Roast Beef's appearance in the logo worries me.
His thought process right now: MAN WHY YOU EVEN GOT TO DO A THING
-
Does anyone know if that's true, what it says in the alt-text? I am not too lazy to look it up on the internet because that's what I am exactly doing.
-
As Ray said,
Google, someone who was nineteen designed your logo. It is now seen by every living thing, every day. Hundreds of years from now, archaeologists will think we were all nimrods. Nice going.
Six Ray heads isn't too much of an improvement, although I did get a hearty chuckle out of Ray's ridiculous narcissism. I love Beef's expression. Also, I would still like to have Ray's logo in Firefox, if such a thing can be done.

If so, I will pay the sum of fifty dollars apiece to arrange similar replacement logos for popular websites.

Dude is in love with his own tongue.
On many strips, that would be the most disturbing idea in months.
Here, it feels like watching the Utah Blockbuster Video edit of Bill Murray's "Quick Change".

If you do have Firefox and Greasemonkey (https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/748/) installed...here you go:

Hello, fifty dollars!

Uh, I am not going to pay you, but thanks!!!

Oh, hell yes:

-
Now someone needs to make a full "Ray licks things" font.
C'mon, one of youse can do it. Or... commission Onstad to do it.
-
I just installed the Greasemonkey script and it has even changed the little "Google" logo on my Gmail page.
Internet Alchemy
and also
Education
-
Hell... yes.
-
Damn, I hope Onstad still occasionally reads this board.
The combined horror and flattery of our fandom might literally cause his head to explode.
-
Hey all, just got out of a mental hospital, and it's good to see that things are more or less the same around here.
The Google logo replacement is doing me all sorts of kindness. Thank you.
-
This one is made of all kinds of brilliant.
-

Future '07 TOUAMBIE award nominee as soon as I figure out an appropriately goofy category name.
TOUAMB, making mental illness the norm.
(hope your doing well, regardless of my lark)
-
Since Google is comprised of the words "Go Ogle" I have pretty much determined that the site itself is unsalvageable and plan never to go there aga... Wait, what does it mean to curb mussels? Damn, now how I am I going to look that up?
-
Since Google is comprised of the words "Go Ogle"
CAN FOR EDUCATION.
-
Remember, kids, the true mother of invention is porn.
-
You've made me imagine an awesome newsreel.
"Porn! Nature's innovator! Porn, driver of internet development! Porn, determiner of video formats!"
Just a booming newsreel voice over still images of awesomely nasty pornography.
Thank you for that.
-
God DAMN he did one for Wikipedia too.
<fumbles for his wallet>

Wow, I hope that you're doing okay as well.
I'm a big fan of the crazymeds (http://www.crazymeds.org/), myself. I'm not a creative-genius uberspazz like jerod (http://www.crazymeds.org/crazypeople.html) (epilepsy, autism, bipolar, anxiety disorders, etc), but I still need meds...just like diabetics need their insulin and stuff.
Some of my friends growing up were involuntarily and voluntarily committed at various points. Some of their hospital experiences were helpful and good, and others not so much. I hope that you had a beneficial stay and that you were able to take something positive out of the situation.
-
good lord, prosopagnosia? that sucks. Somehow that one bothers me more than any of the others.
-
I just disabled the Google thingy... damn hell wouldn't show attached pictures anymore - only Ray's logo. I don't need *that*, Onstad.
-
Oh, I'm fine. It wasn't a suicide attempt or anything like that. Just some out of control bipolar depression, but I'm on some better drugs, have much better therapy, have groups to go to, and all sorts of junk.
In-patient care can be fun (there was a pro wrestler in there!). It's usually three parts recovering junkies to one part messed up crazy, which is nice, because they're generally more together and interesting than depressives and paranoids once you get them away from needles, bottles, and pipes. Also nobody gives ugly women drugs, you know what I mean?
In the evenings I'd go to AA meetings to kill time (and yeah, while I wouldn't call it addiction, depressed me wasn't exactly abstaining from the sauce either...) and I have to say Ray and Lyle hitting the steps would make good arc.
-
So, they don't have internet access in a mental hospital? But they have TV, right? I mean, doesn't that just make people feel worse?
-

Wow, I... thought you were joshing about that. I thought that was a joking explanation of absence.
I'm.... glad it helped you. I've had panic attacks that have cascaded into small nervous breakdowns before but... I've never quite been in that deep. I'm very glad you found it helpful. I have a close relation who is a schizophrenic for whom the drugs have never fully worked and... his times in-patient have not generally gone well.
Though I suppose that may be more the severe nature of schizophrenia as opposed to the choice of hospital.
:: Also nobody gives ugly women drugs, you know what I mean?
I have never thought of it that way.
I'll take that as the one positive in case my anxiety ever takes me to the inside.
-
Since Google is comprised of the words "Go Ogle"
It's also the anagram of wonderful phrases like "goo gel" and "egg loo".
and "log ego".

and "log ego".
I've had one of these before and I do not suggest them.

Isn't a googol a really big number? I think so... No doubt Wikipedia will set me straight.
Edit: It is: 10100
Apparently its larger than the number of particles in the known universe, and is roughly similar to 70! (the number of different arrangements of 70 people in a queue that are possible). Sagan said its precisely as far from the value of infinity as is the number 1. There's something to gaze at your navel over.
Apocryphally, its the misspelled inspiration for the name of the search engine company as well. So it all comes full circle...
-
and is roughly similar to 70!
The first time I read that, I thought you were just really excited about the rough similarity of 70 to 10100 in a sarcastic or facetious way and punctuated your thought accordingly. Then I remembered some high school math.
I preferred the emotions I felt when I was mistaken (this is usually the case with me).

So Onstad had a meeting (http://chrisonstad.blogspot.com/2007/02/my-trip-to-google-with-photos.html) with the Google folks?
Is he, like, in Trouble? How awesome would it have been if he tried to explain the situation as if Ray and Teodor were real, as opposed to imaginary and stuffed, respectively?
"Mr. Google, sir, what you need to recognize is that cats are... well, they're sneaky. It's hard to keep an eye on them. And once they learn to use computers, they become terribly difficult to control. While I certainly apologize for Teodor's involvement, I simply can't see how I can be held responsible for the cat's actions. He's richer than all of us. He is highly motivated, and draws from an enormous pool of financial resources."
I'm guessing that there isn't actually a problem since the link to the code is still there, but I like the idea anyway.
-
I guess that it's similar to 70 in the same way that they're equally distant from infinity as well...
Strangely, for a non-mathematician, I sometimes do get excited by numbers (or the way numbers work anyway). I suspect this is yet another deeply geeky part of my personality, as my enthusiasm is rarely matched by my fellow biologists. Example digression to follow - tune out if you're a math-phobe:
My company has a large number of actual forehead-bulging, journal-writing, mathematicians who frequently present their work to the rest of us in technical reviews, pre-conference workshops and the like. They seemed to have a preference for taking the numerical output of some of our instruments and performing a log-transformation to base e, after which they'd do algebra and statistics and stuff. I wondered about that and dropped by the Ivory Tower to ask why they always did this. It turns out that log-transformation has some very nice effects on how numbers behave (variance stabilization, additive rather than multiplicative effects of underlying factors, etc) so I started doing the same thing with some of my data.
So far, so good - nothing really to get charged up about (I'm just doing what the cool kids do with their toys).
One day I was trying to figure out a way to explain to an innumerate colleague what log-transformed values mean, and in the course of fiddling around with percentages I suddenly found that differences in natural log-scaled numbers are roughly equivalent to percent-differences on the linear scale!
Is so cool.
Also: New Mexico Whiptail lizards are all female, and reproduce parthenogenetically! <--Biologist bona fide

My math skills were more of the "make the calculator say BOOBLESS" variety, myself.

I was totally going to call you out for being obviously not a biologist until I got to that part.

Maybe he finally got around to starting Google (http://chrisonstad.blogspot.com/2006/02/it-has-been-ten-years-since-college.html).

Isn't a googol a really big number? I think so... No doubt Wikipedia will set me straight.
Edit: It is: 10100
What is better is a googolplex, which is 10googol. Does that number really exist, or was that like a joke made by mathematicians who were trying to outdo each other?
Edit: It exists. However, it is still kind of a joke.
In about 1920, Edward Kasner's nine-year-old nephew Milton Sirotta coined the term "googol"; Milton then proposed the further term "googolplex" to be "one, followed by writing zeroes until you got tired". Kasner decided to adopt a more formal definition "because different people get tired at different times and it would never do to have Carnera [a champion boxer] a better mathematician than Dr. Einstein, simply because he had more endurance.
Googleplex, of course, is an online database of movies.

Once I discovered that the levels of Pascal's triangle correspond exactly to the powers of 11.

math makes me kind of sad. Because by the time I realized that it wasn't hard and I was kind of good at it, I'd already locked myself into a sequence of being a year behind in math classes. No Physics AP for me, even though physics is easy as hell.
Now that I am in college and I don't have to take math or science, I am yearning for them. Weird. I am planning to take calculus and physics and computer science soon.
-
Wow, it does look nice as the Google logo. Impressive!

Or an especially erudite tag team
Or a giraffeing show for the extra-literate. Every episode would contain a word of the day and they would use it repeatedly.
"The giraffe sure are laconic today, eh Bob?"
"I wish YOU were a little more laconic, Joe."
It would obviously have a very small fan base.
