Post by: Arachno-capitalist on June 24, 2008, 11:36:23 pm
Who was the ugliest politician/statesman/public figure of all time? Living or Dead, Domestic or Foreign.

Can't find any portraits of the guy but you have to figure Baldwin IV (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baldwin_IV_of_Jerusalem) wasn't too pretty (the tip off was that his nickname was 'The Leper').

My vote for ugliest aussie PM is George Reid. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Reid_%28Australian_politician%29)
(but James Scullin (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Scullin) had the best hair cut)

It appears to be a creative way of hiding front U pattern baldness.

Not quite as "ugly" a case as leprosy, but Ivar the Boneless (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ivar_the_Boneless) was pretty badly deformed by most accounts.  King James II of Scotland (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_II_of_Scotland) was known as "Fiery Face" after an unfortunately located birthmark - a medieval Mikhail Gorbachev of sorts.

More recently, Victor Yushchenko deserves a mention, although he did get better again afterward; also Montana Libertarian Stan Jones (http://www.billingsgazette.com/rednews/2002/10/03/build/local/72-candidate_large.inc), if only because it's entirely his own fault.  Colonel Qaddafi has quite a mug.  And while Evo Morales isn't exactly ugly, he does look exactly like a kid I knew in first grade who used to go around giving everyone noogies all the time.  Man, I hated that.

Theodore Bilbo, (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Theodore_G._Bilbo) inside and out.

Quote from: Wikipedia
[He] was nicknamed "The Man" because he tended to refer to himself in the third person.

Holy shitballs, "The Man" was really a man? Wow. Just. Wow.

He's no adonis for sure, but The Man's inside is far uglier than his outside.

Believe it.

Quote from: http://www.applet-magic.com/bilbo.htm

Bilbo's tongue got him into even more trouble when at Blue Mountain College he called a political opponent, J.J. Henry, a cross between a hyena and a mongrel dog begotten in a graveyard at midnight, suckled by a sow and educated by a fool. This was too foul for J.J. Henry to bear. He boarded a train Bilbo was riding and found Bilbo. Bilbo apparently tried to escape and Henry hit him several times with the butt of a pistol from behind. Henry then asked Bilbo to apologize and Bilbo refused. Henry then hit Bilbo six more times giving him a concusion and an open wound which left a scar. Henry surrendered himself to the police at the next station and Bilbo was taken to Jackson for medical treatment. Bilbo did not press charges against Henry but he used the incident to elicit sympathy for him in the rest of the campaign. Bilbo won the Lieutenant Governor primary race easily, as did Vardaman who was running for the U.S. Senate. The victory in the Democratic primary was usually automatically equivalent to victory in the regular election. Bilbo did also win the regular election, but he was so detested in the Delta that many voted for the Socialist candidate instead, enough that the Socialist candidate carried two counties and almost another one. After victory Bilbo then proceded to build a powerful political machine seldom if ever rivaled in Mississippi history.

(I originally read the story in "Washington Goes To War", except there it was a "****** graveyard" -- substitute a racial slur)
