If any of you have any interest in the subject of global power dynamics (whose world is this, anyway?), maybe you find an interesting fact or two in this site:
http://debateolavodugin.blogspot.com.br (http://debateolavodugin.blogspot.com.br)
It's the transcription of a debate that happened not long ago, between none other than the mentor of the so-called Eurasian movement (the Russo-chinese front), Alexander Dugin, political advisor to motherfuck*ng Wladimir Putin and now his successor, Medveded, and... an obscure, ranty Brazilian philosopher called Olavo de Carvalho. The issue being debated? Nothing less than the fate of the whole world. Granted, it gets a bit... aluminum-hatty at times, but the presence of Dugin (not his ideas... but I'll let those speak for themselves), himself an influential ideological engineer for one of the strongest political powerhouses in the global arena, lends credibility to the (at first, seemingly) outrageous scenario one arrives at the end of the reading.
Edit: I should have clarified. I'm posting this here because this concerns the US a lot (the title of the debate is "The US and the New World Order"). There's a particular bit where there's something to be said for American virtues:

-
It's a bit of a slog.
-
That's true. If someone's interest in the gist of it, it would be "Russo-chinese forces vs. Islam vs. Shady centenarian metacapitalist societies behind the UN vying for world control. Oh, and they all have the US, Israel and the national sovereignty of all countries in their crosshairs".
This appears right around the beginning of this page: http://debateolavodugin.blogspot.com.br/2011/03/olavo-de-carvalho-introduction.html (http://debateolavodugin.blogspot.com.br/2011/03/olavo-de-carvalho-introduction.html)
As Americans you've probably been exposed to some version of this talk to the point of becoming jaded against it (hence my caveat abut aluminum-hattiness), but then again, it's not always that you have one of the heavy players kinda admitting that that's how things really are (while ol' Olavo hammers in fact after fact, Dugin becomes more and more shaken, his attitude becoming more and more of an interested agent than of a scientific analyst. In the end he's all but exhorting all people of the world to crush America).

Also, was anyone else aghast at this?

So ominous...

Senator Sessions is being silly, deliberately obfuscating the testimony of the witness. If Sen. Sessions had his own way, the USA would never attempt to gain NATO or UN authorization for any use of international force (as he says himself, on this video).
-
Sen. Sessions is just saying that America can do whatever it wants whenever it wants and fuck the rest of the world if they don't like it. Basically he's the asshole on the block that doesn't tell anybody that he's going to throw a party in his backyard with 300 guest and a band that, last until 4 in the morning, and tells you to go fuck yourself when you politely ask him to turn the music down, so your kids can get some sleep.
-
I'll defer to the people who are close to the issue, but I think the problem is that the President went first to the UN, instead of first reaching consensus in Congress and then going to the UN to seek the support of international allies (a rather sensible thing to do if you want their support, after all).
Now, indulge me in this: If I were to say that there are powerful people out there who want to see all of you dead, how high would you rank me in the loony rating?
-
I couldn't summarise your level of loony based on that statement alone, but I'd disagree about powerful people wanting us dead. Powerful people exploit us - without our efforts to add value to resources, they lose power.
Powerful people want to control resources, and they want us to fan them with palm fronds, get them laid, bring them a glass of milk, and so on.
