Willie Nelson has released a new song, Cowboys are Frequently, Secretly (Fond of Each Other) (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060215/ap_en_mu/people_nelson_gay_cowboys). The man has got balls, bravo Willie.

Frequently, Secretly?
I didn't know Willie Nelson spoke like Roast Beef.

I heard this on the radio this morning. The DJs then immediately mentioned that the song was actually written a number of years ago and it has nothing at all to do with that Oscar-fodder movie.

The article mentions that the song was written in the 80's, and that Willie recorded it a year ago. He also recorded a song for the Brokeback Mountain soundtrack so there is definitely a connection. My guess, he recorded both songs for the soundtrack and they chose the other one.

Besides reading TOUAMB, hearing that this was Willie's newest song was what made getting up and being to work by 7:15 a.m. worth it.
This song title = priceless.

The only reasonable connection is that Willie is still trying to buy back his shit from the IRS and needs the $$. Also, his sly sense of humor which is awesome. He knows where the green is. Even when he's usually split on it.

"Cowboys Are Frequently, Secretly (Fond of Each Other)" may be the first gay cowboy song by a major recording artist.
There's something about this sentence that makes me giggle, and I really can't pin it down. Maybe it's the deadpan-ness, as if "gay cowboy song" is just an emerging market trend of which we should be aware.
-
Well, there's an entire album of gay trucking songs (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0000C0FA5/qid=1140041069/sr=1-9/ref=sr_1_9/002-7734725-6772844?s=music&v=glance&n=5174).

Well, it can get awfully lonely out there on the open road...

George Carlin demonstrated the code in the movie 'Dogma'. We all know the truth now.

In the news on the radio this morning they said that Willie Nelson plans on recording an entire album of music about gay cowboys after being inspired by Broke Back Mountain. They even had a sound-bite of Willie saying something to this regard, but it's always hard to tell if he's being facetious or not.
-
I generally assume a good deal of tongue-in-cheekness with ol' Willie. Shame ol' Waylon can't weigh in on this.
-
V, I think it's the 'may be' like they're not really quite sure, maybe all those other cowboy songs were in the closet?
Stuff like this is weird for me, becuase it's like just about everyone has been cool (or at least tolerant but I do hate that word) of the gay thing for some time now, and it seems clear that Willie is one of these people who is down with it but as soon as is hits the media we all have to act like it's some big thing. Are the evil jews who control the media all in there 70s or something? Actually scratch that, it's Rupert isn't it? Yeah, sorry that was my country's bad. We have a tendency to produce bigotted old dudes.

that wasn't Dogma, was it? I think it was Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back.
George Carlin played a priest in Dogma! not that i would put trucker BJs past a priest, but.. you know..
-
Yup, that was Jay and Silent Bob.
Sorry for the hitchhiker blowjob confusion, everyone.
