America Watches World Cup

Far as I can find out, that Rangers game started at 8:10(ET) and you say saturday night.  You know the USA-England (2:30et)game had been over for almost 4 hours by the time that baseball game started right?  It was night in South Africa, not Texas.

Watching the Chile - Honduras match and every once in a while, during an exciting or tense moment, one of the announcers will say something like "...and vuvuzelas blaring!" like the crowd is actually reacting to the play with those dang horns. I've heard that broadcasters are trying to filter the sound so maybe there is some variation we at home can't hear, but it still sounds like a swarm of killer bees. Which could be amazing if USA fans were able to chant "USA ain't nothing to fuck with" loud enough to at least compete with that sound. That would be threatening.

Chile looked fuck*ng brilliant, if only they could finish. Tactically one of the most interesting teams in the tournament. 3-3-1-3   :D

Oh god I am looking forward to Spain

Oh.  Well I only have a passing interest anyway.  I saw a posting on Facebook advertising a watching party at a bar.  I thought the scheduled start time was 8:30 pm local time.  Maybe the bar was showing a rebroadcast or something?

How 'bout now?

I'm grinning like a loon, well done Switzerland

Alonso's shot was absolutely INSANE but Spain did very little. Fair play to the Swiss

Will make the rest of Spain's games very interesting as well

FUERZA CHILE.

my grandparents still live there, and I have been there twice, so as far as I'm concerned they're MY TEAM.

YEAHH. I SHOULD HAVE WATCHED THAT GAME. DAMNIT.

They were proper good mate.

Do many of you US lot support the national team or do you look towards your ancestry? Seems to be a theme with quite a few US soccer fans I know

I don't actually really follow sports. If I were home right now, I would be watching the games with my Grandfather probably, and he is Chilean. I guess I don't really get to pick a favorite team since I am not watching.

Only because the US team is such as a bag of rocks, covered in dried saliva. Give us a team with a chance of being 0.001% relevant in the sport and that might shift.

Remember, we're an immigrant nation. That makes it easy to find ancestors who were poor as owl dung and were probably good at a game as simple as something round and a patch of dirt and feet.

don't get me wrong, I am OK with soccer/football. Once I started viewing it as an unending tapestry of potential athletic artistry mixed with on-the-fly tactics it got cool in my head.

I like you a lot.

US are growing steadily more relevant in football, wouldn't be surprised to see you do well in this World Cup

Well, if you need to speak to him about it, make sure you memorise these 3 things

1. Alexis Sanchez is the greatest young player in the world
2. Bielsa is alright for an Argentinian
3. 3-3-1-3 will take over the world inspired by Chile

And you'll be fine

I support the USA and cheer for them over any team they play. But there are other teams I also support, and a lot of that has to do with my ancestry, and comes in handy when USA get knocked out.
