Good Lord, the super bowl ads have become sentient.

This is totally odd on so many levels. First, why would it make you want to buy a brand of beer? And second it looks so fake that they could almost be computer animation but I guess it's because the animals are just as made-up as human actors are. No hoss or puppy is ever that clean and brushed in real life.

I never watch commercials so maybe there is an element of culture shock here, your mileage may vary.

the brand is well-known enough that all they're aiming for is the name association with the sports game, they don't need to try to get people to choose their specific brand. there hasn't been a coca-cola ad that was like "try coke, you'll like it" in oh thirty years. coke and pepsi, bud and miller, mcdonald's and taco bell, these brands only pretend to compete with each other. and the more ad time they buy up, the higher they drive the price of the ads, putting exposure to that audience further out of the hands of the actual quality products that are trying to compete, like new belgium beers, rc cola, and any decent local restaurant. it's economic imperialism.

What's wrong with Taco Bell?

According to Demolition Man, the fast food wars will be won by Taco Bell.

i worked a summer at taco bell, opening the store with a few others before lunch started. i could start listing things wrong with taco bell, but my main point had nothing to do with anything being wrong with taco bell. it would be nice if they had competition outside california, because it might improve their food quality. anyway, the point is that they can be as awful as they care to be because they aren't actually competing with the other fast food joints on the national stage. people want cheap tacos fast, they hit up taco bell. people want a spicy chicken sandwich, they hop over to wendy's. mcdonald's does nuggets, and burger king does ...something. everybody who eats fast food has the burger they like, just as coke and pepsi don't compete because anybody who drinks a cola prefers one over the other, and it's exceeding rare for one to switch from coke to pepsi or vice versa, or care naught which they're served. it doesn't necessarily make sense, it's based on what was in the fridge during childhood or some other external excuse for brand loyalty, another symptom of commercial imperialism.

fuck me, it sounds like i put out some kind of crypto-anarcho-socialist newsletter that's only available for free and delivered by hand because i don't trust any corporation not to quash my message

But it's got that damn "Only know you love her when you let her go" song in it.

For a while there, the Lumineers' "Ho Hey" had the record for "fastest time between the first time I heard a song and I was completely sick of it." Only to be surpassed lately by the aforementioned song, and then the one that says "Say something I'm giving up on you" over and over and over again.

The 2000s have made me immediately suspicious of anything with whistling, glockenspiel, toy piano, and especially all three.

Not so heartwarming behind the scenes apparently.

Kind of funny (http://www.avclub.com/article/nobody-cares-that-you-dont-care-about-the-super-bo-200983?utm_source=Facebook&utm_medium=SocialMarketing&utm_campaign=LinkPreview%3A1%3ADefault) to write a long, angry article about how you "don't care" about people who don't watch the superbowl. And also say that they ruin your appreciation of the game. That seems like you're actually saying... you do care? a lot? for some reason?

Yeah, that's a bizarre article. I liked the part about the grad student tweeting about reading Proust, but it's weird that he's so angry.
