Title: Drawing Useless Fantasy Harness While the Family Sleeps - 29 April 2009
Post by: Toaster on April 29, 2009, 07:48:12 am
So Achewood has 3 different versions of Heaven? Blister's, Beef's, and Wales? And why did Molly go to Beef's Heaven and not Wales? Ah, fuck it; I don't care.

The point is, Charlie invented the bra. Does this mean he's gonna come back to life richer than his Uncle Ray?

Also, if porn in 1676 is like Chris describes, then does that mean that people were all necrophiliacs back then? The more I learn about history, even fake history, the worse the past seems.

I don't get why bras exist. Is it entirely aesthetic, other than sports bras? I don't want to think this is true, but it probably is. Almost definitely.

And if so, why do guys get all hot and bothered about the idea of a girl not wearing a bra?

I just had an auditory flashback to 7th-grade sex ed. Video of pubescent girl, classmate points at her and sounds incredibly awkward while saying "she's... not wearing a bra."
The exact way he spaced the words out made it very obvious that this young guy was not happy about this being his line. Kind of half-laughing but stifling it, resulting in weird tone.

It's when girls look good without a bra, because they don't have that advantage.  Also then you know what she looks like and not just a bra making her look that way.

A bra obscures the nipples and stifles some of the natural bounce of a perky bosom.

It's also one fewer layer of cloth between our grabby, impatient, fumbling hands and their mysterious, soft flesh.

It's quite hysterical to watch a bunch of guys discuss why bras exist. Please carry on.

This has the ring of truth.

I do like when they bounce.

Ok, yeah, so the answer is that I am right, they are aesthetic. Damn.

I'm guessing there's a certainly level of functionality involved too.  You don't want those things floppin' all over the place -- somebody'll lose an eye.

If you've got enough that it flops around, that's not really comfortable, you know?

August wins the thread. The rest of you apparently believe that the main function of the female body is to be looked at rather than to be lived in.  It's not all about you, you know?

I owe it all to being married for 20 years and having two daughters.

I got tired of cringing and apologizing all the time, so I became at least slightly enlightened.

*A-hem*

Because corsets were a pain?

That might bespeak for a modicum of consideration for the other gender's plight, no?

And, straight from the encyclopedic knowledge:

Quote from: Wikipedia
In 1910, at age 19, Mary Phelps Jacob had just purchased a sheer evening gown for her New York society debut.[2] At that time, the only acceptable undergarment was a corset stiffened with whalebone. Polly found that the whale bones visibly poked out around the plunging neckline and under the sheer fabric. Dissatisfied with this arrangement, she worked with her maid to fashion two silk handkerchiefs together with some pink ribbon and cord.

Up to this time, women supported their bust using a corset, which sometimes was used to narrow an adult woman's waist to 17, 15 or even fewer inches.

See, that is the thing. I was asking if there was some functional purpose, and no one was answering. Wikipedia says there is a lot of argument about whether they are really necessary, other than in the case of sports bras. Thus the bra-burning and all that (although apparently no one actually burned a bra, just refused to wear one).

I just have a lot of guilt about the things we do to breasts women, or make them do to themselves, and was ready to accept blame.

Back to the strip, I hadn't noticed that Charlie was gonna sell the drawings only (My first read was way too early in the morning). Dude was selling crude-ass drawings of bras as pr0n and making a killing...

I'd be interested to know if anyone who wrote that Wikipedia article had any personal experience of wearing a bra to bring to the discussion.

Feeling guilty that women wear bras or whatever is just another way of making it all about you, by the way. We do have a choice. Women mostly dress for other women anyway, because we know you guys don't have a clue and it's other women who are judging us.

It's just this kind of wrong-headed thinking that's ruining America.

All good products have thought that's gone into their packaging.

Also: You're talking about bunless hamburgers here.  It's rare you eat a hamburger for the bun, but if the bun wasn't there, the experience wouldn't be the same.

What we really need are swine plugs.  Perhaps they could help prevent the swine flu.

That's just Vegulon propaganda. A hamburger without the bun isn't lame, it's Atkins.

I see what you did there.

Pedro just informed me that if you gents want to know why women wear bras, you should try disrobing from the waist down, spreading your knees, and flopping your testicles forward and back as vigorously as you can.

Personally, I don't recommend it.

No, he just introduced the bra to the Welsh. The bra was actually invented at the dawn of civilization in the Near East as a gift of the Assyrian king Ashur-Ba-Nipple to the Pharaoh Nefertitties.

Yes. Because it's impossible for a man to actually empathize with and understand the plight that is womanhood.

Well, that works both ways, in that I don't know why you think you have us all figured out, when "looking" at the female body, for most guys I know, would be kinda of a secondary concern/bonus type of thing...

I would say that if I have the guys "figured out" to any extent on this topic, it's because the guys all have reacted so uniformly. I am merely pointing out a generalization.

I wouldn't expect the ladies to have any better of a sense of what it's like to have the strange bodily protrusions that you guys have. Seriously, talk about something that proves that there is no such thing as intelligent design.

Hey now you gotta plug something in the socket to get the juice flowing, y'know. Form is just following function.

Internal fertilization seems like it was a good development for a lot of reasons. It's more the storage device that seems a bit problematic. Even a lot of mammals don't just leave them hanging out there so vulnerably, you know?

So what about the totally bra-less ladies who grow up in the bush and get on National Geographic?  No matter what Uncle Cecil concluded, all you do is turn on National Geographic, you can see right there what a breast will do, over time, in a bra-less state of nature.  There is major support / anti-flop function at work in the underwire.

But that begs the question.  Is the anti-flop function more for comfort, or because we (both male and female) prefer the appearance of supported breasts?  Whereas National Geographic people aren't so hung-up on it either way. Many even seem to lean more towards c*ck-supporting gourd-based fashions.

{Sorry, all I know about anthropology is from television, which I am bad at watching.}
