I go away for three days and there's no "Where's Carlos?" thread. You freakin' people.
Anyway. Me 'n' Mrs. del Vaca had another kid.
Catherine Margaret, born Tuesday afternoon. 8.5 pounds, not quite 20 inches. Big sister Lizzie says "Caffwin!"

All together now...
AWWWWWWWWW!!!

-
Um.... does this mean you can come have beer with us now?
-
Dang it people, keep it in your #####. Or at least swing by the drug store.
-
Congratulations, Carlos. All the best to your baby girl. And by the by, that is a lovely name you've chosen for your daughter.
-

I admire your spunk but honestly, a 1 month old child is not something you'd want to abandon for beer.
-
Congratulations, del Vacas. What a lovely young lady.
-
Many congratulations! Be prepared to be amazed by how different her personality is from the first one.
-
I must agree. Not only does that baby have an awesome name, it appears to have really nice fingernails. Pre-natal manicure, anyone?

Actually, this may be bad lighting, but what's with the bump or what appears to be a bump between the baby's eyes?

Dude, are you seriously critiquing the look of the man's child? She's a brand new baby, man. Wouldn't you have a few bumps n' such if you had to squeeze your entire body through a hole the size of a jar of mayo? And wouldn't you at least furrow your brow after you had done it? Wouldn't you?
God I'm cranky.
Anyway, big congrats CD, and to the missus. Lizzie and Cathwin, eh? That's deeply, deeply cute. They're probably both gonna be such beauties that you'll have to totally be polishing your gun on prom night _Just to make a point that you are aware_. As for now, enjoy the time before prom, and remember that one day you were a sweet young MR.D, taking out the future Mrs. D and your first date together, and how it all worked out for you, and how it'll all work out for them. Om, my friend, om.

Yes you ARE cranky. I am not critiquing the look of the man's child. I am just making sure that the baby is okay and it's something simple like bad lighting, bumps + bruises, or typical baby soft head stuff. Babies are totally a blessing from your deity of choice and everyone should realize that more del vacas are totally rad.
YOU however, need to explain the bump on YOUR head, man.
-
Bobby, that's obviously her third eye that only shows up in photos. Sheesh.
And Carlos et familia, congratulations. I'm sure she will fetch you a handsome price at the baby trade markets in Kuala Lumpur.

Dammit, beaten to the punch.

Sara's head was perfect after birth, but the older one (Becca) actually had a head that came to a sloping point in the front for a month or so.
It's all good.
-
Weird little bump all gone now.
Can I come for a beer? I don't know. Maybe. I mean, I'd like to come for a beer, but it depends on how Mrs. del Vaca feels about things. New baby + recovering from C-section + rambunctious 2 year old = "I really need you here." We'll see.
And as for being armed on prom night... don't I know it. I know we have to be wary of teenage boys, because I was a teenage boy once.
Cliche as all hell, but being a parent changes your outlook on damn near everything. Case in point: Remember when you were in high school, and you stayed out past your curfew, and when you came home your parents were all up in your shit and you were all such as, "Gawd, Mom, chill, it's fine." I will try to keep that in mind the first time Elizabeth isn't home on time and I'm all "She's lying DEAD by the SIDE OF THE ROAD I KNOW IT!!!!"

Uh, actually, if it were me, I'd be abandoning it for beer so fast...
You know, it would be nice to meet you, Carlos, but it sounds like the Mrs. is the one that really needs the beer.
-
congratulations!

Beer helps maintain/increase the milk flow. So does fenugreek, but beer tastes and smells better. Give the Mrs. beer! It's good for her.

Congratulations, multiple, from our little corner of the world.
I would like to point out with approval that your taste in female baby names is (almost) exactly like mine. (Baby Girl Name #1: Hero Elizabeth. Baby Girl Name #2: Catherine Grace.)
She's gorgeous. More pictures? Please?

We are considering attempting to create a male life within the next year. We gots two little girls too...anyone know any good wives tales intended to ensure male progeny?
-
AD, my sister in law found Taking Charge of Your Fertility (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0060937645/qid=1122935075/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_sbs_1/104-6081580-4439952?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) helpful in conceiving, and she recommends their chapter on gender selection (although I'm not sure if they actually tried it). You might also check out How to Choose the Sex of your Baby. (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/038548562X/qid=1122935231/sr=8-1/ref=pd_bbs_sbs_1/104-6081580-4439952?v=glance&s=books&n=507846) It's the "classic" in gender selection that everybody recommends.
That said, you can probably find all the information you need on the web. Personally, I used the tips found on BabyHopes.com (http://www.babyhopes.com/how-to-conceive-a-boy.html) (culled from the above-referenced book, as far as I can tell). They also sell the cheapest ovulation predictor and home pregnancy tests I could find on the web, and they're extremely good tests. (Up to twice as sensitive as the drugstore variety.) Ovulation prediction is the single most important factor in gender determination, so in order to pinpoint the exact day you'll need dozens of the little pee-strips, take my word.
Not to sound like some sort of infomercial, but we followed the advice on the BabyHopes website (linked above) and were -- obviously -- rewarded with the son we dreamed of. Granted, we had a (roughly) 50/50 chance, but I like to think that we helped things along at least a little.
IMHO, trying for a boy is much more fun for the lady than trying for a girl. ;) Good luck!
Edit: For the more clinically-minded, here's one last link: http://www.childbirth.org/articles/sex.html#sum

Don't "try" for anything. Have a kid and love whatever you get.
-
Well, yes, of course we would. That doesn't mean we wouldn't like to have a boy to go with our two girls.
Certainly it doesn't mean we would tie a girl up in a burlap big with a dumbell and throw her in the ocean.
I am sure we wouldn't consider a chilld of the opposite gender a failure on our parts. But we think that in the next year or two we would like to have a boy and if we can affect that outcome in some way, we would.
-
I know you wouldn't, AD. I'm just sayin'.
-
I'm with you - I'm still curious about thins people have heard about trying to affect the gender of the baby...There is this ancient Chinese chart that is supposedly 85% accurate using the mothers age and month of conception, if you can believe that...
-
In other baby news, my friends Ben and Christine (the Stillers) had a baby boy recently and named him after me (well, the lad's name is Quinlan Dempsey, so it's really only the middle name after me - but I'm honoured anyway).
So many babies!
-
Is that a combination baby announcement and celebrity name drop?
Are you talking about Mr Furious or just a regular old Ben Stiller?
-
Is that a combination baby announcement and celebrity name drop?
Yeah, I wasn't going to include the parenthetical info there but I figured what the hell...

Did you used to date Christine Taylor's best friend from high school? I don't THINK so, buddy!

Awwwww. What a baby!
-
Gasp!
Is that a photo of The Mayor himself with new baby?
Colon O!
-
The Mayor has lots of pictures on his website. Many with furry sports mascots. I think there is a latent plushie fetish brewing there.
Beautiful kid C.

-
Yaaaay!
Absolutely adorable. Congrats again.
-
Yay! JL we miss you, but clearly from your pictures you have been doing the most important job ever.
Happy babies to all, happy babies!
I wish for each of you new and not so new parents the least amount of screaming possible, the most aww! moments, the most "wow, you really are a mini human being, aren't you?" moments, the least moments of panic, the most moments of joy so deep you almost cry at their depth, etc, etc, etc.
