Hypercolour Kenobi? Hypercolour... now, that's a name I've not heard in a long time. A long time.

Please note that Polly was not exactly put off by the flirtations.

Horny-onset diabetes.  Damn, I think I got that.

I never had any hypercolor. I had the matchbox cars that turned colors in warm water, but no hypercolor. Or Stussy, now that I think about it. Apparently my mom didn't shop in the kids of stores that sold Stussy back then.

This strip seems a bit recycled.

Was hypercolor the thing where your shirt was one color, and then a contrasting color where the heat from your body warmed it?  Cos that was an awesome thing and every now and again I look for it unsuccessfully.  Why don't they make that anymore?

Please note that Polly was not exactly put off by the flirtations.

This is because she is observing him as a scientific specimen. She needs to be careful not to react in any way that would affect the behavior of interest.

You sure its not just "the stripper reflex" where, to make your daily bread, you've trained yourself to react in a dimly positive manner to any and all obvious male sexual attentions? I mean, to be able to feign interest in the kind of man who regulars strip club, I can only imagine that some kind of involuntary response would have to be set up. Kind of like the "lying back and thinking of England" of "letting a trucker place a grimy five dollar bill an inch away from your pu$$y".

If you let yourself react negatively to anything, you'd basically have to react negatively to almost everything.

The naive college freshmen who are half-way attractive and shy about the matter and maybe you'd have a fling with if you were drunk have to be the exception, you know, as opposed to the general population of meth addicts who want to tell you how horrible the Vietnam War was while pawing at your tits.

There has to be a stripper reflex.

I did enjoy Ray's haircut and Stussy shirt.

I never had any Stussy clothes, but I did have my share of Bugle Boy shirts, and a couple Hypercolor ones as well.

American Apparel actually licensed the Hypercolor IP recently and put out a line of shirts with it: http://store.americanapparel.net/rsa6407tc.html#i

I almost got one recently but it is hard to justify $34 for a T-Shirt. I do love getting their tees from wholesalers on eBay for like $7 a pop though.

If she has her "stripper reflex" turned on maybe she has it turned on for Connie as well.  She seems to have forged a genuine bond with him, but maybe she is also thinking sugar daddy.  Now she's met Ray and she could be thinking sugar daddy of all sugar daddies.

Or maybe she's thinking she can have 'em both.  Connie can satisfy her intellectually while Ray spends a ton of cash on her.

I'm interested to know what Molly thinks of her.

It is interesting that you guys appear to see no connection between "observing a man's behavior like he is a specimen of scientific interest" and what a stripper does in her job. How else do you figure she decides what to do to make the most money?

Here's a film clip (http://www.americanapparel.net/storefront/movies/RSA6407TC/) of the shirt in action - at the very end, after some surrealistic behavior by young, female models/salespersons.

I think Inev will like Willa.  Except she's not wearing glasses.  They would fog up in the fridge anyway.

But a stripper applies...stimulus...shall we say in order to find a cost effective line to take. The standard stripper grindy grindy approach is a set of complex steps which are performed in sequence and observed in order to determine this cost efficient line. There is a connection between the two there, a fake one, but nonetheless.

The point is that she needs the skill to observe a man like he is a bug under the magnifying glass, whatever the stimulus or lack thereof. Polly is clearly quite practiced at this. She is being careful not to affect the subject, yet, because she hasn't finished collecting her initial data.

I like her, except right now the image of a cute girl being incredibly cold is like... the last thing I want.

Maybe if she were like, cuddling in my bed and saying "come, let me soothe you with my warm body, those chills will go away immediately."

heres a disturbing video (http://www.americanapparel.net/storefront/movies/RSA6407TC/) of american apparel putting some chick in a refrigerator to demonstrate the shirt. These had to be interns or something, given the obscenities and bizarre behavior. Cute chick, though. I'd hit it. I'd let her come over.

Did y'all see that American Apparel now has a few ads to feature actual female nipples?  This isn't very surprising I guess.

I used to really hate AA and their ad campaign.  But someone out there said something like "everyone uses sex to sell, American Apparel does it in a provocative and new way."  And I guess I can accept that.  I've just met a few too many actual L-Train uberhipsters to find that image appealing.

American Apparel is trying to use sex to sell in their ads? Aren't they the company with those obviously starving, sick, possibly homeless people whose clothes don't fit right?

We have a store right down the street, and even the mannequins in the window need a good meal, and someone to pick out a larger size for them.

Damn. I seriously just learned that American Apparel:

1) Sells non-webcomic items
2) Has ads
3) Has stores

Crazy.

Do they actually have stores, or do department stores just have their stuff?  Like, I've never been to a Land's End store, but you can get their stuff at Sears.

They have stores in very few places.
One in Charlotte, I know. We are getting one in St Louis eventually.

I like them, but also despise them.
Also apparently the common belief is that the owner of the company, Dov Charney, fucks everyone who works for him.

Yes, there is one just a few blocks from my house. If there are really only a few of them I can't imagine why they put one there.

Well, you never know when you'll need some easily-shuckable slacks at work. No shirt probably just makes the whole process simpler.

Ok, I went to the American Apparel (http://americanapparel.net/) website and it's pretty weird.  I was going to report that it's damn near pornographic and possibly innapropriate.  There is a slide show on the home page and the first images it presented were of a young girl, maybe 15-6 posing on a bed wearing very small tight shorts. Then I was shown other models wearing little clothes.

I was just about to leave when it switched to pictures of the border with Mexico at Tijuana.  Suddenly I was intrigued again.  Next series was employees of American Apparel and they were all Hispanic.  All except for one white woman who looked like a supervisor.  There were also a bunch of self portraits of "Dov."

About this time I noticed the titles which were such as "Kristen in Lauren's Old Room" and "Telephone Love" and I thought this is pretty clever, they've given it the look and feel of a flickr photostream.  It makes it appear homemade mixing in pictures of random stuff like a dude with a Chihuahua dog and a bicycle in Miami amongst the pictures of the models.  If it were actually on flickr it would fit right in and probably be hella popular.

I was just about to go again when the next series of photos began.  Entitled simply Yanyan it was grainy pictures of a young girl topless who I would hope is 18, but looks 13 or 14.  Woah, American Apparel has just cornered the perv market.

Well there you have it.  That's my walkthrough of the American Apparel website.

EDIT:  I was curious to see if American Apparel had a flickr page.  Not sure, but I did find this (http://www.flickr.com/photos/47827126@N00/329055430/) (for Wombat).

OK, associating that photo with any of that other American Apparel stuff... I think my brain is going to explode.

That's not their photo, by the way, they got it off a greeting card.

Thank God for the Onion:  they've exposed the horrors of the AA sweatshop (http://www.theonion.com/content/news/14_american_apparel_models_freed) before.

Quote from: The Onion
Still at large, FBI sources say, is the models' alleged captor, a shadowy, unkempt, elaborately facial-haired figure in his late 30s or early 40s known only as "the Creepy Man."

Knowmore.org has an extensive critique (http://knowmore.org/wiki/index.php?title=American_Apparel%2C_LLC).  More than I want to read today, at work, but it nutshells the company pretty nicely.

"Before I knew it, I was squatting on the floor in this humid room with a camera pointed at my crotch," said model Gabrielle, whose image can be found on the back page of this newspaper.

The first AA store I ever patronized was in SoHo, and was also the place I discovered my first hard copy of The Onion.  Am I some sort of late-blooming hipster freak?  Nooooooo!

Their fair production practices are so good, and their ad campaigns are so bad.  I bought a pair of pink socks at a store in Philly after walking several miles with my boyfriend with just shoes and sweaty feet. They were 8 dollars, and the store was the third one we'd passed.  At 2 dollars per blister prevention, this may have not been a cost-effective decision.
