Title: painting auction--roast beef and the apple IIc
Post by: ndpatel on March 31, 2005, 10:08:18 am
okay, i really want this. but i don't get the timeline.

i've always assumed that ray and beef were mid-to-upper-20s. 25, 26, 27. right? he's wearing that kennedys shirt (http://achewood.com/index.php?date=04222002) in like highschool, i thought. you know, like i did.

but that means he went to elementary school in the mid-to-late eighties, right? and that means his school was throwing away basically brand-new computers, since the IIc came out in 1984. maybe it was just the nature of public schooling, but i was using various forms of apple IIs well into middle school--at least 1993.

unless beef is like 17, this makes no sense. right? right.

good lord, i've thought about this too much. can i have the painting just for effort now?

Can't answer to the timeline, but the school wasn't throwing away old computers:

It was Dob Hendricks who privately financed the $5 it took to purchase the CPU, monochrome monitor, and power supply from the volunteer van driver who was relieving the school of obsolete equipment...

'S hot. And I don't mean like an Athlon.

What it means is, you must accept either:

a) cats age differently than humans
 or
b) it is a fictional character which doesn't actually exist

Also there is that one Serializer comic where he gets his computer by trading Showbiz his hat and bike.

from a can, no less.

on the other hand, there is something very pleasing about the idea of making one's living by drinking bud light from a can and painting outside in california, you know?

One of the photos that Onstad uploaded to ebay showing the painting shows a can of Bud Lite in front of it (for scale, maybe?) and I was just commenting that I never would have pegged Onstad as someone who would drink Bud Lite from a can.
