@achewood Is eaten food technically rotting inside you? It's pretty warm in there. Technically, we all not only live in, but *are* "the danger zone."

but who would really wear that?

I've ordered it, and plan on wearing it.

I don't wear the "Fuck You, You're Irish" in William of Orange, which seemed like a good idea at the time, but...

What an ignoramus. My own birthday thread at TOUAMB and I don't even notice it until over 120 days later when I vanity Google my intarweb handle. :(

Thanks ever so, Paul. I got the moustache wax you recommended and have been receiving plaudits and derision in almost equal measure ever since. The left side still has a tendency to droop, sadly. How's yours?

Don't forget "Oxonians" (A native or inhabitant of Oxford).

My personal favourite isn't English though: Monégasque for someone from Monaco, anybody?

Thanks Paul. That shit is insane! :o

Seems like Amazon UK sell it through a third party, just need to decide whether to go with 'neutral' or 'chestnut' for my CUNT blond (read: ginger) whiskers.

And The Thieves reminded me more of Deep Purple and early-Status Quo psych-rock than Radiohead, but it's good stuff. It's true about Oxford (along with Manchester, Glasgow and pretty much all of Northern Ireland) producing musical talent way out of proportion with population.

Can I just go OT and ask Paul what wax/product (if any) he uses on his 'tache - or do they just grow like that? ???

I'm growing mine at the moment and have one that goes up and one that goes down. So not a good look.

Plus, AC/DC is quite frankly more fun.

Well, this is it. If Alex Kapranos sang about having big balls, sinking the pink and putting his love into Eleanor Friedberger (who, judging by my quick Google search is a kind of an indie-rock Frances McDormand) then they'd be a different proposition altogether.

As for Sabbath, sacrilege I know but the two-disc retrospective is plenty enough for me. Two Scottish post-rock covers of songs you didn't like in their original incarnation - Arab Strap's take on 'Changes' and Mogwai's of 'Sweet Leaf' - are well worth checking out. On the former in particular Aidan Moffat's vocal delivery strips away any trace of saccharine.

The difference between Franz Ferdinand and AC/DC is that AC/DC's riffs never seems to get stale.

Ding! Which is why I have about 10 hours of AC/DC in my collection, and only 45 minutes of Franzizzle Ferdinizzle.

And I'm totally not buying there only being a gradual change in the music of say, The Beatles or The Beach Boys, that's total hossshit. The difference between Yesterday and Helter Skelter is not gradual, it is radical. The difference between singing about surfing over Chuck Berry riffs and making music that was at the vanguard of American psychedelia at the time is not gradual. I get the point you're trying to make, but those aren't good examples.

There is a lot on The Darkness' second album that sounds like the first, they were just unafraid to experiment with different instrumentation, which is how you develop as an artist. Like when Pete Townshend programmed Meher Baba and Terry Riley's vital statistics into an ARP synthesizer to create Baba O'Riley. Although of course there's no difference between that and, say, Substitute.

too much of a Spinal Tap-ism

You'd be surprised by how many people just don't get that it is a joke though. They're all "but how can you have a one-way ticket and come back?"

Anyway, the record is amazing, just different from the first. I like that more than what, for instance, Franz Ferdinand did which is just make the same album all over again, exactly the same. Boooring.

Artists whose second albums did not suck:

Dexys Midnight Runners - Too-Rye-Ay
Kevin Rowland - My Beauty
The Darkness - One Way Ticket To Hell ...And Back
Kenickie -  Get In
Mogwai - Come On Die Young

In the UK very few people know of Calvin and Hobbes so these stickers are not prevalent.

They're becoming more common, particularly in the football domain. Gillingham fans can buy a Calvin pissing on a Millwall shirt, and vice versa.

Apologies if this is a pearoast, but it seems that Lyle and Ray's Taco Shop porn wasn't as far-fetched as it might have seemed:

* Why is there a giant picture of what appears to be Ralph Macchio in Ray's bathroom?

It's a Patrick Nagel, or an Onstad does Nagel. Think "Rio" by Duran Duran. A key signifier of the '80s. Pat Bateman probably has one on his wall.

Oh, hi. Long time reader first time poster, love the show.
