Well, even more pitiful than the fact that so many others have done it, (http://www.cryingwhileeating.com/) is the fact that I've done it myself. Enjoy.

You, uh, know this was for a viral media contest, right?

You, uh, know this was for a viral media contest, right?
I have no clue what a viral media contest is, can you explain? Is this site an ad for something then? My SO and I only just found it seconds before I posted the link, and well, since we don't have Quicktime, we can't watch the actual videos, but I found the pictures and descriptions entertaining - is there a comercial for the In-and-Out at the end? Have I been duped, just like I complained about here? (http://achewood.plagiarist.com/viewtopic.php?t=2276) If so, well, I suck.

You, uh, know this was for a viral media contest, right?
Please take this as an utterly honest and sincere question and not in the least bit snarky:
Why does it matter?
As a consumer of the media created, why should I care that there is a commercial purpose behind it? Since virtually all of the media I consume is commerically supported in some fashion, why is this commercial support mechanism objectionable?
As a theoretical producer of such media, why do I care? Unless there's something about the particular commercial entity that's objectionable, why is it wrong to have a commercial patron? I can understand an artist having qualms about receiving support from BigOil'N'Tobacco'N'Slaves, Inc. But absent a specific complaint about your business sponsor, what's wrong with accepting money from a corporate patron?

Man this viral marketing thing has gone freaking weird. I was into a couple of those ARGs a couple of years ago and I enjoy interesting sites even when they have a commercial basis but some of this 'marketing' is just way too opaque for me, I keep feeling like people are forgetting that there should be some mention of a product involved in marketing.
Then again if people are making weird sites and totally failing to tell me about their product I guess I shouldn't complain, it just feels like they don't understand what they were meant to be doing and increasing the number of weird and stupid sites on the internet.
-
Is this a viral media thing? There...there aren't any products.
The "lonely in a crowded room" one is great. I swear to God, I'm going to do that at work tomorrow. Just standing behind my little clerk desk, smiling while the tears run down my cheeks, just hoping that I can PUT a BOOK in the CUSTOMERS HAND.
-
It was viral marketing for its own sake. The author (who writes Explainer for Slate) wrote a column about it after he realized he'd definitely lost: http://www.slate.com/id/2121384/
-
Oh, so the site was made as if it would be used to market something, but not actually used to do so? I don't think that effects my enjoyment of the site to know that. I suppose it's like enjoying an ad art poster (http://www.lautrec.info/) - the product, if there is any, is so disconnected from the thing I am viewing that I don't even consider it advertising anymore.

What he's eating: Brie cheese on a hot dog
Crying because: He thought it was old mayo

That's brie cheese on a hot dog bun you fool! Brie cheese on a hot dog is awesome.
Moment of shame: I've only actually eaten brie in quesadilla form

That's the kind of low culinary shenanigan I would have expected from Choopernickel.
Sounds foul. How was it? And have you tried that with limburger yet?

You know I tried to take the high road, but i'm sorry, BigOil'N'Tobacco'N'Slaves, Inc. make the best god dammed burgers ever.

Quite good. The bar at Landsdowne in Leesburg used to make a crab and brie quesadilla that was much better than it sounds. The only reason I ever ordered it the first time was because I'd never had brie before.

i really wish i was better at separating the seething hatred i have for marketeers from the wishy-washy ambivilance leaning towards negatives i feel towards multi-nationals.
i mean, if you want to manufacture and sell a piece of, well, something, hoo-rah for you.
but why are you paying someone to subtly manipulate my emotions, my psyche, my philosophy, my lifestyle, my body in an effort to make so i don't even think about buying your product, i just buy it.
one day, when i am king, i will brainwash the marketeers such that they feel it is right and good to eat shit.

Bozack, when you get into town let's make one of these. I can't see the videos either, but I bet they're hilarious. Are you coming for thanksgiving? or not until christmas?

RIGHT!
well so B and I talked about it, and of couse what is the first thing he suggests? I'll tell you, but wait, go ahead and guess....
got an idea?
Ok: It involves eating "Dong," ... you are correct!
I vetoed it for predictability and lack of effort, but we ARE going to make one, or I am if he decides not to grace mw with his prescence. What should be eaten? Why should we cry?
-
Okay, this is the idea that Beatrice rejected.
Music: "Please Please Please, Let Me Get What I Want," by the Smiths
Opening shot- my eye. A single tear rolls down my cheek.
WE PAN BACK
I am sucking on a dong, coming out of the fly of a pair of jeans.
PAN BACK
The jeans are being worn by Beatrice. She turns to the camera and gives a thumbs up.
FADE TO BLACK.
I am an unrecognized GENIUS.

You need to be eating risotto, and of course, be crying about the saddest thing (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=11052001) or the other saddest thing (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=06022003), or maybe each of you crying about one or both.
-
best idea ever
alright!
and (we) are having this conversation over an empty breakfast table
-
Bozacks idea wins.

Good times, for a change...
This thread reminds me of the time I made a video of me and my friends crying while singing.
It's much more humourous than crying while eating.

Good times, for a change...
Ah - so have you noticed that the climate of the board has become pissy of late too? *What's up daddy? Did you bring the love?
* a door-to-door salesman called me Mommy in a very sexual way a couple of weeks ago. The first time he said it, "Okay, Mommy," I thought I'd misheard him. When I more agressively insisted that I didn't want to lower my heating costs he said "Are you sure, Mommy?" I was very weirded out and I closed the door in his face.
-
Oh, actually, I was just singing the beginning of "Please x3 Let me Get What I want."
But yeah, I have noticed that everyone has been a little pissy lately, including Daddy himself.
It's just the stress talking, baby. Daddy still loves you.

Was he saying Mami? or Mommy?
Also, good for you! stick to your guns on paying high heating costs!

Oh there's the local gas company that bills based on usage (the one we use), then there's the municipal gas company that bills you one standard bill all year long instead, whether your usage is higher or lower than there charge (the guy who called me mommy). Since we built an energy efficient house, with an extremely high efficiency gas furnace, we don't have any interest in the standard rate bill through municipal gas, 'cause unlike most of the much older houses around here, we'd be paying quite a bit more than the actual cost to heat our house if we went with them. We have teeny-tiny gas bills, but because our house was designed to look exactly like all the other character homes on the street I've had a hard time convincing the municipal gas people that my house is indeed a brand new energy efficent house, not one that leaks heat from every crack and window like most of the places on our street.
And it was definitly Mommy, and he said it in a pouty-little-boy-voice and even stuck out his bottom lip. Did I mention he had a Carribean accent? I suppose only a man with a Carribean accent could pull this line off and have the effect be me taking him psudo-seriously, instead of, say, laughing right in his face. I was half disgusted, half amused by the whole thing.
