Achewood / Re: May 14, 2007 - The leg talks out of the bone
« on: May 15, 2007, 07:44:11 pm »I took it to be a Mod Band that Onstad had invented.Yeah I get that. I meant the concept that the band would be named after... I'm just being a geek.
It's prolly just something Onstad likes the sound of.
"Troubles" is very RB stylistically. Not the mood of the song, or the theme of the album - just the introspective, silly, tangential randomness of it

I love the Point, I haven't seen the movie but the record is awesome. I hope Onstad is playing it to the small one.
It is kind of trippy though, especially "Think About Your Troubles."
"Sit beside the breakfast table, think about your troubles.
Pour yourself a cup of tea, and think about the bubbles.
You can take your teardrops and drop 'em in a teacup
Take them down to the riverside and throw them over the side
To be swept up by a current, then taken to the ocean
To be eaten by some giraffees, who were eaten by some giraffees
And swallowed by a whale who grew so old
He decompooo-osed, doo, doo, doo
He died and left his body to the bottom of the ocean
Now everybody knows that when a body decomposes
The basic elements are given back to the ocean
And the sea does what it oughta and soon there's salty water
(Not too good for drinking)
'Cause it tastes just like a teardrop so they run it through a filter
And it comes out from a faucet, and it pours into a teapot
Which is just about to bubble, now think about your troubles, now...

I wonder what the Oblio Correction might be?

It came out with "Greenbelt Guardians" for my paternal grandfather, which is under K: RURAL ISOLATION.
"Greenbelt Guardians includes a large numbers of rural communities in areas of outstanding natural beauty.... They are likely to be members of the National Trust and the Women’s Institute and to be active in their local parish church.... Kitchens have Agas.... due to the absence of mains gas supplies... Rural sports have many devotees – these are areas where children in wealthier families may own a pony and where sailing, giraffeing and shooting are popular pastimes....
Swings and roundabouts on village greens cater for a cohort that is largely absent – most children have reached secondary school age and will leave home permanently to live in towns once they reach the age of employment."
For my paternal grandmother it's E: Urban Intelligence: Counter Cultural Mix which only really tells me she was an Irish expat. Um, you think?
In my futile search for Lee (the Chinese name, not the English one), I was amused to find that LEET is an actual name.
So, in my heritage I have farm workers trapped by acres of rolling countryside, where now only old people can/want to stay. This is in addition to itchy-footed Irish, and even more itchy-footed Guangdong Chinese who've moved to England via Malaysia. Could've told you that myself...

Achewood / Re: 26th of January, 2006 - "tainted" shrimp "taco" with "ethnomedical" manioc f
« on: January 27, 2007, 08:49:04 am »In a race towards the bottom, I'll claim that I can make a quesadilla from pre-shredded cheese and a tortilla in the same amount of time, but with considerably less chance of salmonella poisoning
My timeframe was inspired by a cookery show we have over here (Saturday Kitchen) where the guest chefs compete to make an omelette in less than a minute. I spose we don't get a follow-up on posioning-related suffering that may ensue

I see that Raymond Blanc recently came last for taking a black truffle out of his pocket and adding fresh gratings to his dish. What a man.

Has Onstad been watching Heston Blumenthal's BBC show? These are some selected highlights of his recipe for black forest gateau - I would post it all but it is three pages long:
I love how the food mixer is optional, but the vacuum cleaner is not
I think the concept of the Fat Duck restaurant is pretty cool, but for the fact that it clearly takes them three weeks to make any one dish. I would be lying if I said that I was enough of a gastronome that only food from said restaurant could satisfy my cravings - I could make an omelette in 30 seconds that would quell my hunger pangs right now. I'd feel guilty to a) spend so much money on and then b) eat such finely crafted food.
Quote
Special equipment 21.5cm x 31.5cm brownie tin(s), food mixer (optional), oven thermometer, 2.6-litre hard plastic container with lid (through which you have bored a small hole, using a corkscrew), microwave (if you have one), whipping-cream canister and charges (from www.creamsupplies.co.uk), vacuum-seal storage bag with one-way valve, vacuum cleaner, digital probe, 9cm x 19cm x 5cm-deep baking tin(s), piping bag, melon- baller, large cardboard box, paint gun.AERATED CHOCOLATE LAYER
....
5 Shake the canister, then squirt the chocolate onto the base of the 2.6-litre plastic container. Put on the lid, then place the container in the vacuum storage bag. Position the storage bags valve over the hole in the containers lid. Switch on the vacuum cleaner and place the hose on the valve to suck the air out of the bag. The chocolate should rise and be riddled with small bubbles. As soon as it does so, remove the vacuum and close the valve as quickly as possible. To set the chocolate, place the box still in the vacuum bag in the fridge until required.CHOCOLATE MOUSSE
...
8 Fill the base of the paint gun with the melted chocolate mixture and attach the nozzle. To avoid redecorating the kitchen in chocolate brown, set the large cardboard box on its side (which effectively provides a protective roof and walls to work in). Remove the gateau from the freezer. Carefully lift it out of the loaf tin and onto a plate. Remove the clingfilm and place the gateau in the cardboard box. Spray the gateau with the chocolate, turning carefully as you go. Return it to the freezer until 20 minutes before serving.
9 Use a skewer to bore a small hole 23in into the centre of the bottom of each indentation, down towards the cherry below. Agitate the skewer a little to increase the holes diameter. Pour in cherry syrup until it reaches the top of the bore-hole (but doesnt spill out into the indentation itself). Place a sour cherry, stalk end up, in each indentation, and sit a dried vanilla pod in each cherry, to make a decorative stalk. For the full effect, fill an atomiser with kirsch and squirt it round the room just before serving the gateau it will magically bring a little of the Black Forest to the dinner table.

That's just tryhard. If you can listen to the song without cracking up at that particular lyric, it's a sure sign that you don't have a soul.
Is it wrong that I'm rather fond of Nice Pete? I'm by no means a serial-killer obsessive, but Cropes is one lovable sociopath.

You really need to listen to that Sunn0))) song, because the most hilarious part of the lyrics is:
"Look to the Saxon chasing Viking
Look to the Norman chasing Saxon
Look to the German chasing German
German German German German..."
