@achewood Would Star Trek have had the same gravitas if Spock had been named Vince?

Going to Miami tomorrow and I'm pretty frickin' excited. Going to be one of those trips where I have to keep myself from eating five meals a day.

Today I did one of my favorite tasks of the year: buying a short-term giraffeing license in advance of vacation.

Did they have color back then? Or was everything in black & white like you see in old TV clips?

My youngest draws approximately 75 hosss per day, and as a result has gotten pretty good at it. Only kid in 6th grade at her school to have TWO pieces selected for the pyramid art show... and they were both of hosss.

Last Sunday we were at the barn and I managed to boop 7 of the 8 hoss noses there. Moe refused to come over when I called him, and I didn't bother going to get treetz to get his attention. (I can finally name them all from memory: Charm, Gracie, Noelle, Boston, Casey, Bailey, Huey, and Moe. The last four are a herd group and they remind me of the Pac Man ghosts.)

Gotta take a mulligan on this one. Not familiar with either one to make a judgement. What is your assessment?

I was a huge fan of the first couple of BAD albums, and I'd have to vote for them on that alone. The use of sampling in a rock context (which I believe was mostly Don Letts' doing, not Mick's) was kind of revolutionary and still relatively rare. Now, the subsequent albums mostly didn't live up to that (especially "F-Punk," which, holy shit, what's up with the singing on that), but yeah those first two are all-time for me.

I would have said Son Volt right after the break-up, but it's Wilco now--they've done far more to change over time and do more interesting things.

Big Audio Dynamite or Joe Strummer & the Mescaleros?

My cooking highlight of the weekend was grilled Indian-type bread. I was making yogurt-marinated chicken kebabs, and the cookbook recommended these "puff pastry" breads to go with them. I was like "I have time today, WTFN?" I think I liked them better than the chicken.
Pro tip: It is remarkable how much better your breads will rise when you buy fresh yeast, instead of stuff that expired six years ago.

Today I'm gonna sit here and wait to hear from my friend who has Caps season tickets.
Finals game 3 is at home Saturday... I'm free Saturday night... just sayin'.

I also got my smoke on this weekend. https://www.instagram.com/p/Bi_9Zvyl5PE/

The pig was a tad disappointing. My smoking rig runs a little too hot. It was cooked through, but would have benefited from a lower temperature and another hour or two. Good smoke flavor, but it didn't have that rip-it-up-with-two-forks consistency you want.

The wings, on the other hand, may become a staple. I thawed them in the bag, dumped a bunch of spice rub right in there (Rudy's Rub from San Antonio) and flopped it around. Smoked for about 90 minutes, no turning or moving (so they can be done on one set of coals). I offered a variety of sauces, but most of our guests ate them as-is.
