Title: Futbol Americano Verboten?
Post by: jaydub on November 22, 2012, 02:06:10 am
I'm up against the Owensboro Muttoneers this week, and can't for the life of me figure out who my opponent is

San Fran's Bitches :: c'est moi
Banana Town Beeves :: The Mayor
Magreaux Dogs :: AugustWest
Malcolm Jamal Warner :: Miles
Venomous Monkeys :: Nabu
UoP Lygars :: Ash
W-T-Jefe :: lprkn
Pwease Dun Huwt Me :: Choop's zombie
THA SUGAH RAIN :: A-CAP's zombie

Owensboro Muttoneers...lfm? Paul? Lister? One of AW's daughters?  Owensboro being in Kentucky this seems likely, but it could be someone sucking up to the commish as well...

I have never been in Owensboro and the child is not mine.

if i hadn't andre'd my team with shit trades once bye weeks started, i don't think i'd have let it turn zombie. unfortunately i didn't have the confidence to hold on to my roster as it stood, and as a result i started stinking up the field. since it isn't important to me, i haven't bothered, but hey why not at least set my lineup eh

I just realized that I'm the 2nd most active in making roster changes. I'm also in 2nd to last place. So I feel it's important to point out that when it comes to total points, I'm actually in 6th place, or 5th to last place. The head-to-head and points against measures are kind of bullshit because it's not like I can manage my roster to prepare for my opponents. Just sayin' is all.

He's my friend and colleague Greg.  It's his first experience with fantasy sports.  I'm afraid he caught on quick and took the main chance with an advantageous trade with Choop.

Brees is absolutely killing me.
Title: Re: Futbol Americano Verboten?
Post by: Choop on November 30, 2012, 06:44:40 am
i couldn't even believe that game. watching brees score less than one fantasy point was thrilling and heartbreaking at the same time (because it's my opponent this week, but it's been me before). meanwhile my kicker and defensive back WAY overperformed, and even sproles didn't do too bad considering.

jaydub i looked up our last matchup and you won 182 to 109 and kicked off my midseason losing streak. maybe this time is karma? i guess we'll find out monday night

2nd week in a row, lesson learned. Don't sit Russell Wilson just because it's an away game. There's 24 points I could have had.

Agree on all counts.

I've been very pleased with Wilson this year. I think he has a chance to become a franchise legend. We need one of those.

Jonathan Dwyer, Bryce Brown and Witten playing well over what was expected has almost made up for the rest of the team laying a total egg. I can't even be too annoyed with Brown's fumble given the rest of his performance.  Still, Choop's team is within 6, and Hakeem Nicks is still to play.  Hopefully the Washington offense will keep the Giants off the field and limit the chances Nicks has for points.

Christ almighty, I'm having a good year. On the verge of clinching a playoff spot in this league. In my other (work-based) league, I was 10-2 coming into this week, tied for first and three games up on the rest of the league. Played the team I'm tied for first with this week, and frickin' CRUSHED IT.

Of course, this means I will lose in the first round of the playoffs.

The Texans have the best record in the league at 11-1. I'm really looking forward to their game against New England next Monday.

Don't forget about the Falcons' record, also at 11-1. Sunday's game at Carolina should be good: Matt Ryan vs. Cam Newton. I'm kind of torn who to root for because of this silly game we're running.

SO CLOSE. Really, if Bennett's last completion wouldn't have been negated by a penalty, I would may have won. I can't catch a fuck*ng break in this league.

Edit: I don't want to bother to do the math so that may not be exactly correct. But it was fuck*ng close. Goddamn it.

I have to admit, every time the ball went towards 88 I was willing him to drop it.  Plus DeAngelo Hall and that amazing defensive play.  Washington neutralized Eli by keeping the Giants' offense off the field.  RG III's legend grows.

Looks like I made the right call on who to start QB today, even though combined I have less than a point. At least I'm in positive territory.

But HOLY SHIT. SEATTLE D!

I have the potential for a statement win over Owensboro tonight. Show them they're not invulnerable. Just need Tom Brady and the Patriots D to do their normal thing.

Who knew benching Joe Flacco would be such a disastrous move?  Actually, in almost every case I blew this one

Winner (Benched)    Starter
Denarius Moore beat Lance Moore
Heyward-Bey           James Jones
Matt Forte              Alex Green
Steven Jackson        Bryce Brown
Peanut Tillman         Patrick Peterson (who managed to score -3.61)

I'm pretty sure this eliminates me from the playoffs. :P

So I didn't make the right call at QB. Who would have thought Kaepernick could climb out of a 5 fantasy point deficit and put up a respectable 7.47?

Thanks to the ridiculous awesomeness of Marshawn Lynch and the Seattle defense (or the terribleness of the Arizona offense) I have a comfortable lead, but Arian Foster really scares me.
Title: Re: Futbol Americano Verboten?

Arian Foster didn't hurt anyone tonight. Tom Brady sure did some damage though.

So if I understand the league settings, and it's a good bet I don't, I need to win next week and I need THA SUGAH RAIN to lose to make the consolation round, right? And that's assuming that total points scored is the tiebreaker, and if that's true, that TSR doesn't pull out some insane 500 point victory.
Title: Shit Texans Fans Say
Post by: pmcd9 on December 11, 2012, 01:48:40 pm
This should probably go in the "Shit my ___ says" thread.

From Facebook, a friend, who is a rabid Texans fan wrote "when the playoffs come around everyone will see just how meaningless last nights game really was." You're right, dude, it's the playoff defeat that everyone will really remember.

Later, in a comment he wrote "We'll be waiting for the Patriots in Houston when it counts!." He's assuming the Texans are going to remain the top seed and have home field advantage in the playoffs. I wonder what he'll say if the Texans lose to Indy and wind up backing into the playoffs as a wildcard?

Texans fans have a high capacity for self delusion.

So our playoff field is set, with one week still in the regular season. Playoff seedings still TBD.
Owensboro, Banana Town, Magreaux Dogs, and Venomous Monkeys.

What I meant was TSR would have to put up like 500 points and still manage to lose. We'd be tied but it would come down to points.

Anyway, MJW wins, TSR loses, and then I get to play some more and maybe end up looking less pathetic.

As it is written, so it shall come to pass. My semi-final opponent in that league has Drew Brees and AP, who both had great games. Dameryius Thomas and Doug Martin, who have been great for me all season, basically did jack shit. Result: losing by 25 points. Hell and damnation.

Closer to home, though, it looks like our semi-final match-ups are set as Owensboro vs. V-Monkeys, Banana Town vs. Magreaux Dogs. Good luck y'all.

On the bright side, my starting lineup was the same as Yahoo's "optimal" lineup for the first time.  Not good enough to beat Miles' non-optimal starters though.

And to think, I benched Sherman at the last minute. Could have been a blowout. It hasn't hurt at all to have a Seahawks tilted roster the last few weeks.

Congratulations to the Owensboro Muttoneers!  You won that in a walkaway.  Even if all my best players had been playing, it wouldn't have mattered.

Dominant in the championship game as you were through the season.

Congrats also to Nabu's Venomous Monkeys, surging up from the 4th seed to win the consolation game.  Kudos.

Excellent regular seasons in both my leagues. Couldn't win a single playoff game and finished 4th in both of them. So it goes.

Hell of a season Owensboro put together, there.

Washington's nickname is really an embarrassment.  The debate seems to have died down in recent years.  Its almost a pity they didn't go further into the playoffs so it could reignite.

I think all the mascots should be racists white stereotypes. We can take it.

What have we got now, the 49ers, Texans, Cowboys, Patriots. Are there any others I'm missing?

The Jets? That's the white street gang from West Side Story. The Steelers, Packers? I guess a steel worker and a meat packer isn't necessarily white, I don't know. Those are both blue collar jobs. Raiders? What is a raider, a pirate? I guess that's not exclusively a white thing either. Oh well.

Man, fuck*ng girls/new relationships when they are just the best thing ever.

I have hated the Broncos my whole life.  I live in Denver.  New girl is a big Broncos fan.  Instinctively/at my core/or whatever I want the Broncos to win today more than any team since I was a kid, only so she will be happy.  It is weird.  Oh, I have also hated Peyton Manning even more than the Broncos his whole career.

Also, I watched the second half of the national championship game and the second half of the cotton bowl while I was running at the gym.  I had forgotten that both were on (I don't watch any tv anymore, not as like a principle, just cause I am busy and tired, so it is hard to remember shit is on.  I also don't have cable, but can easily get live streams online), but when I saw the bowl games those where the games I wanted to see, so I was excited to see them at the gym.  Let me tell you, as a big Notre Dame and Oklahoma hater (and OU alumni!) those games were fuck*ng great to run to.  I had just the biggest smile on my face the whole time.  People probably thought I was a freak.

Oh, and also, that crazy Alabama interception by Haha Clinton-Dix showed the difference between those teams and also helped me realize something awesome.  I am not a Saban supporter or detractor (I have probably seen 2.5 games he's coached, and that is probably spread out over 4 games), but his player had literally no fear of bodily injury or any other ill thing that could have happened to him on that play, while the Notre Dame player ducked.  Clinton-Dix literally would have killed himself to make an interception in a game that his team was comfortably leading/completely dominating (somewhere between those two) at the time.  I don't necessarily respect putting your talents into getting people to do that type of stuff, especially for something as silly as football, but Saban must be a crazy good motivator and just living your life day to day with the same principles is a powerful thing that I have been trying to do.  It works and makes your life way better, so I am always looking for more ways to motivate myself in the right direction- positivity, lack of fear, being extremely healthy (at least in diet, if it's not going to happen in drugs/cigarettes).  I have found two awesome examples in college football with that particular play and with Bill Snyder's 13 tenants or whatever they are called.  No Personal Limitations (stolen from snyder) is essentially the only motivator I need, but it is nice to have more examples.

I guess I have just been on a go out and get it kick, and it is awesome when i see other people doing that, no matter what the situation is.

I watched the game since I have a working TV again for the first time in a couple years and figured why not. I enjoyed it more than I was expecting, really. (It helped that I was online with some Baltimore/DC friends at the time.)
