OK, so reminded by Jough's dream of a DVD, I have to appeal to anyone here who may be able to help.
Although I'm not sure I want to know if it was real, but it scares me...
My friend and I went to Amsterdam for his 18th a couple of years ago, and, well, we were smoking stupid amounts at home anyway, but let loose in that city, it was insane!
So anyway, after an evening in the Grey Area (where all the great bands go when they're there) we headed back to the stupid hotel (it was this boat, right by the railway station, where all the ducks came to the window when we smoked - stoner ducks... wow!) and put on the TV.
Now as I say we'd smoked ludicrous quantities, which may explain this...
It was some US sitcom, with John Goodman living with some redhead. She started dating this, FBI guy I think he was, played by Dan Ayckroyd. Now up to this point fair enough. But then for some reason they stopped seeing each other, and he and Goodman got together.
And it was really scary, they were all wearing pink aprons and being lovey, and sneaking off to the bedroom when the redhead wasn't paying attention.
I kind of forget how it ended but, well, not much less scarily I think.
Now, my friend quite clearly watched this too. We have discussed it a few times since, in pure bewilderment, and no one else seems to have known of it's existence.
I've checked IMDB, and vagely on the web, but cannot find anything remotely matching this. And unfortunately I don't recall any title sequence whatsoever.
And it was most definitely Goodman and Ayckroyd.
So, does anyone else know of such a show?
Or, was it just some bizarre, dope induced hallucination that we both had, at the same time? It almost wouldn't surprise me - what you expect (what I was hoping for) when you buy shit called
-
God, I hate to say this but is sounds...familiar? I think, I think ...this was a skit on Saturday Night Live, because I remember that Dan Ayckroyd showed up during two of John Goodman's appearances? Maybe? There was also a very short lived sitcom where John Goodman played a ghost. I never saw that, but maybe there was some sort of contraversy about him being homosexual? I smoke too much myself, so I dunno. But it all sounds so horribly familiar.

Hmmmm. I don't think it was a SNL thing. Since it was a half hour sitcom. And it as I say it was a fairly static cast. And he certainly didn't appear to be a ghost.
Maybe I've just managed to propogate it's (non)existence through mention of it!
Nooooooooooooooooooo!
It keeps coming back to baffle me even now. I just don't understand...
And in all the rest of my time smoking, I've never hallucinated, let alone something so convincing, and shared! Just forgotten a lot of movies is all.
-
I never saw it, but John Goodman was in a short-lived show called Normal, Ohio around that time in which he played a gay dad. Brilliant.
Ever seen King Ralph make out with another dude... on weed?
-
Normal, Ohio - that's it!! That is totally what I'm talking about! And I swear to god at the end of it's short run he died and came back as a ghost. It was BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD!
-
Oh my fuck*ng god!
That is it!
Joely giraffeer is the redhead. It exists (well, in Amsterdam at least, never got shown in the UK).
Wow, you guys, knew someone here could find it.
Although, I am kind of disappointed to know that it's a real show now...
Maybe I will have to eat one of those big ass mushrooms next time I go over there.

And...
One of Pamela's old boyfriends escaped prison and a U.S. Marshall lands at her house thinking that's the most likable place the fugitive is going to show up. Butch teases Pam on the "good quality" of her boyfriends. Detective Frank Wozniak is totally obsessed about security and ticks everybody with his paranoia. He knows everything about everybody, and pretends being Pam's new boyfriend to Bill and Joan. Bill, for once, really likes Pam's boyfriend. Meanwhile, Bill, Joan, Robbie and Kimberly chase a pigeon that is inside the house. After being constantly disturbed by Frank, Butch decides to work at Elizabeth's, and there Danny finds out on the internet that the guy Frank is looking for has already been caught. Butch confronts Frank, who confesses that he only stuck around because he's head over heels about Butch. They sleep together, but Butch has to break up with him because it won't go anywhere. They end up sleeping together again, and during breakfast Bill and Joan drop by and discover the truth about whose boyfriend Frank really is. Frank breaks up with Butch and takes off in a helicopter.
That was it!
And it was, indeed, very bad. But that stoned it was bizarre enough to have just lived on...

I'm scared.

I HOPE that y'all aren't knocking the genius that is John Goodman. Ever seen a little picture called Barton Fink? I love that guy.
Plus, he's from my wife's hometown.
-
Slink, I was ready to believe your shared-hallucination theory... it happened to my best friend and I once... I told her I was watching a cartoon in the sky, and it turned out she was as well-- we described them down to minute details, and they matched up... it was quite possibly the oddest thing that's ever happened to me- even the drugs can't explain it.
As for the show, I'm hoping for a DVD reissue. Sounds intruiging.

Superb film. Possibly my favourite Coen Brothers. But then Goodman is brilliant in all the ones he appeared in. Big Lebowski for instance.
I also thought Turturro was brilliant in Fink.

It happened to me and a couple of friends on other occasions, but never because of weed. So it was understandable!
And while it was a truly bizarre show, I wouldn't recommend watching it, unless you're similairly inebriated I guess. But I doubt it will ever make a DVD release...
-
I'm not sure if this counts, but as a real, real little kid, I somehow hallucinated that "Small Wonder" and "Out Of This World" were, in fact, the same show, just with two storylines running at the same time. For years I thought I'd hallucinated both of them, but oh, I was sadly mistaken.
-
Odd, I used to think the same thing about Punky Brewster and Diff'rent Strokes.
-
I thought Parker Lewis was Ferris Bueller.
-
Cort, you're not far off. Parker Lewis Can't Lose (I loved that show) was made as a Ferris Bueller-esqe show on purpose. It's like seeing Ferris doing his magic *in* school. Brilliant.

Opps. I had meant to add "oh, wait. He kind of was." at the end.
I did love that show, though. "Note to self: find out how he keeps things frozen in his jacket."
-
If only I coudl go back to Holldan again to know what shows these all are.
Admittedly, I know of Different Strokes (though not what it is) and of course I grew up on Ferris Bueller, and Wargames and Tron and the like. And of course - John Hughes.

Everyone synchronize Swatches.

Everyone synchronize Swatches.
I would, but I got acetone on it about a year ago, and melted the back. I should have known that a plastic watch was a bad choice to wear in the lab...

Everyone synchronize Swatches.
What exactly would Achewood time be?
-
OST - Onstad Standard Time
That means when it should be "PM" it'll really be sometime in the middle of the night.
