Why don’t you finish your degree out where he is? Colorado is not really a very good state, and I am sure California has better colleges. I just pray that when you finally move out there, you don’t find him in his bunk bed with some other girl, completely having sex.
'stad's really found his groove with Ray's Place. Screw the Variety Hour, man, give us more like this.
Column (http://www.achewood.com/raysplace.php?date=08192003&allnav=1).

And to those smarty-#####es that have been PMing me:
No, I don't ever sleep.
-
Yay! He answered my Vegas question!
Now I have to go to the Stage Door and get some hot dogs next time I'm in town.
-
Holy Crap! Ray's Place was wonderful today. I mean:
Man, I got a heavy question for you. What is your wife gonna do when you get stomach cancer and die at 35? What are you gonna do when she gets killed by a drunk driver tomorrow, even though it’s 3PM and that sort of thing isn’t supposed to happen when you’re just going out to buy some pasta noodles?
What about when you conceive a child, but you discover during ultrasound exams that the child’s spine looks like a damn firework that went off, and he’ll be a quadriplegic “hunchback” for life even though his brain functions are 100% of normal? You are just going to have to cold suck up these little problems in life. I don’t care if your cat died. The dead have it easy.
Wow. Just Wow.
Plus, jumping into the pool from the third floor balcony, goin' to the vet, Cat Vegas, and Battlestartrekwars.
Onstad has exceeded my expectations, wildly.
Not only is this stuff funny as all get out, it's damn good advice.

I've stayed at the Flamingo but it freaks me out because they have penguins. PENGUINS! In the desert!
<lewisblack>That's . . . not . . . RIGHT!</lewisblack>
-
Yeah, I stayed at the Flamingo, too. My daughter, who is a penguin FREAK, loved it. She got to touch one. I think it made Vegas for her.
-
Also, shouldn't they have flamingoes instead of penguins?
-
I guess the new server works. :)
-
Also, shouldn't they have flamingoes instead of penguins?
They have both. But at least flamingoes aren't artic.
-
Did enjoy todays RP. In some ways it's been what I've looked forward to most in the last couple of weeks. Kinda because the strips are being a bit random (time wise that is) and the Variety Hour, well, is that happening yet!?
But RP has been on a real high now.
-

I wondered the same thing. But if memory serves, I think there's a flamingo pond across from or relatively close to the penguin one. Which I'll admit doesn't detract at all from the weirdness of the penguins.
We got some articulate letters this time around, too (especially the last one). I wonder if RP is somehow prompting the elevation of email itself.

I want my own transkinesic Baryalon Pyramid!
-
Damn fine stuff this week, yeah. And it's a continuation of last week's trend of being good advice on top of it.
I can't decide which wins for coolness, though: the cherry trick (which sounds virtually guaranteed to get you hella laid when performed at a suitable bar) or the whole monologue about the pool party, which just sounds like the best party ever. The image of Mr. Bear cutting loose and jumping from the balcony into Ray's pool makes my day.
-
I would enjoy the Flamingo even more if they let the flamingoes and penguins go in the pool.
-
Ray is totally in the flow, great mix of humor and advice. I particularly like the way more of Ray's knowledge background is being developed on the sly. The starting note address the Kafka error from last week but then slips right into Hitchhikers Guide and a recommendation for D. Adams writing. Except Ray doesn't know Adams is dead. Great writing and great development of character.
But somehow I think International Towel Day (4 February, IIRC) would lost on Ray.
-
The dead have it easy.
Echoes of Mark Twain. I love it.
-
Also funny: Frank Kafka. Followed by the Adams comment, I laughed, despite still being saddened by the loss of Douglas.
Tragicomedy!

Try giving us a clearer picture of why you are unwilling to participate in your species.
Plus, a sweet Rosé will be perfect for rinsing the horrible flavor of pickled herring out of their mouths in a hurry.
If Onstad only wrote the advice column, and it only came out like once a month, I would still make sure never to miss it and would be glad as hell to have it.

It took me a few more readings of this to really get the bitterness underneath it. And who can blame Ray -- I mean, he went and got neutered, man. It can't feel good to be forcibly prevented from "participating in your species" only to see some ingrate write in and whining about his commitment to doing it voluntarily.
I'm not sure what's sadder, sometimes: what we learn about Ray or what we learn about his readers.

<self-aggrandizement>Someone called ‘Mark Twain’ a day before Onstad whipped it out.</self-aggrandizement>
