Evil Bert's influence must be spreading.

I don't know that Elmo is evil in the same way Bert is though, it's more of a scarily innocent thing. You'd walk in, Elmo would be standing over what's left of the boy's body, his fur too red, and he'd just look up with questioning eyes and ask why James didn't want to play anymore.

I always thought that Elmo really should talk like the Bizarro Superman, y'know.

"Me am not hating you, Superman!" That sorta thing.

I dunno, all the Sesame Street characters up to that point had still felt like the personal organic creations of that lovable dope-smoking poon-hound visionary Jim Henson and... maybe I'm getting old here... but Elmo seems like he was created by a marketing firm.

Boo to Elmo.

Elmo wouldn't be so bad if he was a minor part of the ensemble cast... but instead, someone in a suit realized they could sell a bajillion things with that fuck*ng red face on it, and the juggernaut was born.

Meanwhile, in a dark closet in the sub-basement of the Children's Television Workshop, the misshapen Barkley costume sits lumped in a corner, covered in dust everywhere except where the tears fall.
