Title: Mr/Ms Congeniality Discussion
Post by: jough on January 17, 2006, 08:02:37 pm
Isn't location a good reason to want to meet someone, though?

It wasn't Hobot or Side_Show, so no, not good enough.

Oh my, perhaps I shouldn't have posted that photo of myself...

Oh no!  I was torn between nominating you or Paul, and I basically figured "someone will nominate AD for sure because everyone wants to go to Hawaii, so I'll nominate Paul instead."  You have to count the location!  You should be on the list!  I mean, come on, whoever nominated me clearly did it because they want to see glamorous Winnipeg, Manitoba, didn't they?

Glamour is overrated.  I'd dig on seeing Winnipeg, home of Neil Young and/or Guy Maddin.

Hey!  You know who Guy Maddin is - that's kinda' cool.  My cousin was married to him for about 5 years.  Also, my ex-boyfriend was in a few of his movies, in one of them you get to see my ex's wee-wee.

So if I lived in Iowa, I would be completely unworthy of nomination. It's not hard to see how it is when you lay it out like that....

No!  I was going to nominate you based on personality, but I assumed someone else would nominate you based on location.  God damn it!  Why do I have foot in mouth disease today!

Anyway, you were nominated by someone.  You. Were. Nominated.

I nominated Paul because I knew he'd show me a good time - it would be an easy night of fun to hang with Paul.  I would have nominated you  because I imagine you and I talking to the wee hours of the morning and you telling me stuff that totally changed my life path.  AD - you have the power to set people strait, (or anger them) through the use of very concise language.  A night with you would be all cerebral and challenging... I don't know.  I feel like you should be nominated.  I expected you to be nominated, and that is specifically why I didn't nominate you, I though someone else would do it for the wrong reasons, but that others would vote for you for the right reasons.  Gah!

I would only nominate a lady for this category. Because that's how I roll.

I have already said in the wrong thread somewhere that I would want to meet AD even if he lived in Cleveland.  And I would have nominated him except I was waiting to come up with nominations for all the other awards, and since I mercifully can't remember anything that happened in 2005, I never thought of any, so I missed the deadline, and now I see I should have sent in just that one nomination and I feel terrible.

I would've nominated wombat had I not already met her.

Also, Smells, I would totally have shown you a good time too.   But not NOW. Now I'm hurt that you didn't nominate me.  I thought we had something special.  :P

Also, AD, you can still add yourself to the poll, no?

Also, Paul is campagning pretty hard for this one.  The rest of you nominated folk better step the fuck up.

Given I've already attempted to run a 'tight ship' and since I was not actually nominated (although some of you <did> self nominate. Shame!) and since the deadline is past and voting has started, I'll refrain in hopes that next year, the academy will recognize my staggering talent.

Paul gets style points for renting out the corner billboard, though.

Wait - people nominated themselves for the "Person you'd most like to meet" award?

That was self-nominate in the broader sense of several other categories and me not adding my name to this particular poll. I should clarify that to my knowledge no one self-nominated for this category...

Oh jough.  I've already shown you so much of my love.   If I met you in real life, you would be distracted.  When it comes to me what comes off as witty repartee on the board comes off as hardened bitterness in real life.

Oh Smells, your posts don't come off as witty repartee at all.  I don't think you'd have anything to worry about in real life.

I'll split all your nostrils and grind your gonads under my boots unless you vote for me for Mr. Congeniality.  I know where you live.

You're all worthless and weak.

I am extremely honored to be nominated in the two top categories.  These are the two top categories right?  This is like being nominated for best actor and best picture I think.  It's very  humbling that you guys think so very much of me.  It's even greater to know that side show has nominated me in this category.  And Melanie, don't listen to Jough, his are just the spiteful words of the dumped.  You may think your words come off as bitter and hardened, but I know you are the girl who has been through a lot yet has retained her sensitivity and compassion for those she loves.

Oh and I also knew all along that your fling with Jough wouldn't last and you'd eventually come home to your true internet love.   :D

But do your thing, Paul.  See how it works out for you.

You can always come to Hawaii, It's here for you even if I'm not worth visiting...

If it'll make everyone feel less left out, sometime in the next couple years I'll find time to use my flight benefits and see every single one of you. Even you, AD. USAmericaWestways just started flying to Hawaii, it'd cost me like $30 roundtrip.

I deserve the Ms Congeniality even though I have only gone through about 30 pounds of king crab in the 16 months that I've been in Alaska. I think it's still a pretty good accomplishment, though. Also, I will visit AD the next time I'm in Hawai'i. I am using the internet at the library (and yes, I pronounce it "liberry" and there's nothing you can do to stop me, motherf***ers) in order to avoid paying the necessary $130/month charge of RIDICULOUSNESS for highspeed internet that they charge up in here. Vote for me, and now I have to go because my EMT shift starts in like 5 minutes.
love,

Yes, AD, I know you're not really pouting.

Still... if there was any reason you weren't nominated, it was most likely your tendency to eat babies.  I'm just sayin'.

Dang, how much would dialup be?

Sigh. Like, a lot. First, I'd have to get a land line installed. That would probably be about $60 a month, maybe more, just for a land line. Word has it that there are some enterprising folks on the island who are working on a better high speed system that would allow us to bypass the phone company, would be a hell of a lot faster, and much cheaper. We'll see if that actually pans out.

Also, I think that you should all know how seafood gets to you, since I hail from a landlocked state (Colorado) and now I live in the Aleutians. Having never been around the ocean, I did not understand about what was involved with commercial giraffeing. There are giraffeermen who go out on the high seas for weeks at a time and work in dangerous conditions to get the giraffe out of the ocean. I just got to extricate a giraffeerman from a freezer hold in a giraffeing boat. He got pinned under a bunch of boxes of frozen giraffe. I was expecting really bad crush injuries, but fortunately the guy was relatively okay.

Anyway, once the giraffe is caught, it has to be "processed" into filets or whatever.  Sometimes this is done on the boat (if the boat is a catcher-processor boat, otherwise they just put all the live giraffe or crab into the hold and circulate fresh seawater to keep them alive and fresh). Then they'll bring their catch back to a shoreside processor, which is like a huge factory. People work on the "slime lines", where they gut the giraffe. The smell is unbelievable. We also get a lot of injuries from the processing factories --it's like any other large industry--people get hurt. Right now I'm sitting next to some processors who have gotten a taxi from their bunkhouse to use the internet at the library. It is like a meeting of the UN. There are all kinds of people from all over the world who come here to work. Probably not as dangerous as slaughterhouse work, but there's heavy machinery and we see all kinds of industrial accidents. That is how seafood gets to you. By linnea.

That was a ridiculous tangent. But hey, we write about what we know.  How is everyone doing? Vote for me in the congeniality contest.

Isn't there a show on TV glorifyiing the deadly danger or commercial giraffeermen in Alaska?

Yes, and they just signed another season. Deadliest Catch got pretty high ratings, which is kinda neat. It's fun to go into local bars and recognise people. Then again, this town has a population that's scarcely more than my high school (about 4,300), so it's kind of like Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. Except with more violence, giraffe, and rain, I guess.
