See, this is why I'm going to have to marry a fellow dork. If we set up a united front of They Might Be Giants in the home, our kids are either going to have to comply or revolt in a really disgusting, scary, Snoop-Dogg-related way that I'll at least be able to laugh off.
And then once you've got on who's got great taste, if you have another kid 6 years later, they're likely to inherit the others taste. If they get on at all that is.

Aha! see, I'm an only child; I had no one to latch onto since my parents aren't really into that great of music (IMO) and neither were my friends at the time beyond one friend where, when she'd play it, I'd pretend I didn't at all like due to my crushing boy rap phase; it would've killed my cover ..hah. once that boy moved away and that friend just left (cause she turned into a weird druggie snob), I quickly got into all that music I pretended to dislike and all was well ...sort've :)
The guy I like now talks about how a lot of the "old" music I'm just now discovering, he liked when younger due to older siblings and better friends. that explains it all :D
..not that I entirely regret the silly phases cause then I wouldn't have a thing to say except "yep, I liked good music always." now at least I can talk about the insanity ..I won't even get into the country phase I encountered before the rap one ..that was quite a jump!
At least there's a chance that if there are kids in my future (I still hope not), they might get out of the new pop hit or whatever they encounter that is really bad since I did ..there's always hope!
