Workplace peculiarities

A)
Our pickup trucks up here have vehicle data recorders, so they can make sure we are not speeding or abruptly braking or driving with our headlights or seatbelts off. They also have GPS installed. Because they continually draw a charge, we have to leave our trucks plugged in year-round or the battery will die.

B)
I work with a guy who is up here for two weeks, and then on call for one of his weeks off. He's currently here at work but has to go in early to work at a different Alaskan location, and his alternate has to come to work early because he is on his not-on-call week off, so they can't send him on the job (but they can send him back to regular work).

C)
We have to wear bright yellow reflective vests to make sure no one drives over us, although when it's dark out there is snow on the ground and our dark coveralls stand out, and when it's light out . . . well, it's light out.
