You know The Flash? Infantino designed him.
You know Batgirl? Infantino created her.
You know how Batman was a ridiculous cornball comedy for a while, and then he was the World's Greatest Detective? Infantino was a major part of that changeover.
You know the thing super-fast characters in comics do where it's just an elongated blur with stripes of their color design? Infantino created that.
Also a ton of other stuff that only huge comics nerds will care about. The dude spent like 50 years in comics including some of the most influential points, and he died today. So, yeah.

Someone I follow on Twitter mentioned this while everyone else was talking about Roger Ebert dying and I wasn't in a position to look up who the heck it was and forgot. Now it makes sense that that was the only guy who mentioned it.

This is one of those things that it's surprising to learn was invented.

Golden Age speedsters had motion lines behind them, sometimes with blurry humanoid silhouettes in them. When the Flash was re-envisioned in the Silver Age with Infantino penciling, he came up with the "red bodysuit with a few yellow highlights" design and the thing where there was a long red streak behind him with yellow stripes at the level of his belt and earpieces, along with having the trail stretch off into the distance or turn and bend to indicate long and complex paths that the Flash was running in the space of a single panel/instant.

Can I also say, as a New York Italian myself, they don't make names like "Carmine Infantino" anymore.

Pouring out a 40 for my homie Carmine!

There are some spectacularly old-world-ethnic names in my family. The most recent being my uncle Gonzalo. All my cousins in Chile are named Ignacio, which is pretty great. Ignacio Barahona Aguilera. Nice.
My grandma on the other side was named after her Italian neighbor-- Ornetta. Wow. She got made fun of for having such a weird name. Suffice to say, the rest of her family have names that sound like leprechaun jokes.
Then they married dudes with super bland names. So now I have my name, which I tell people is a perfect firm handshake name. Three syllables, not super common but not weird or distinctive. Look the guy with this name in the eye and give him a job.
Names are cool.

This is making me think of Monty Python's "Bruces" skit.
"Is your name not Ignacio?"
"No, it's Daniel."
"Oh, that'll cause some confusion. Mind if we call you Ignacio?"

Dang, ol' Carmine finally merged with the speed force.
Here's a song (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMe1qlyuMXQ) by his nephew. I think Carmine drew the album cover as well.
