Milklin finale? (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=10132005)

Even if you dislike Milklin, one must agree that he was worth it for this joke.

But, dolphin lung: no laughing matter.

Forgiven Orson Welles for WHAT?

For that horrible Peas commercial?
For degenerating into an obese madman after letting the world fuck him over after he made fun of the most powerful media man?
For wearing a cape?

These questions and many more will never be answers, but the mind boggles.

War of the Worlds?

Hey it's not his fault they made a movie of it with Tom fuck*ng Cruise.

However if you're arguing that without it then the movie wouldn't exist then I suggest you go all the way back to the progenitor H. G. Wells.

I mean if you can't appreciate his booming voice spouting "that grinning globular invader" then maybe you deserve the hose.

Babybaby.. why you gotta make me hit you?!

Then again, you may be right.. could be all the trouble and scaring he caused with the broadcast and thus would fit with the Old Timey magazine thingie and lo I am an idiot in the morning and once again I slink back into my cave and stab myself in the eyes with skewers; I really do.

I forgive Orson Welles for everything.

Anyway, this is pretty funny. There are several gags I like -- the non-specificity of "the war" in which people lost brothers, the Old Timey clip art, the song names. As a denouement to this strip goes, I like it fine.

One of my friends sent me an mp3 of Orson Welles recording some  commercial, and berating its writers and all the other poor people who had to work with him.  It was pretty much the saddest thing, unless the saddest thing was that he was a voice in the Transformers movie.

I would suspect that, since this is a magazine for very old people, that they might be still ticked off at being tricked by the War of the Worlds radio broadcast.

They might also still be mad at him for knowing what evil lurks in the hearts of men, then laughing about it.

I know this is a played out genre of post, but surely "Chicken In The Basement (Do-Fi-Dum)" would have been a better thread title.

Onstad nailed the tone of this magazine pretty much exactly. My grandmother used to get this -- it was about as depressing as it seems.

I think I'd have remembered "Chicken In The Basement (Do Fi Dum)", though.

My favorite part was when he says something along the lines of "you find me a jury that will agree with that and I'll go down on you!"

Orson Welles did indeed play Unicron in the Transformers movie. Dignity issues aside, Welles would be the first choice for the roll of a planet eating monster.

Other shameful apperances in the Transformers movie: Leonard Nimoy, Eric Idle.

You people are asinine.  Orson Welles is one of the greatest ever.  Yes he berated a director who was so far beneath him he wasn't even worthy of his contempt, yes he made some questionable career choices for the pay late in his life, yes he got fat.  So what.  Check out The Third Man or Touch of Evil and tell me that's not the work of an utter fuck*ng genius.

Whoa, whoa whoa. No one was saying (or at least I wasn't) that they didn't think Orson Welles was rad. I think he is one of a kind, the likes of which will never be seen in the entertainment industry again, and I have MUCH respect for him. That being said, all these stories of him yelling at directors and being in the Transformers movie just add to his character. I don't know about anyone else, but hearing him go off on that director just added to how great I think he is.

More Orson Welles trivia: Lucas wanted him to be the voice of Darth Vader.

Son, I believe I gave what are conditionally now called "Mad Props" to the man in the above at some point.  However it must be said that he did go quite mad by the end.  It's sort of a quaint idea.. genius does his first big movie, gets screwed in the ass royally by studios and has to deal with being a genius without backing UNTIL THE END.

Yes Touch of Evil and Third Man are good, but imagine them with more financial backing and thus more ability to flesh them out.  Imagine them in a world where he wasn't an ostracized, tubby-loon; it's so beautiful in my mind!

(Also I think I had a friend once who played the Ostracized Tubbylune... women would weep and have immaculate conceptions whenever he plucked the 89th string in the R# Natural Chord.  The multi-orgasmic chant alone was worth the 40 dollar cover fee he charged for getting in his apartment for these impromptu self-jam sessions; with actual jam.)

Paul! Step OUT of the CAPE and move AWAY from the BEACH.

For all of OW's genius you can't deny that he really did basically become a cartoon of himself in later life.

Also, if you don't let all of us intellectual hacks get our pseudo-hipster-smartness-aggression out on this board, we might actually say dumb stuff IN PUBLIC.

I must admit I pretty much like everything I've seen that Mr. Welles created.  Even "minor" stuff like The Trial and Macbeth are compelling in that "total world" way.  Even F for Fake had its moments.

The Magnificent Ambersons, even butchered by the studio, is one of the greatest films ever.

And now to something completely different:
Is Ray wearing Cornelius' robe? Is it part of an act where he's pretending to be an intelectual dude, all pretending to read a paper and such?
OK, you can go back to Orson Welles now.

I don't think ANYONE'S participation in the Transformers movie should be a point of shame. If I had been involved, I would only wear t-shirts emblazoned with the box art, with a little arrow pointing to it and the caption "I WAS INVOLVED."

Anyway, I have a crush on young Citizen Kane Orson Welles.

While I tend to skim the board most of the time, I think I'd remember that one, Smells.

I have a crush on Veronica Lake in Sullivan's Travels, but then again, I am a straight male and my heart is still beating.

When I was 13, I saw "Beetlejuice" for the first time, and totally had the hots for Winona Ryder, who was, what, 16 at the time. And then I saw the credits and realized that it was Winona Ryder. It was a sad day for me, like the day I  found out Zadie Smith was married.

FUN CELEBRITY FACT: Did you know Kathleen Turner likes to read fantasy novels, in bulk? Neither did I, until I sold her 5 fantasy novels this evening.

I met Kathleen Turner once too.  She was drunk and kept touching my ear.  And you could pull a dogsled with that voice, it was so husky.

I would have remembered that too. I don't think you did.

Although those classic hollywood broads are OK, I'm all for the trashy late 70's / Early 80's women. I'll take a Barbi Benton with a side of Audrey Landers, please.
