Arts & Entertainment / RIP Johnny Cash and John Ritter
« on: September 12, 2003, 11:58:31 pm »
I'm not much of a fan of John Ritter.  It's sad that he has died so young, but really I don't give a fuck.  Johnny Cash on the other hand is tough to hear.  We've known it was coming for a while, but still, damn that sucks.  But, he's together again with June in Heaven, if you beleve that sort of thing.

I saw one of those yesterday and I was so shocked that I asked a total stranger (another shopper) if it was real.  They didn't know either.

Is this thing real JL?

We're all embarrased now because we were talking about such nasty stuff.

PS- I have no personal experience with any of the things mentioned in this thread.

PPS- Ok, that's not exactly true, I did once see (hear, whatever) a pussy fart, er queef.

People & Places / Anyone from Philly up in this beotch?
« on: September 06, 2003, 07:12:06 am »
I was measuring distance by Texas standard.  I was actually much closer to Philly than 300 miles while driving to Upstate NY.  I drove through the northwest corner of the state.  I was only in PA for about an hour, turnpike the whole way.

~Paul

Edit:  I was actually closer to 400 miles from Philadelphia.  I looked at a map.

I have that Wilco album but it has never spoken to me.

Give it another try.  That one took a while to sink in.  It kind of snuck up on me and sucker punched me.  Maybe it was just the mood I was in at the time.  It's pretty dark actually.  After I got into it, it spent about two months in heavy rotation sharing time in my changer with Sea Change and Bryter Layter.

MILES DAVIS

But which ones?

Kind of Blue? Sketches of Spain? On the Corner? Pangaea?

Bitches Brew for one.  At Newport 1958 for another.  And The Essential Miles Davis.  All purchased this past Wednesday.  The last one is a career retrospective that covers 41 years or music.

These were all purchased based on the awesomeness of Kind of Blue which I discovered last year and finally decided I had to hear more.

A few comments.  Bitches Brew is off the chain.  It's hard to comprehend it's so frentic and compelling I predict i'll be listening to this the rest of my life.  Newport 1958 is on fire.  It's the same group that recorded Kind of Blue and they ain't holding back nothing here.  The retrospective prooves that Miles was killer from day one until the day he died.  Oh yeah, Coltraine is  massive as well.

Never heard of Queef before, down here it's always just been refered to as a pussy fart.  Queef sounds much nicer.

Arts & Entertainment / 9/3/03 It just hit me
« on: September 04, 2003, 03:33:14 am »
It just hit me while reading todays bleat why Lileks has taken such a turn for the right wing since 9/11.  It's because of the buildings.  He loves tall buildings and he can't forgive the terrorist for bringing down those great buildings and damaging the skyline of New York.  He'd surely disagree, but I think there is something psychological going on here.  He needs to see an analyst.

Arts & Entertainment / Arrrgh!!!
« on: September 04, 2003, 03:20:24 am »
I was having dinner in IHOP Sunday night and I was wearing a bandanna because I had been working.  When I arose to leave I heard a child sitting at a table nearby, who I overheard speak to the other 4 young children he was sitting with saying "The Pirate is leaving."  I guess it was the combination of the bandanna and the curly moustache.  I just gave him a really stern look and growled out Arrrrgh!!!

I don't normally wear a bandanna to work, but I've been wearing that bandanna ever since.

Arrrrgh.  The next person that gives me any stick i'll tie 'em to the yard arm and give 'em 50 lashes with a cat o nine tails I will.  Do I make myself clear you bunch of scurvy dogs.  Animals all of you.  Now get back to work swabbin' those decks.  Ther'll be no supper 'til this ship is sparkling.  I'll be in my stateroom planning my next move.  First mate, bring me one of those winches we kidnapped last night from Crete.  The tall one with the long curly hair and the torn dress.  Arrrrgh.

Of course at work, i'm the scurvy dog most likely to be on the recieving end of the lash, but It plays really nice in my mind.  If I were the pirate in charge of the department I would be whippin' those pups daily.  Except for the two women of course.  I'd chain them to my desk and force them to do unspeakable acts.
