Title: Onstad removed the TenMen songs off RadioAchewood.
Post by: Kunster on February 25, 2006, 05:10:59 pm
Any special reason for so? What happened?

A theory is that the Tenmen is his band and the recent reference to the Tenmen in the GOF thread led to a bunch of people listening to the songs on Radio Achewood and realizing it is crap.

That's a very diplomatic way to put it.

Yeah, Onstad pretty much only lurks here rather than posting because he does not want us to know that he bends to our whim like a reed in the wind.  If you don't acknowledge reading a good idea on a message board, then you don't have to acknowledge stealing it, either.

Plus, sOOp hurt his feelings by saying that his old band sucked.  Way to ruin it for everybody, sOOp.

You're the admin - are you saying O-dogg logs in to steal his ideas, I mean "get inspiration"?

It's actually a moderately serious issue if that's the case, although for him and not you. If it can be proven that he is exposed to ideas that he later uses, the person who suggested the idea could conceivably sue for the rights to that idea. For example, if Jough were to suggest "Milklin develops testicular cancer and becomes an atheist who proves his nihilism by jumping off the Goodyear Blimp", and Onstad were to do so, and there were no record of him logging in here, it is much easier to pass as coincidence. But if there were a record, then Jough could sue for the rights to the idea and conceivable damages for having the idea stolen.

That said, I dont really think anyone here is that much of a dick to threaten suit. This is more of a concern for big studios (for example, if I work for Pixar or Disney and I visit a fan page or fanfic page or such and coincidentally, something mentioned there gets put into Toy Story III: Contractual Obligations).

If I was going to sue someone for the big bucks I don't think I'd pick a webcomic artist.

You'd pick an author's dog instead?

Bobby, let me just say that IPs of visitors here get logged whether that user is logged in or not, and I am the only one who has access to said logs.

'Nuff said on that issue.

I was only giving a little ribbing to Onstad, who is very creative and I'm sure that all of the things that were mentioned here and then later showed up in the strip in the past year are, um, purely coincidental.

I'm sort of surprised that Radio Achewood is even still up, truth be told, given that he hasn't updated it in alive stuffed donkey's years. My first guess would be "more bandwidth was being spent on that as the result of the Tenmen bump than he thought was worth his time."

Isn't it better, though, to just assume we're all smarter than Onstad and he is definitely coming here just to steal all of our wonderful ideas?

Hopefully it will inspire the Tenmen to make better music. Oh, and ruining things is my standard thing. I don't mean to do it. It just happens.

he bends to our whim like a reed in the wind.

Nice Dune reference. It made me chuckle.
