The only funny thing about these strips to me is how much the presence of Ray's mom changes everyone.

Yeah, they sure get polite, don't they?

As for girls liking guys who eat cheese... well, though I'm lactose intolerant, I seem to have liked guys who eat cheese for the most part... I guess it's true at least in my perspective though I doubt I'd frown on a vegan guy... unless they were Pat!

I like this strip for Mrs Smuckles' immediate request that Beef should buy a sandwich, as if the main thing she remembers about him from his childhood was giving this poor white-trash kid handouts to buy food, especially with Beef's insistence that he "will pay her back someday".

Dogg on a Hogg?

Anyway, I like how Mr. Roast Beef not only gets polite but also reverts to childhood him.  He basically repeat just such as what Mrs. Smuckles says, and the "I hope that I find out someday" is an immediate implication of the innocent non-dating years which he's obviously not in; only she didn't really ask.

Whereas Ray is smooove to his mom, Beef pulls off the perfect neurotic Catholic schoolboy routine and tries to paint halos all over himself.  I do the exact same things with my friend's moms from childhood without realizing it most of the time.

As a man who, until a few years ago, did not eat most forms of cheese (excepting melted, mild cheeses, see: pizza), I can testify that girls do not like a man who doesn't eat cheese.  Then I started eating cheese, and BANG!, now I'm waist deep in cheese-loving tail.

I like how Beef implies that it is his decision whether or not cheese becomes weight, so he'll do his best to have it do that.

What's the secret?  Do you have to eat cheese in a certain alluring fashion?  Or is it more of a pheromonal response to a cheese-eatin' man, something that tells The Ladies that a particular dude has achieved mastery over milk curdled with rennet and acidification?

I'd also like to know the secret.

These strips are golden. Thank our lucky stars for the ChatSack arc.

Maybe the thing with cheese is that it is basically a really gross food if you think about it, so you are just being a wuss if you don't eat cheese. And girls do not like wusses? Or maybe it is that if you do not eat cheese that you are dangerously close to crossing the border between Man and Vegan, and God help you if you try to get a lady with the complexion of a vegan.

Today's strip is so funny; I love it and I love today.

Great stuff.  Who among us hasn't turned into Eddie Haskell when dealing with a friend's mom?

So when Beef first said Stellas I thought me meant beer but then he said crunchy so I'm confused.

Maybe he can help ensure cheese->weight conversion but eating then sitting down and remaining motionless for as long as possible. Maybe take a nap.

I was going to ask whether y'all think crispy stellas is a Beefism for ice-cold Amstel. That is my hypothesis.

Males eating cheese always makes me think of this The Pursuit of Happiness Song:

Quote
I’m An Adult Now:
Well, I don't hate my parents / I don't get drunk just to spite them / I've got my own reasons to drink now / Think I'll call my Dad up and invite him / I can sleep in till noon anytime I want / Though there's not many days that I do / Gotta get up and take on that world / When you're an adult it's no cliche, it's the truth /

'Cause I'm an adult now / I'm an adult now / I've got the problems of an adult / On my head and on my shoulders / I'm an adult now /

I can't even look at young girls anymore / People will think I'm some kind of pervert / Adult sex is either boring or dirty / Young people they can get away with murder / I don't write songs about girls anymore / I have to write songs about women / No more boy meets girl, boy loses girl / More like man tries to figure out what the hell went wrong /

I'm an adult now / I'm an adult now / I've got the problems of an adult on my head, my libido / I'm an adult now /

I can't take any more illicit drugs / I can't afford any artificial joy / I'd sure look like a fool dead in a ditch somewhere / With a mind full of chemicals, like some cheese-eating high school boy

'Cause I'm an adult now / I'm an adult now / I've got the problems of an adult / On my head and on my shoulders / I'm an adult now /

Sometimes my head hurts and sometimes my stomach hurts / And I guess it won't be long / Till I'm sitting in a room with a bunch of people whose necks and backs are aching / Whose sight and hearing's fading / Who just can't seem to get it up / Speaking of hearing, I can't take too much loud music / I mean I like to play it, but I sure don't like the racket / Noise, but I can't hear anything / Just guitars screaming, screaming, screaming / Some guy screaming in a leather jacket /

'Cause I'm an adult now / I'm an adult now / I've got the problems of an adult / On my head and on my shoulders / I'm an adult now /

(repeat)
Back in the 90's when this song was a hit in Canada, I saw TPOH in concert, and also used the term "cheese-eating high school boy" as a common insult, so really, I'm of the opposite way of thinking about this.

Answer is YES.

Yeah, they're pretty delicious, but really hard to find most places.  I just discovered that one of my favorite bars here just got it on tap, so I'm quite pleased - before this, I had to scrounge a few liquor stores looking for year-old six-packs, which was no good for anyone.

Yeah, it's kinda Heineken-esque, all hoppy and whatnot, with some good bitterness, but a little more mellow.  Good stuff.

Yes. I love the archetypal reversion to youthful behaviors upon contact with a friend's mom, and I love the further development of Mrs. Smuckles as she relates to the rest of Ray's little friends. Beef's insistence that he will try to keep it on as weight (my best guess for this is that it involves eating the cheese sandwich and taking a nap, yeah) is also precious. Who knew the ChatSack storyline would end up this way?

I don't drink beer but my parents have about a half-dozen Stella Artois glasses from a bar that had it on tap and you got to take the glass home (1 per person per visit).

I'm pretty sure we've seen Stella references before, and I've always guessed it was in referene to Artois.  Maybe Beef's descriptors apply to the alleged "crisp, clean and fresh" characterisitcs of said pils.

I think it smells like a sweaty shoe and tastes like the foot that made the shoe sweaty.  If you're going to stack up some cold beer for a pool party, I would not choose Stella.

It's also omnipresent in NYC.  It seems like every bar has it on tap and the sloppy-haired douchebag hipsters can't fall over themselves fast enough to get one.

Too bad the crunchy Stellas are probably beer. Stella-Doras are the most deeeeeelicious things on Earth. (Pretty effective for keeping on as weight, too.)

I know nothing of this Stella.  (STELLAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA)

But I do love how Beef goes back to good boy mode, the way he used to do with Gramma K.  But really, don't your childhood friends' parents always retain more of their authority?  I just tried to imagine calling my best friend's parents by their first names, and I'm completely unable to do it, even though I am almost as old as they were when I first met them.

And a woman who would bring Coke and Pepsi to little league would so hand out five dollars for a sandwich.  She'd also probably give a $25 check for Christmas.

what is interesting to me, is why?  does Beef not mention Molly simply because he is acting like a child?  I think that Beef knows Mrs. Smuckles will correct you even for standing improperly.  Beef does not want to offend her.  So does he believe that contradicting her is rude, or does he believe that his having a girlfriend and growing up is offensive to Mrs. Smuckles in itself?  is Beef ashamed to be in a relationship - too ashamed to admit it to Ray's mom?

also, hell yes Milk and Cheese, misterqueue.  gin and sugar 4 life (mimes are more useless than parsley)

hmm.
this is funny, because I have to eat more around my friend's moms. They always seem to think that I'm malnourished... they constantly offer me food.
actually, I probably am malnourished. The worst was this one time (in reality: a week ago. exactly a week.) that I started trying to explain to this guy's mom that I couldn't eat dinner, because I had just drank (drunk?) too much soda. And I was trying to say it without explaining that I felt sick, because I didn't want to seem rude. And I think she thinks I wasn't eating because I have some kind of eating problem. Mostly based on the fact that her son constantly accuses me of being anorexic. Now, yesterday, my mom informed me that "If lose weight when you go to college, you'll have to come right back home", as if I'm just waiting to get out of her sight to skip meals, since I secretly want to not eat food.

ANyway, what I'm trying to say is that I have akward parent-problems like food. I am like The Beef in this respect!

From that back 3/4 view, I agree with Mrs. Smuckles.  Look at Beef's arms and shoulders, he is too thin.  Ray should be feeding him well.

Stella is the beer of Belgium, and since my mom was adopted by Belgian immigrants and lived in Belgium for a little while, and since Belgium is the only country outside North America that I've spent any time in, I know Stella.  Here in Canada Stella is quite popular, and you can get it at most places.  You can also go to the liquor mart and buy it in cans, bottles, or keg form.  I don't find Stella to be all that foreign tasting, but then I've had beers imported from France where there's a thick sediment on the bottom and the beer itself has in interesting, deep, smoky flavour.  I had a special relationship with a thick, pungent beer of such a description, but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called.  It was from France and had a label with an animal on it - either a bull or a dog if anyone can help me.  We had a fourth act club in a play I was in, where the entire cast, except for 3 people, did not appear in the fourth (and final act) of the play, so we would sit in the boys' dressing room and consume as much alcohol as possible, then stumble out drunk for our bows.   Good times.  And someone had given the cast a case of this beer as a gift, and no one else liked it, and so I enjoyed and imbibed.

People who eat cheese are more apt to enjoy life and that is attractive.

Also, my stepdaughter has very irregular eating patterns and is prone to forgetting meals. There are reasons for parental nagging, people.

jorgefabregas, your stepdaughter is similar to me. People accuse me of being "anorexic" or some crap, but no-- I just eat whenever I get hungry. And I forget.

Really, I think this is nature's way of killing us. I am of the firm belief that every time I eat a meal when I am supposed to, it is a big f-you to nature.

I also have problems with eating.  it's mostly due to a strange schedule, so by the time I get up, I eat a snack, dinner, another snack then there are hours eating nothing 'cause I feel I shouldn't eat past 2am.  my stomach gets weird if I eat anything intense after that at least; I can have like one chocolate or a few pringles, but that's hardly eating.

I have tried working on changing my schedule, but then I was eating breakfast, lunch then falling asleep through dinner into 4am :|

Nature is trying to kill me by making me fall asleep at odd hours :D

And here I thought I was the only one. I've gone days with only one meal each day. It sucks! But with my classes and the poor cafeteria schedule plus my laziness to leave campus I miss meals all the time! I eat a lot when I do eat though so I guess I make up for it? Probably not well enough though. Here is it 10:35 and I still haven't eaten breakfast. This time it's laziness and the board doing it to me. If I had milk and cereal in my dorm room I would so be eating right now, but alas I do not and the cafeteria closes breakfast at 10:30 so I fucked my self this morning. And I'm not the kind of guy that can afford to skip meals, I'm a skinny mother fucker. I won't get into my weight because people don't want to know that, some find it disturbing.
