MIT student Amal Dorai proposes (http://www-tech.mit.edu/V124/N18/dorai18.18c.html) the following constitutional amendment:
“Upon the ratification of this Amendment, Bill Watterson will be jailed for 15 years, or until he has produced 5000 additional ‘Calvin and Hobbes’ strips.”
C&H is not a web comic, but upon passage of this amendment, new strips could conceivably be posted somewhere on a web page.

My first reaction was, Yes!
But then what if the strips were terrible? What if he was right that it was time to stop? We'd all be so sorry to have spoiled it.

I am generally inclined, in the wake of a society of cartoonists who have no the hell idea when to stop producing, to respect one guy's decision to stop on his own. C&H ended with a bang, not a whimper -- IMHO, it went out as respectably as it ever could.

Let's go exploring!
