Wow. What a beautiful mix of humour and character development. Which is I guess the trademark of the GOF strips. For some reason, Ray's sad-drunkenness gets me every time. Best alt-text, too.

I think this arc is getting Onstad to be more adventurous (read: violent) with his artwork. I don't think a couple of months ago we would've seen a retired band teacher with his blood splattered all over the wall. This is by no means a bad thing.

And... "he" is dignity?

Your speaking in riddles just cost you your few Dr. Peppers, dude.

The jough giveth, and the jough taketh away.

No, we are speaking of far more grave matters. Matters of dignity. A dignity that eludes you.

Marimba Ponies, huh?

That reminds me of one of my favorite local artists, Laura Barrett, a master kalimbaist.. Kalimbonist.. Kalimba player.

I just haven't watched it. I mean, I'm just not really interested.

Douglas Adams wrote some really amazing, bizarre plots, but his real strength was as a wordsmith. You can't film ships that hang in the sky in much the same way that bricks don't. It just won't happen. Well, not without constant narration. The problem lies in the difference between mediums, I guess.

The butchering of the plot and splicing of dialogue is just insult to injury.

Dude, your first post wasn't basically like treasure, but your avatar triangulated in my mind with the face-ripping panel, and the conclusion is: Ray's into Suehiro Maruo.

PSA: The internet is totally the weirdest shit.

Well, the cliche usually applies for major label artists, who go with the gross major label approach of writing and recording.

Pavement's second album may have been their best, out of a solid discography.
Tin Hat Trio's second album is amaaaazing.
Eric's Trip's second album was totally amazing.
John Fahey's second album was no slouch.
Os Mutantes' second album was great.
The Boredoms' second album was insane.

And so on.

You can't have any more dignity. Nothing you do will bring him back now. Not even carving Beef's face into Mount Rushmore.

I'm a big fan of Red Medicine and Repeater, myself.

Apparently when Fugazi started, Minor Threat fans asked Ian Mackaye what that reggae shit he was playing was.

A chalk line?

A chalk line around the corpse of dignity?

Or maybe they are entirely different people.

So then, where did original Ray go?

I guess that Roast Beef will take down CloneRay, and take off his hat, only to reveal a lime. A lime that splits open. A shuriken shoots out.

oh shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

There's something I don't think has been addressed fully which I feel is really important, so here goes.

This is Ray's first real test, guys. He's stumbled through life, at least over the course of the script, with few real troubles. Sure, bizarre things happen to him, but he just moves with them, and often benefits from them. The devil just happened to call him with that piano. He just happened to stumble across that daguerrotype, with no knowledge of what it was. Sometimes he's had hard times - he has been to hell - but it's always been fairly easy for him to navigate back to normalcy. I mean, that may have been the first time he was just  cold beaten in the face.

But now it's been revealed to him that he's Son of Rodney, next incarnation of the legendary fighter. What in the goddamn hell does a feline even do with that? Well, I think Ray senses an obligation to live up to his heritage, to finally put himself in a real life-or-death situation. And oh man, has he ever.

And, well, being in an environment like that with no preparation, with a legacy that massive behind you, after a life lead like Ray's, forced to lead (prepared, possibly really brutal) men in the guise of someone you really aren't?

Strange things will happen to a dude, is all I'm sayin'.
