pat would support the South, but not in an (overtly) racist way. No confederate flags for him, except perhaps on a bumper sticker next to the phrase "heritage not hate".

The "TURD-" always ruined my mental image of this dish to begin with. Bobby's version is actually a step up.

Me too.

That said, Beef's facial expression makes up for it. I love how he is in total agony, listening to Pat's over-anal-retentive banjo "stylings," and Pat is totally oblivious.

I like the double-decker pluck for harmony and PLUCK for accent. I think Beef grimaces due to reticent acceptance of Pat's much-improved (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=10062003) ability. Also hello!

How often do you hear about Turducken anyway? Seriously.

Often enough, bizarre as that might be.  I'm going to have to totally stop reading food-related messageboards around Thanksgiving, at least.

I'm still having trouble producing the image in my mind.  Guess that's a good thing, and I won't try to overcome whatever obstacle is in the way.

So, fortunately, I can still try Turducken if the opportunity ever arises.

It's clearly a step up from Underage scatological necrophilila.

Lyle gives terrible hints.

I thought his hint was pretty funny too.  Thinking about it today (I had extra brain power to do so as a morning class was cancelled) I realized that it's not that Lyle gives bad hints, it's that he's so fuck*ng excited to watch the tape he doesn't have time to wait for people to guess who got the tape.  Which is really odd considering the subject matter, but not quite so considering that it's Lyle.

Also, and sorry if it's been mentioned in another thread, but I like Ray on the 25% off all books banner at the top of the page.  It's like he's been caught doing something he shouldn't be, or perhaps he's only pretending to read a book.  You know, since he has that nice leather chair, probably in a nice study with book-lined walls, he might as well take advantage of it.  But he's not actually reading.

It's also tempting me to finally get my hands on some of the books.

Ewww!  This should never have to be read by anyone!  And you're right, it is clearly a step-up, but that's not what I had in mind when turd was mentioned.

To me he looks fake surprised. Like on a low budget film-strip where somebody looks up at the camera all, "Oh! I didn't see you there. I was just reading about the miracle that is zinc. Would you like to learn about zinc?"

It may be that my brain has been stewing in a mixture of brown ale and THC for the past, ohhhh, I don't know, day, but I seriously love all of you. Hurt by the cold. So hard and lonely too. When you don't know yourselves.
