Well I guess he's Milklin (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=10062005). From the first two panels I totally thought Beef was just getting audited.
I like the moment where Milklin decides that he has said he is going to sit down and speak to Beef so he'd better sit down, inside or not also the really pitiful look after Beef does the last minute arm-block.
Edit: I forgot... 'Witness once rescinded' I hope no religion actually does that. I always kind of figured if you pissed off a religion they just chucked you out, putting you on a warning would make me feel like I was back in small school.
-
This feels way too much like a bad SNL skit. I really hope this doesn't become an arc.
I do like how Milkin's leg becomes a drumstick, though.
-
yawn.
-
Once again, the concepts are funnier than the actual strip.
Why is Beef wearing shorts when Milklin is clearly not wearing #####? How strange.
-
I think there are a lot better places this one could have gone...
like the trash can! OH SNAP! CAR OF PAIN TIME BIYATCH!!!
-
I don't understand. Who is so bad at their religion that they just, uh, spontaneously fall down? Is that what happens when you're bad at your religion? I guess I've never met anyone who was bad at their religion before.
In conclusion, wtf is this shit.
-
No, no, he asked if he could SIT and talk about his religion, but then after Beef denied him entrance into his home Milklin then decided that he must sit down anyway, since that is for what he was granted permission, even though he has nothing on which to sit.
See? It's even less funny when you have to explain it.

Huh. That is a lot less funny than being bad at one's religion to an extent that attempting to practise it causes one to fall over.

This strip is very confusing to me. The last panels must be metaphorical, how could Beef kick such a small, weak man? Very un-Beef.
Nevertheless, I like this Milklin, I hope he sticks around for awhile. Doubt it, though. =p

If you look closely, you'll notice the foot doing the kicking is clad in a boot. Earlier in the strip, we see that Beef is not wearing any footwear to speak of. The most likely explanation is that the foot belongs to a senior Jehova's wittness kicking this poor sap out of his religion.
-
I think this is the first time I have been totally apathetic about an Achewood strip.
Eh.
-
I didn't think it was that bad. I liked how the JW's were kind enough to warn people getting preached to that this one was flawed, the way so many establishments put Trainee* stickers or pins or whatever on their newbies. That being said, the chances of Milklin appearing in more strips than, say, Scrambles the Dog are slim. Maybe Jough should put a "Milklin" title in for 0-5 posts or something.
* When I worked at OfficeMax, I wore the "Trainee" sticker for long after I could legitimately claim to be one in order for people's expectations of me to be less than normal. When the kibosh upon that was finally put, I replaced it with "Big Cheese." Until the 6'5" store manager saw it.
-
I thought it was pretty good. Meh. The way he falls, and the fact that it's all drawn out, and Beef is just staring at him. This person is even more awkward that Beef.
-
It's got a good beat. You can dance to it. NOT.
I too was puzzled at the fact that beef is wearing shorts and milklin (huh? MILKLIN?) is wearing a shirt and no #####. As a veteran of many a discussion with both JWs and LDSs (there are many of both on this island, and since they all have to do their mission work, you wind up being targeted frequently) I have to appreciate the Arm Bar Beef puts up on the dude. Beef can bring the strong sac when someone weaker than him comes along. It's nce to see.
-
I just like how the teenage mormons that come around from time to time have the balls to call themselves "elders."
Also, that boot is not Beef's, but a representation of some senior witness booting Milklin out of the religion.
It seems to me that JW's and Mormons tend to attract the masochistic. These people take more abuse than a children's birthday party clown.
-
Sometimes it's not funny but it's still good.
I MEAN WAIT

did I do it right

I'm all for "Milklin" being the new "BANNED," ideally with "Witness Once Rescinded" as the equivalent of "On DOUBLE-SECRET Probation." ("He's the guy who's about to get kicked out of his message board...")
-

Yeah. I imagine the strip going like this: Beef puts up his arm to block the door, then Milklin falls down a steep mountain hill (sharp rocks, tumbling head over heels, glimpses of wildlife looking on with curiousity) and comes to a stop on a winding road. He looks up to see the lights of an oncoming semi truck.
-
y'know i'm usually pretty positive on these kinds of strips, but i have to say, the only reason i laughed at this one was that i had no idea what was going on untill i read it 3 or 4 times. then i laughed that it was so odd. so, i guess it's funny?
-
I liked it. The pacing totally draws out the "this is one of many worst moments ever in Milklin's life" aspect.
I had a lot of those before I decided that the NFL was a totally better way to spend my sundays than Religion. Plus it costs less and the partici##### work harder.
(Fun game to play with mobile Religion recruiters: Ask if they are a virgin. Act excited if they say yes, and disappointed if they say no.)
-
Hey, it's myth, how about that!
Yeah, this strip was no good.
-
The very first thing that struck me about this strip
was how unusual the name 'Milklin' was.
D'you think it has something to do with his milquetoastian personality?

I would bet my eyebrows on it.

'Witness once rescinded' I hope no religion actually does that. I always kind of figured if you pissed off a religion they just chucked you out, putting you on a warning would make me feel like I was back in small school.
The JWs call it being "disfellowshipped" and if it happens to you, your friends and family who are still JW can't talk to you, socialize with you and must actively shun you including running the other way if they see you. It's no joke.

Sounds like what happens to people whose families are declared SPs in Scientology.
This strip creeped me out. I also find that I have a surprising amount of sympathy for Milklin. Why? By whatever circumstance, he believes in the JW teachings... and is going to be excommunicated from something that is likely very important to him.
Sad.
Beef toying with him makes it worse; is being raised an inept Jehovah's Witness any less of a Circumstance? I mean, the guy doesn't get birthdays OR blood transfusions, and he obviously doesn't witness well. Hells of a candidate for i-got-problems.com.

Actually that just proves that it's all a huge joke.

Here's a glimpse into a sort of Hell:
JW Discussion (http://www.factnet.org/discus/messages/3/10124.html?1121655577&bcsi_scan_CC7B4506E62F4E47=iz6pwZogLX9PNWgO0W+TZzYAAABi7EII&bcsi_scan_filename=10124.html)
One for the Scientologists (http://www.clambake.org)
I'm not endorsing anyone's opinion here, just putting it out there.

Hi! I'm another long-time lurker... :)
Finally decided to join because I just wanted to say that, for some reason, I loved this strip. I like the idea of Beef being the first person to not immediately reject Milkin after he says he's a Jehova's Witness, leaving Milkin with no clue how to perform, to the extent that he doesn't even take it as a given that Beef might have chairs in his house.
I love panels 10 and 11 for reasons I can't explain.
-
oh lord you know what i just realized?
the shoe kicking milkin really reminds me of Onstad's Shoe. (http://achewood.com/rsrc/img/about/the_cartoonist.jpg)
man what a dick.

/Throws a rock at anyone who said "J-----h" in this thread.

Worse? HOW CAN IT GET ANY WORSE??
J-----h! J-----h! (doing a little dance) J-----h!
Brought to you by the Judean People's Front
-
Jough should TOTALLY implement a filter to render any typing of his name as J----h.
-
Milklin returns next week. Take this as you will.
-
yay!
-
Did we first see Milklin here (http://www.achewood.com/comic.php?date=01072005)? Or do all Achewood religion solicitors look alike?
-
By George I do believe you're right.

-
Oh no! Don't tell Court about this, it would be like message board castration!
-
Clearly, when he was attempting to convert Ray, he hadn't been rescinded yet, as he only has one tag on then.
Maybe... maybe it was Ray's fault!
-
I really need to read the entire archive again. I'm totally slipping.
-
That guy's more mormony. Notice how he didn't say Jehovah. Also, I don't often see J. Witnesses with name tags, anyway.
-
The mormons in my neighborhood all wear #####. If you looked at the link I posted earlier, it seems apparent that a lot of JW's have problems keeping theirs on.

They are also probably human. Anyway, I've never had a JW come to the door and ask to talk to me about Jesus Christ. I don't think they think of him as a deity, as mormons (in their weird little way) do.
-
So I guess since we can all agree that a cat knocked on another cat's door, one was wearing shorts and the other wearing a shirt, both standing upright and speaking, I guess we can also agree that maybe Milklin belongs to a fictional religion that requires door-to-door proselytyzing that is neither JW or LDS.

He appears to be fairly explicitly a JW. (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=10062005) Presumably they just do it different in the underground.
Alternately, he could be some sort of anti-JW proselytizer, which is an amusing image.
