This can be our all purpose thread to ask about members who haven't been posting lately.
I'm posting today where is Slink? I guess he got that job and doesn't have time to post anymore.
~Paul
-
He was just here in some boring thread about computer things.
But this makes me think how if one were really pathetic, one could stop posting for a while and see how long it took for one's absence to be noted. Not that I would ever think of doing this myself, nosiree.
-

~Paul
Hah. No, didn't get that job. Which sucks. But I have other things to do instead now.
No, I just got back from a conference in London last night, and haven't really reacclimbatised yet, enough to get involved in all the threads happening at the moment, so will be back in the loop in a day or two.
Nice to know I can be missed! I think...
-
Yeah, whatever happened to ritchie_dagger?
P.S. Sorry you didn't get the Rockstar job, Slink.
-
Yeah, whatever happened to ritchie_dagger?
Are you really wondering this, Jough? Or did you just check the list? Because I think ritchie_dagger is ELL from Dumbrella - he only posted here like the first day, IIRC.
I want to know where Vinz Clortho is?
Well, and Nice Jough and evildunston, but that's just for the steel-cage deathmatch; it can wait.
-
Vinz Clortho just sort of insta-bombed off the face of the earth. But I wonder, too.
-
Vinz Clortho just sort of insta-bombed off the face of the earth. But I wonder, too.
That's a shame; I liked his avatar.
-
Man, I wonder where TomJ went...
-
Jough, you promised a Return of Satchel...
-
Where the hell is JL? I know she has the wedding up in DC this week but I haven't seen her in quite some time.
-
Jough, you promised a Return of Satchel...
He lied to me... through SONG! :(
-
Where the hell is JL? I know she has the wedding up in DC this week but I haven't seen her in quite some time.
JL won't be coming back. She has a serious life problem which demands her full attention.
-
So what happens to the field trip?
-
:/
Cripes.
-
JL won't be coming back. She has a serious life problem which demands her full attention.
The subtle tone of finality there is just awful. This is a damn shame. I know I haven't been around as long as most of you, but I thought JL was just a terrific individual, and she'll be missed.
I really hope everything works out for the best.
-
Do not mess around with us, Jough, or you won't get to see the mole rats. Or the steam tunnels.
-
Oh, very well.
JL was I believe on vacation visiting family. I haven't heard from her in a few days but I assume she's fine and just offline.
-- Jough, who just returned from purchasing a very snappy steam-tunnel friendly new outfit.
-
Oh, very well.
You goddamn, dirty, sonofabitch!
Dear me.
I only left it at cripes 'cause I suspected, as I tend to, that you were fuck*ng with us.
-
If our dear JL was really leaving, don't you think I'd make more of a mention of it than a single fast reply buried in a thread?
There's be much wailing, gnashing of teeth, rending of garments, I assure you.
-

See now I thought it was like a death in the family or some such and that she'd be back eventually, just not right away.
And let's face it, Jough with no JL to keep him in check is frightening indeed.
-

Cool! Can I rend Wombat's garments?
-
Hands off, Cretin. I have plans for that one. Steam-tunnel plans.
-
Hands off, Cretin. I have plans for that one. Steam-tunnel plans.
If I had mod powers in this forum I would totally add <zorak> tags to that post.
-
All I can add to this is, oh man, I love the Internet. It is so much better than my real life.
-
Is there a thread here that hasn't at least partially gone over to the discussion of steam-tunnel zoo-sex?
And yea. If only my life had an edit button!
-
Well, this thread right over here this way (http://achewood.plagiarist.com/viewtopic.php?p=11406#11406) never got into steam-tunnel zoo sex, but it did go somewhere nobody every foresaw.
Edit: What a lousy first-on-next-page post. FONPP? Whatever.
-
Well, this thread right over here this way never got into steam-tunnel zoo sex, but it did go somewhere nobody every foresaw.
Oh. Crap. Yea, I guess I have no right to complain, eh.
Doh.
-
Is it bad that my first connection with the idea of a steam-tunnel-friendly garment is the stuff that people tend to play D&D in in Chick tracts and such -- feathered hats and weird cloaks and stuff?
'cause, you know, steam tunnels and D&D dorks and such.
I myself tend to play in a T-shirt and jeans.
-
I don't think I've seen a Chick tract with D&D mentioned, although of course I'd be surprised if Jack Chick didn't find anything having to do with magick to be e-vil and the work of the De-vil.
-

Dark Dungeons. (http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/0046/0046_01.asp) Read and thrill! Inaccurate from the first page, in which women make up four of the seven at the table.
-
Now, the question becomes—if a person "innocently" works an authentic ritual that conjures up a demon, or curses someone; thinking that they are only playing a game-might not the ritual still have efficacy? I think we know the answer to that question.
He's convinced me. I'm burning all of my old AD&D (2nd ed.) books tonight.
-
I have no idea who Jack Chick is, but I want to make it perfectly clear that no one dressed in a cloak and feathered hat gets anywhere near my steam tunnels.
-
He's convinced me. I'm burning all of my old AD&D (2nd ed.) books tonight.
AD&D was never as good as the original, but then I moved off both fairly fast anyway.
The only liveaction I played was GURPS Star Wars, and that was, well, amusing. No steam tunnels, just student unions at night.
Nothing like pretending an SU bar is Mos Eisley Space Port and that the spotty nerd opposite you is an evil bounty hunter.
-
in which women make up four of the seven at the table.
Exactly what's always amused me so much about the Chick tracts forbidding "that sort of thing". I mean, more so than Chick tracts generally amuse me, which is a lot.
-
So yea, where is side_show?
I'd been going to talk to her about the conference but I ain't seen her around none.
-
Hmmmmmm...yeah, where is old Smells, anyhow? It's been a while.
-
A story:
One of my friends was talking to yet ANOTHER one of my friends, and mentioned how he had just been diagnosed with ADD (Attention Defecit Disorder..i think). The other friend paused for a moment and asked, "Advanced Dungeons and Dragons?"
And that is why the other friend is the coolest person ever.

During high school, when I was playing AD&D fairly frequently, my mother almost always referred to it as "ADD" -- as in "you'll be playing ADD at Micah's house, right?" or "Andy from your ADD group called." This might not have been quite as funny if it hadn't been that so many of my fellow players did have ADD in one form or another.
-
Back in my day, kids didn't have ADD -- they played it.
And we liked it!

Bumpage.
I emailed St_Zartan last night, and will notify you if I receive any reply. I'm thinking, though, if we all email pleas for his return, he might just come back - it's been over a month since his last post.
-
Some people are gone because I may or may not have killed them, but they were the unimportant people, and the voices in my head said it was ok. The voices didn't tell me to do it, they just said it was cool.
-
I am now officially soooo glad the mail I sent you had a PO box as a return address.
Safe mailing is key!
-
Zartan! We miss your witty banter and obscure Backyard Wrestling references!
Come back, Zartan! Come back!
-
Zart just emailed me back this morning, and suffice it to say he's been swamped at school and feeling various and sundry other pressures. Now he's done for the summer, and plans to catch up to the board realsoonnow.
-

Excellent.
I can rest easy for now, and await his triumphant resurrection.

Hoody hoo, indeed. Hail to Zart, who shall be funny hereafter!

NO PRESSURE OR ANYTHING
According to the "Respect in the Workplace" seminar I attended last week (which was rounded off by like four hours of "Company Feud" and "Wheel of Knowledge" (http://www.learningware.com/gameshow/)), the stale retort "if I told you, I'd have to kill you" is officially Not Funny Anymore and has been reassigned to the far sexier "Potentially Actionable For Assault" category. Which sort of blows any plans I had for a lazy one-sentence apologia.
Choop called it, though, and just as soon as I read like four thousand posts I'll be screeching my way right back to the Signal : Noise Hall of Fame (http://www.chubbychecker.com/letter.html).

That is the funniest faux markup tag in the History of the Internet.
Catch "History of the Internet" repeated five times a day on TechTV.

According to the "Respect in the Workplace" seminar I attended last week....
Ha, if there's one thing a workplace should lack, it's respect. Today, I had to go to work at 10 in the morning on my day off so that someone could take pictures for a press package. This meant that I ended up wearing spandex ##### and a silver raver shirt, blowing bubbles from a phallic bottle, standing in a damn parking lot with 7 or so other luckless fools, for no pay. On the way back in, one of my bosses, a 50 year old woman who offered to show me her clit piercing, smacked me on the ass. Also, I found out today that another one of my bosses has a picture floating around the internet of her, shot from behind, topless, wearing a garter belt, and with her wrists bound. I can't help but feel that if respect entered into my workplace, I'd probably quit.
-
Bozack has the best job ever. Ever.
-
I can't start to comment on Bozack's job other than stating that it's a good thing I don't work there.
Also, that Chubby Checker really thinks a lot of himself, doesn't he...

Oh yeah, nothing is more reassuring than deferred ambivalence. I'm going to skip the not-quite-fully-formed crack I had lined up about gift hosss and mouths, big bleeding gaping ones &c.

Dude, I have no pride whatsoever. PM me the link.

Don't be shy, post it on up right here in this fora.

Hahaha, sigh, OKAY. Here's a picture of my boss:
Yeah. That's what I THOUGHT.
-
That is certainly the hottest picture entitled "shovel-angle" I have ever seen. How old is this woman again?
-
Speaking from an entirely heterosexual-female perspective...
PROPER.
-
Hahaha, sigh, OKAY. Here's a picture of my boss:
Yeah. That's what I THOUGHT.
Well, I suppose the photographer might have done all sorts of tricks with the camera to make her look hot, but yea, she's a MILF. What's her phone number?
-
Hey Mantonio, is your avatar supposed to look like that?
-
Ha, because I live in constant fear of being fired, I can't actually say whethe or not I find my boss EXTREMELY MIND-NUMBINGLY ATTRACTIVE. All I have to say is, I'd be down with her daughter knowing me as "Uncle Bozack."
-
Um, Bozack, where else do you work beside Lynn's? 'Cause that doesn't look like any picture of Lynn Winter I've ever seen.
-
Hey Mantonio, is your avatar supposed to look like that?
You mean the singing giraffe? Yea, it was the smallest one I could find on Google.
-
Um, Bozack, where else do you work beside Lynn's? 'Cause that doesn't look like any picture of Lynn Winter I've ever seen.
Ha, t'aint Ms. Winter, who actually is literally never at Lynn's. It's one of the managers. The picture is really good because one of my coworkers is a part-time photographer, and routinely does free pictures for people for the portfolio experience. So, somewhere, there's a binder with nude pictures of about 8 of the Lynn's staff. Just think on that.
-
I don't know anything about this Lynn's place, but could you send me those pictures?
-
That woman can smack my ass any time.
-
When I was first scrolling down I didn't realize those little black things were bows and I thought she had black X's over her nipples. Does that mean there's something wrong with me?
-
Does that mean there's something wrong with me?
Nope, something right.
-
I thought so, too - but that may be left over from W.O.W.

Where is PMCD9? It's not like him to be away from the board for so long. I wonder what's up with him?

This is where I would insert the ":tiny cymbals playing an accompaniment to the violin:" emoticon if such a thing existed.

Where is EVERYBODY????
What do you people have LIVES or something?!
-
I was wondering the same thing!
-
I'm kind of in a state of semi-residence.
I am around, but only partially for a while. I'm sorting things out for the big plan and will be commencing recording of my album proper, in but a week or two maybe. So I'll be dropping in but not really around so much as usual. I can still weild ungodly powers at The Conservatory though, and will be in a musical mind so pedantism will clash with laze and business.
-
I'm back today, sort of. I spent the weekend drinking heavily (and sleeping it off) in celebration of passing my PhD final on friday. I should now be busy making all the required corrections to my dissertation. But I'm here. For a minute, anyway.
-
I've been waiting for other people to say things that I can respond to in a humorous manner.

Wow! Congrats!
What was the topic of your dissertation?

Many congratulations to sjlimmer and to slink!

Come now, what would happen if we all did this?
Congratulations, sjlimmer!

Congratulations to sjlimmer and slink!
I have not been so gloriously occupied; mostly I've been conscripted by my mother to help pack, which is keeping me busy in the pursuit of moving things from one box to another. Excitement!
-
I've been waiting for CortJstr to say something funny to which I may respond.
-
A buddy had the wife and I out to his lakehouse, along with umpteen other people. The party didn't get started really until it was time for us to leave - we're like the only ones there who have to work tomorrow morning. The midnight boat ride was especially nice.
Congrats all around to any who deserve them!
-
I've been waiting for CortJstr to say something funny to which I may respond.
I'd get comfy because you won't be posting for a loooooong time.
Oh, and I've been dealing with computer issues again. The new ZoneAlarm sucks ass and conflicts with many other programs so I had to ditch it.

Good call being lazy on my part then!

I divided my weekend among three activities:
1. Sleeping.
2. Chasing my daughter.
3. Going to stores to figure out what to do inside this house we just bought.
I also spent a lot of time worrying about guitar parts for the recording project I'm embarking on in two weeks - worrying was all I could do while chasing my daughter around stores.
So I guess that makes two of us in this thread getting ready to make an album.
-
My weekend was similar to Limmo's: sleeping, playing with my cute freakin' kid, packing for the upcoming move, and cooking.
Also, if I check in here on my home computer, it immediately marks all posts as read, so I don't know what I missed. So I wait until I'm back in the office to come visit.
-
Now what who? I spent the weekend putting the finishing touches on my new album with Axl Rose. Also putting up artwork in my new home. Congrats to everyone, deserving or not.
-
Our ISP has been flaky ("intermittant connectivity," the self-righteous tech support bitchboy informed us) and blanked out completely this past weekend, so Pedro and I went and rediscovered the outside world. After our eyes re-adjusted to the excessive levels of ultraviolet radiation that blankets your world, we hit the mall and spent five hours shopping for a completely new summer wardrobe for me. It seems that after losing twenty-five pounds, none of my old clothes fit...I had dresses in my closet that I couldn't possibly wear to church because they would fall right off. So five dresses, three skirts, a pair of jeans, a blouse, and a $10 pair of shoes later, I've managed to round out my wardrobe without overstuffing my (rather small) closet or breaking the bank.
My darling, wonderful, patient husband accompanied me, waited outside every dressing room (with a GameBoy, but patiently nonetheless) and gave me his honest yet tactful opinions on every one of the approximately seven billion outfits I tried on. I'll tell you what, guys, if you want to score points with your woman, tell her that dress makes her butt look big before she buys it.
Now that I have decent-looking "skinny clothes," I can finally take some "after" photos. I should probably lose that last five pounds first, but I'm so close to my goal that I don't think that last five will make that much of a difference, appearance-wise. I'm within my "ideal zone" now so that's what counts, no?
-

So you're the reason the album (http://www.heretodaygonetohell.com/releases/newalbum.htm) hasn't been released yet! fuck*ng hurry up!!

Because of godawful weather that has essentially made the Bluegrass State its BITCH, I just got power back after two days without. Now, I'm gorging myself on everything I missed. Apparently, the main thing I missed was my ex-girlfriend telling me how great her new man is, so right now I'm stuffing my face with that.
Sigh.
-

Man, what the hell possesses people to do that? Bitterness, I'm sure, but it's just vile behavior. Vile, I say.

......After I made the original comment, she proceeded to tell me how big her new boyfriends tool is, and how amazing the sex is. Then she acted suprised that I got pissed off. Well, I'm officially never talking to her again, and I got mad enough I learned how to play "Steppin' Stone" (Minor Threat version) on the guitar in about 12 seconds flat.
So at least those are like two good things.
-
Ye gods, that is one un-classy girl.
It's ok Bozack, we still think you're neat.
-
I have also been busy sleeping and chasing Limmo's daughter.
That was you? Sorry about the shiner.
Yeah, no problem. I'm fine. Really.

The next song you should learn is "Never Talking To You Again" by Husker Du. Sing it to yourself as a reminder whenever you feel like talking to an ex-girlfriend.

Oooh, yes, this is delightful! I shall have to put this on my "I Hate You" mixdisc, along with "Steppin' Stone" and "Salome," by the Old 97's.

While I normally hold reservations about Revenge Mixdiscs*, this seems like a totally justifiable one to me. It sounds at least as justifiable as the other two I've given a pass to, "Fuck You, My Entire Dorm" (by a friend of mine in the worst dorm ever) and "Fuck You, Venal Suitemate, Have Some Goddamn Van der Graaf Generator" (by me).
Holy crap, is that an unclassy ex. World-non-class, as it were. I've been on the other side of this a few times ("thank you for not being as gigantic a psycho hose beast as my last ex"**), but I cannot possibly imagine a context by which raving about the size of her new guy's tool would be even vaguely appropriate. Yech.
* They tend to get dicey when you actually intend to send a copy to the ex, for instance. Improper.
** Although I am not sure I could be as much of a psycho host beast as this particular ex even if I tried. (http://www.hanneblank.com/main/faq.htm)

I recommend "You're Gonna Miss Me Baby" by Thirteenth Floor Elevators.
It's what Cusak played at the beginning of High Fidelity.

Oh, Venal Suitemate and I had a downright intimate acquaintance with "Killer" throughout April:
MY SPEAKERS: *horrible prog song about sharks*
ME, SINGING ALONG: o/` Cause you CAN'T have TWO KILLERS! Living in the same PAAAAAAAADD!! o/`
SUITEMATE: (through two doors) SHUT UP!!
ME: (throw bird vaguely in his direction, keep singing) o/` And when YOUR MOTHER knew that her TIME had COME, she was really rather GLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAD!! o/`
In retrospect, I could probably have been tried for war crimes, but...

I was speculating as to the chair having eaten Paul. Or maybe something hidden in the chair. Imported, illegally, unbeknownst to all. Highly poisonous, possibly mutated.
X-Files plotline yada yada Paul all fettered and zombie like trying to exist pandimensionally ... internet ... brainstem...
I won't even begin to think about I Hate You mix ideas, I'd be here all week digging out playlists.

I won't even begin to think about I Hate You mix ideas, I'd be here all week digging out playlists.
Niche mix challenges are dangerous things indeed. I was once in a mixswap where my partner decided that all the songs on each of our CDs were to be about water... This appalled me until I went through my howevermanythousand mp3s and actually came up with 30 or so plausible candidates and had to eliminate some.
Three off the top of my head, for this one:
No Children, by the Mountain Goats
Idiot Wind, one of my favourite Bob Dylan songs and a damn good breakup song: perhaps not as much so as Don't Think Twice, but it's got that Blood on the Tracks goodness.
I Still Miss You, by Arab Strap. Despite the title, probably the most vitriolic breakup song I've ever heard.
And some Hella's always good on angry mixes.
-
X-Files plotline yada yada Paul all fettered and zombie like trying to exist pandimensionally ... internet ... brainstem...
Aw jeez. Are we going to have to go rescue him? I hate it when that happens.
-
ME: (throw bird vaguely in his direction, keep singing)
Umm, throwing birds are we? What kinds of birds? Like badminton bird, or tweet, tweet bird?
Er, I probably should have typed "flipping the bird" -- you know, impolite gesturing? That sort of thing.
I have way too many good breakup songs sitting around (it comes from liking TMBG and Moxy Fruvous, who both have just tons), but my few off-the-cuff Bad Breakup Mixdisc Choices:
Black Hole, Raised By Wolves (http://www.raisedbywolvesmusic.com) -- starts slow, gets angrier
TMBG: I've Got a Match and They'll Need a Crane, among others
Fruvous: Hate Letter is obvious, and BJ Don't Cry is fairly solid too. Love Set Fire is better for your more philosophical-type breakups.
-
Sigh, I guess I'm going to have to make one now? And send out a couple?
Yeah, maybe Paul's head exploded when he realized that I'm a bad internet friend. He keeps sending me awesome CDs and I keep adding to the pile of CDs that have to get sent down South to him, but I NEVER SEND THEM. This is because I'm a BAD PERSON.
-
So where is Paul, anyway?
-
If you play "I'm So Tired" from the Beatles White Album backwards it tell you "Paul is dead"!

And if you turn the cover for Magical Mystery Tour upside down, the word Beatles looks like a phone number. Call it, and get details regarding Paul's death!

Here's what you'll hear when you call:
I have browser problems. I don't know why or how, but 3 websites [the message board being one] won't load in either IE or Firefox. Every other site works fine. I don't have a clue how to fix it. If one of the tech savvy people on the board has any advice it would be much appreciated.

Alright, this is actually Paul's response to an email I sent him this morning. If anyone has tips on how to get him back here, email them to him.

Oh, I may have 'accidentally' banned his IP on the server. Oops.
If you can PM me the IP he used to e-mail you I can track him down. Otherwise I'll never get e-mail from him.
-
Way to go jough - I hope you know you ruined Christmas!

How does such a thing happen?
-
Well, 'accidentally' was in quotes, after all.
And he says that he's having problems with other sites too - so it's probably not even that.
I told him to delete his cache, send me his cash, delete his cookies, bake me some cookies, force reload (ctrl+refresh in IE, or shift+reload in a real browser), force himself to unload, and then to go free that little boy who always seems to show up half-naked in creepy poses in the photos he posts here.
LET THE LITTLE BOY GO, PAUL
Then your internet will work. It's karmic.
-
My position on parenting is this: if you love something, let it go, and if it comes back to you, it's yours. Therefore, when my child is about 9, I'm going to just leave it at the mall. If I ever see it again, I'll truly know that I was meant to be a parent, instead of the dude who works in the Food Court Tumbleweed.
-
I'm trapped in a circle of hell reserved for anti-social, shy people who dislike their families. Yup - I drove 20 hours in one day to hang out with the extended step-family for a week. Whooptie shit. Needless to say, my computer time has been limited.
Luckily, I'm outta here tomorrow, and I'll swing by the (soon-to-be-live-in) boyfriend's on Tuesday. Gettinglaidsville, population: me - here I come!
-
Where is PAUL??? Someone DO something!
-
I'm with wombat on this one. This is most distressing. Jough, I'm looking at you and your IP-blocking powerz.
-
I unblocked all of the previously blocked IPs and it didn't solve Paul's problem.
He just needs to learn how to use his PC.
Zang!
-
This is probably more heading-off-at-the-pass, of its egotistical sort, but...
I'm going to be going on a hiatus soon, ranging anywhere from the rest of the week to two or three, depending how the cards end up. (We're moving, and I have very little control of how quickly I'll be able to get stable Internet access again; hopefully I'll be able to cheat, and with luck I'll be able to be back on a semi-regular basis by this weekend, but it's still up in the air.) If my posting becomes sporadic or nonexistent, know that it's that and that I'm not dead.
-
I am too going to go on a hiatus of sorts; it's Bonnaroo tyme, brothers! 5 friends and I, a enormous conversion van, several tents and about a billion awesome bands. I'll have my laptop with me, and there's probably going to be some sort of wireless thing going on...Oh, by the by, does anyone know how a Mac would work with a wireless network? I've got Airport Extreme and Bluetooth, is there any other wireless adaptor I may need for common wireless? I know this should go in the Billiards Room, but I'll start a thread up there if I get more than one response. DANKE.

Pedro and I have a wireless network in our home, to which he has his iBook connected, but I couldn't begin to tell you how it's set up. Try PMing him; he should get back to you sometime tomorrow.
Meanwhile, it appears to be the week of hiatuses. (Hiatii? Hiatum? Again, with the Latinesque endings.) I'm having houseguests Thursday thru Sunday, and will be around rather more sporadically 'til then.
But I will be here.
-
Ah, good luck everyone on your forays into the real world. I should take one of those, what with my exams being next week, but I remain stubbornly non-stressed.
-
I should be on anti-hiatus this weekend. What with the office being closed Friday for the Reagan thing and the terrible traffic keeping my ass firmly at home.

-
Again with the barbed c*ck! Seriously, it's time to let that particular joke die a horrible death.
-
WHAT THE SAM HELL DID YOU KIDS DO WHILE I WAS GONE
HOLY CRAP WE CAN'T HAVE NICE THINGS
(Read: Back-ish. Expect me more on Friday, but at least I can post on an occasional basis.)
-
Where is Nabubrush? I don't remember him posting anything about buying a man-eating chair.

Well he does drink a lot so maybe he's just been sleeping one off for the past couple of weeks.
-
Yeah, doesn't he man a radar station in Alaska or something?
-
As I understand it, he works at an oil rig or pipeline station (or somewhere else oily and remote) for weeks at a time, then spends weeks at a time in Portland with his girlfriend. I can understand sporadic posting.
