Title: Fugue magazine spread
Post by: ancience on April 20, 2004, 05:27:11 am
Hey everyone:

In response to the news bit that Fugue Magazine has a spread of Achewood and interview with CO, I ordered the magazine, and I will put up the scanned article in its entirety as soon as I get it.

I hate to be a spoilsport, but it would really be wrong to do this without asking permission.  Those people will never be able to get their magazine off the ground if you give their content away for free.  And remember how many thousands of hits Jough said this board gets?

The magazine business is hard.  Most writers and artists of all kinds don't make a living at it, much less get rich. People who want to interview Onstad should be people we want to support. Please don't steal their stuff and give it away.

Well. Post it for me since I can't get it and wouldn't be able to if I could!

This is a good point. Tell you what: if I enjoy the content (or otherwise appreciate its existence), I'll see what I can do about getting a copy or otherwise contributing to the magazine.

Thanks, Wombat, for beating me to this.  You're absolutely right.  Hereabouts, we like to keep things safe & legal.  Jough's particularly touchy about copyright infringement, and I don't like making people sad.  How's about providing a link to Fugue's website so we can obtain our own copies if we so desire?

my immediate response to this thread was, wtf is "fugue".

so, i googled "fugue magazine".
http://www.fuguemagazine.com

i thought, that's odd, i was here recently, and i can't remember why.  i think it had to do with Pixies reunion tour, someone linked to an article or something.  or, it was an article on a honeynet.  regardless, i remember that i got there and closed down because the link was dead.

second thought was:  is this a magazine?  do they think i'm going to send them CASH MONEYS because they are mysterious and cool with a "k"?

maybe i'm getting older, or maybe i'm just too much of a dork, maybe i've never been artsy, maybe i'm just too mid-west at heart,

or maybe the maintainers of that company's site are braindamaged from head trauma suffered at a young age and have no idea that not everyone knows what it is that they are.

ARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!

Must be that rampant capitalization thing they're doing.   That can be very disconcerting, in a making prose much easier to read kinda way.

Not letting it drop.

cradle it, gently, like an egg, and one day it may hatch into something beautiful.

in the other hand, show where the website in question has prose?

My general thought: the website is pretentious, but I'm not sure I can actually generalize anything about its content. I'm generally reminded of Beef and Molly's commentary on McSweeney's, (http://www.achewood.com/index.php?date=06302003) but I'm still tempted to give it a try.

You can't reprint anything from a copyrighted source here without permission except a brief, well-cited excerpt.

However, seeing that Fugue has only ONE issue, and they put no content on their web site to entice me to spend my money, I have no desire to send them any.

Fuck Fugue.  Fuck them in the face!

what process did you go through to find that page?

edit-
seeing jough's comment, it's even funnier now.
from your link, august, "an intelligent, content-driven magazine".

and even more brane-hurtingly dumb, they made that text into an image, and that image a link, a link to their main page, the main page that has no way i can find of getting to their "whatisfugue page".

nice.

No, Onstad mentions the Fugue magazine spread (spread?) on Achewood.com's home page.

I kept clicking on the pictures until I got there.  The pictures were an astounding mix of pretense and college hi-jinx.

comparing your amount of patience to mine, would be like comparing a huge amount of patience to a tiny bit of patience.

to be honest, i did click on the pictures for a bit.  and got bored with wasting bandwidth, and figured they would continue ad nauseum (i was right) if not ad infinitum (apparently i was wrong on that account).

oh, and  to the telephone conversation.

It sounds like Fugue wants to be the new Vice (http://www.viceland.com/global/htdocs/about.php).  But at least Vice is free.

Except for the part where Vice is funny/rad and Fugue seems like it's gonna be not funny/suck.
